  • I swear, one of them is my mom!

  • Of course it was not a hit for them. Back in those good old racist days black folks would record a song, then the recording companies would get white singers to re-record the songs and the songs became hits. It sucks. but that was the way it was for black singers back then. This is the best version, in fact, the entire album is off the chain.

  • I have this on vinyl whoop whoop

  • Slow piece, ladies choice, at rock hops was last song of the nite, in west side sa, ah life was good.

  • Many Thanks For The Post ♥♥♫♫♪♪

  • This version they used in the movie House.

  • I remember hearing this a little older than when it came out, but let's face it thank goodness by that time we all were able to hear the songs that came out just a bit before we really had any interest in music. Where I grew up in Virginia, everyone listened to "Night Train." I have no doubt that would have been where I would have heard this. Thanks for this nostalgic post.

  • @gva0917 Are you talking about Bob 'Night Train" Terry??

  • @punanilicker1409 Quite honestly, I only knew the station as simply "Night Train." As I mentioned in the comment, this was a station here in Virginia. If Bob Terry was affiliated with "Night Train;" it was not a anything that I remember or was aware of. To me it was simply "Night Train." Trust this at least sheds a little light on it. Again, it was in Virginia. :)

  • Soooo nice....

  • pure raw soul music

  • Chooowwwww!!!!!

  • I loved the gentle version of this song by the Mamas and the Papas. Didn't know the Shirells sang it. I really like the way they sang this.

  • Released in 1959, but never a major hit until 1961. It just goes to show that some great records can turn into a hit the second time around. Great song.

  • I just downloaded this mp3 at audiogetnow..com

  • Beautiful song. Thanks for posting. :)

  • Much better recording, The music made this song good as well as the vocals. The lazy laid back sound especially from the guitar is poignant. The musicians did a good job. This recording sounds better than most of the remastered recordings which the vocals drown out the music.

  • A lot of the teen girl groups around Detroit would sing this song during 1959.

  • What a wonderful classic song :) Thank you for sharing all these memories !

  • You're welcome any time - thank you for listening to it.

  • @YCSMusic i saw the broadway show this year in NYC about the shirelles and it was brilliant, wonderful story and songs

  • @tealave13 Yes I would imagine it was a great show, shame they don't bring the show over here, thanks.

  • @YCSMusic This is the very best copy of this song on youtube! Thank You.

  • Many thanks Pete

  • The oldies are the best great post 5*****

  • Great Song!! It was a huge hit in our town in 1961. 5 Star Memories from this 5 Star Song!! Thank you so much for posting this!!

  • You're welcome!

It didn't see the light of day here, not even when re-issued in '61.

  • Love this version, Top up-load Steve, cheers mate.

  • Thanks Tone, a very early doowop version - nice!

  • Unbelievable, that this song failed the charts

  • It did chart when Mama's & Papa's released it, and also Bitty McLean.

  • Girl groups of that era are wonderful, we love them, and they usually can't be topped. (Even the Beatles couldn't top the Shirelles' "Baby It's You".) But Papa John Phillips made a masterpiece of this song.

Speaking of the Shirelles-Beatles connection, the girls' original version of "Boys" is really quite good, if you ever come across it.
