@TheSaltsinNZ I've noticed 'wanker' is a lot more offensive in the UK than in Australia and NZ - it'd be like saying 'cunt' on TV in NZ. You lot say 'taking the piss' on the news at ten - that would not be acceptable for the UK. It doesn't make the BBC pathetic. See Karen Stollznow's piece 'Whinger! Wowser! Wanker!' and you'll see what I mean. 'Wanking' or 'being a wanker' is obviously so prevalent in Kiwi culture you don't bat an eyelid. Oh, to be a Kiwi optician.

And I think you are possibly giving Kiwis too much credit when you refer to the word 'cunt'. I was once called a cunt whilst having a job interview here! And I got the job. Apparently putting the words 'you're a good' in front of it turns it into a compliment!!!

Although I can post this online, available 24 hours a day, including to young children and say it pisses me off and, even with the filter on, it still gets through. Try it - the failure to protect children from what they already know and don't need protecting. In fact, for me, as a child, "protecting" me by keeping swearing from me made it much more strong. It ensured that I was offended when I then heard the words, created as "swearwords", thus actually harmed me more.

I like how his alternative choice - "cretin" - was also found wrong. ("Again apologies".) Obviously, he doesn't do that anymore. In fact, the way he said "wanker" was very funny, so why apologise? Even then the broadcast failed to make clear to any children listening that it was unacceptable, so it commits the breach of the enforced standards anyway. Obviously, for one child to hear this and think it is acceptable to say "wanker" would be completely wrong.

Bono is just jealous because the new U2 album (two decent songs and the rest filler) cannot hold a candle to the Coldplay's latest release, which is loaded with top notch material. In fact, it has been nearly two decades since U2 released anything comparable to Viva.

Ahh, so now I finally hear the 'full' interview instead of just the bit where Bono says Chris Martin's a wanker. Clearly Bono is joking, listen to the whole thing properly and you will get that. I love both bands and am glad that I didn't lose respect for U2 because of a snippet I heard. I saw Coldplay 4 days ago (8 March) and for the record they were brilliant LIVE for all the unbelievers :P Thumbs up for both bands!! Chris Martin and Bono are both awesome, don't dis them.

I love Chris Martin for his beautiful manners. He's so funny and jokes always in his interviews, but doesn't insult anybody. He doesn't need to humiliate anybody to promote his songs. He's a great singer and his voice is just so wonderful.

Coldplay and particularly Chris Martin are offensive to other musicians and lovers of great music because of the fakeness and absoulete disregaurd for true art that they represent. Bono could easily say that Coldplay have ripped off U2 but instead he just states the obvious. The guy is a complete moron and a definite wanker. Listen to Chris Martin talk, read his interviews. He knows that he sucks and that he is not even in the same universe as U2 or Radiohead. He admits to ripping them off.

I wont say that it's alright to talk like that live on radio, it sounds like a cliche "commercial" for U2's newest album and its already seen and heard before. It's good for us to hear Bono talking honestly :) but it was just not funny or right to do that live on radio show. I also am not fan of Coldplay's music at all, i liked their first album Parachutes but they copy themselves the most of the time, they even admit that in interviews :). And "Viva La Vida" plagiarism was unbelievable...

thanks Bono..you told the truth..chris martin is a W****R....only reason coldplay are successful is bcos Eno and Lanios produced for them..plus he can't sing live.....so at the end of the day the difference between U2 and shitplay is that they actually sound amazing live..not amazing all the time, everyone has their off days.
