I have 14 autographed Patrick Roy hockey cards from his rookie year to the vezina trophy to when he was on the sherbrooke canadiens...how much money am I looking at nowadays?...I use to know his son couple years back..well I got his dad to sign them all for me lol.. he's a really good dude!
hes a great goalie thats for sure, but iremember every time he came to detroit, especially in 2002 playoffs, we always chanted ROY and we didnt spell it pat wah, it was pat roy lol
1 thing that makes me made is that roy's son doseint play hockey enymore after he whent to court he neverd played again. What he said " I quit to fallow my music cerrer" BS!!!!!!!
gave me goosebumps watchin this im a bruins fan but in 2001 i was all about roy and the avalanche and of course bourque roy was the gratest goalie and thats a fact not oppinion... and i forgot the canadiens suck!!!! way to make him feel right at home when he had a bad game bruins will hoist the cup before the habs do either next year or the year after its tuukka time
It's difficult to say that Roy is the greatest goaltender in the modern (since '67) era. Brodeur is just as good. The one thing that sets Patrick apart from the others is that he could change the outcome of a game by simply being on the ice. His passion for the game of hockey can't be surpassed by ANY player.
Guys like LaPlante and Sawchuck can't really be compared to Roy. They are greats from a different era.
im a BRUINS FAN,, and i couldnt of been happier to have this guy guarding Ray bourques net when they won the cup,, ROY is amazing, and as a Bs fan,, i hated him BIG TIME, i hate anyone with montreal, but i respect how good he was,, he gave us hell... this guy is an amazing goalie, and wouldve loved to have seen him in Black n GOLD at some point,, but i just wanted to throw him a lil respect
same with Ray Bourque. I'm a Habs fan and hate the Bruins but Bourque was just great and a classy player. I was happy when they won the cup together in 2001.
Not the BEST goalie ever but for sure but one of the greatest to ever to stand between the pipes. It was a pleasure to watch you tend goal and you were the only goal tender that gave the Red Wings a run for their money. Thank you for all of the great memories!

The greatest goaltender of all time ! No one does it like Patrick ! Game 7 Stanley Cup finals who do you want in nets ??? Answer: ROY. 3 Conn Smythes as playoff MVP an NHL record ! How many does Brodeur have ??? Answer: 0 Conn Smythes ! You can NEVER EVER put Brodeur in the same category as ROY !!!
#33....the best that ever played the game!!!!!!!!!!!l.....come on now carey price....watch this and learn from the best and bring montreal cup 25 !!!!
Ah Patrick Roy ! Ce que j'ai pu l'aimer ce joueur là quand il était avec les Canadiens... Je suis vraiment contente que le climat soit rétablit entre l'organisation et lui. Il est l'un des meilleurs gardien de but de tous les temps :)
true enough MR ROY is the true butterfly. all goalies can learn from him even Marty. a well respected player who loves the game and was never afraid to play under pressure, he always looked at it as just a game and nothing more. thats what made him very confident.
Anyone who plays the butterfly style today or some variation of it owes a debt to Patrick Roy. He and Francois Allaire made it the most efficient and successful style in an era when goalies were still expected to stay on their feet at all times. Patrick Roy is why goaltending has surpassed the play of forwards and the NHL has begun to institute rules to level the playing field again. A true innovator, Patrick Roy. Brodeur just stood on the shoulders of the giants that came before him.
yes chazwozel your right, but wont be able to reach his playoff records. dont forget, roy retired at 37 years of age. also mr roy mentioned that hes not worried about his record bieng broken, thats why he retired at 37. he could of played 3 or 4 more years, that would make marty second best.
last time I cheked Roy beat him head to head in the finals. and he has a hell of alot more trophies than Broduer. Really...take the 1 record thats nothing, He will never be as great as Roy!
How is Brodeur a "better rounded athlete?" Because he kicks out bad rebounds and finds himself completely out of position several times a game? Patrick Roy and Francois Allaire patented a style of play that might seem boring to people like you, but it's significantly more efficient. The mantra of the butterfly goalie is that if you had to make a spectacular save, you were out of position.
People say Broudeur is the best.. With out Patrick Roy their would be NO Martin Brodeur. Brodeur will have the win record soon, but the trap style defense and the 18-20 shots a game helped.
@iamfoob at least he played for montreal, and yea it' been forgotten for a long time now, if it wasn't do you think he would let them retire his jersey?
It gives me chills watching this. I was 10 years old in 1986 and knew I was seeing something special. My family were Sabres fans so I watched alone on a little black and white tv as Roy lead Montreal to the cup. I've been a huge fan ever since!
Thanks so much for sharing that memory. Lucky you, I was only born the year after. It must've been something to see the skinny little goaltender that everyone thought would never make the NHL, leading the Habs the way he did.
You don't need to trade your ride in, I actually have the game AND the ceremony recorded on my PVR and on the camera I brought with me to the game. So when I can get the recordings onto this computer, I'll be more then happy to make a montage. Think of it as an add-on to this tribute.
I too idolized this man. I got to see the game at the Bell Centre when his number went up to the rafters and it was so special. At one point, he even turned to the section I was in and waved. It was a beautiful moment.
I was at the game last night. A moment I'll never forget was when Roy stood off his chair, grabbed the logo from his jersey and started waving it to the crowd. I took pictures and videos of the ovation and the banner going up and will post them up shortly.
