As a teen girl a few years ago, I fell in love with the early Genesis' music just in a minute. Extremely creative music and superb lyrics - these guys are all genious, how the hell could they wrote such songs at the age of 21-22? Just brilliant. Thank God I've found their music - it will always be with me.
If you feel like I do that Genesis belongs in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and you have a Facebook account, then I invite you to join a group I created called "Genesis Belongs In The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame".
I'm glad my father listened to Genesis throughout my life. He still does that, but now I really appreciate it. I prefer Genesis above almost all bands from nowadays.
Hi my most treasured possesion is a first cut copy of Twilight Alehouse, in the early 70s there was an old pub in Hanley that had this on the jukebox, every Saturday I would do my shopping at Tesco and then on my way home stop at the pub have a pint and listen to this track on the jukebox....saw it performed live too several times I was born at the best time possible for wonderful music and incredible bands!
Yes,I remember putting this on at my local drinking hole on their old juke box! There was a small hardcore group of genesis fans and I was only 17 - smitten forever!!!
Love this version! Incredibly original composition and sound. Genesis are completely unchallenged as the greatest innovators in rock music. Will music ever be so good again? I cannot see how.
Pure sheer brillance. Awesome performance by Peter and the lads. Even better than the studio one, indeed. This version is not from Paris Studios 1972. It was performed at "Top Gear" September 1972. Watcher Of The Skies and Get 'Em Out By Friday were also performed.
i am the utimate genesis freak and i can tell you that this was not from the bbc paris studios i have that gig and it does not have this track on it this particular track comes from one of the 3 sounds of the 70s gigs genesis did all 3 i have see i am the genesis master!!! ;-) 'just a drink to make me feel like a man again' great lyric
a very nice take of Twilight ale house! the BBC versions usually fantastic. bowies Starman gets a beautiful send up there. early Genesis w/ Gabriel is fANTASTIC. I remembering being constantly slagged off because I wasen't listening to Aerosmith!!!! just go home, leave me with my Syd LPs and Foxtrot

....and it should have a track on Foxtrot, Timetable won somehow.
vernixlanugo 5 months ago
it did not become A Hit Until 1973, When I Know What I Like (In Your Wardrobe) became a B-Side to That.
JHollowayNetwork 9 months ago
@JHollowayNetwork Actually, "IKWIL" was the hit, while this was the lowly, underrated B-side. Such a pity, too, because this is so full of win!

0:10 to 0:25 expesses the deep depression that the character is in needing the comfort of wine, IMO.

Need to listen to this a few more times but I still like the Belgium version.
Both versions magical though.
How we continue to listen to these timeless classics 40 years later and still sound great.

This song kicks ass more than any bs pop ballad that Phil Collins had as the "leader" of Genesis in the 80s.

This BBC verison is more badass, than the other "live" performance they did in Belgium in 1972.

I love the verse in this song but not the chorus.
Anyone else feel this way?
Genesis fans only
TheExeter 1 year ago
@TheExeter I love the whole song... the chorus is a great contrast... which is what Genesis was all about.....

This is one of there rare songs that is not found on any of there previous albums!! It is too bad they don't perform songs like this!!
jjdemarchi 1 year ago
@jjdemarchi. The song is on the Genesis '70-'75 box set; its on the last cd in the box set. It was the best 100 bucks I spent on ebay for the box set

Great
we love genesis

Believe quality like this was only a B-side to a single? Gabriel's Genesis B-sides would be the best work for most bands.

@KeithThePunk: I don't understand your comment at all. But I can tell you something - listening to this again is pure magic.

Was the date shown, the date of the Belgian TV show, when this superb song was also performed?
