I was a mechanic in the 82d in an Air Defense unit back when they used to tow 20mm vulcans around. The Gamma Goat did have issues and were tough to work on in the field but when they were good they were very good. They could haul around a lot of weight. One thing I know is they actually drive and get better traction when they have a load.
Fording, however, was a scary joke, they would sink, and I saw one eat it on Cicily DZ, that was pretty interesting.

The only good memory of a gama goat for me is totally being shitfaced drunk after getting laid in one in Cold war West Germany ... other than that ... They are different, but if you value hearing in anyway, don't buy one!
Definitely cool though to go back to the 1980's though
