I haven't played much of this version, but I have the DS version and love it. I actually got all the stars in it, the only Mario game I 100% completed.
One thing I don't like about this game is how when I'm trying to do a long jump I constantly do a ground-pound instead. I didn't like that in galaxy either as in that game there was times when I try to long jump over a gap and instead it does a ground-pound into the black hole
yeah, the memory card did plug in the controller, dont think i ever even used mine. the rumble pack plugged into the controller and i think the game boy thing to plug in game boy games did also (the only game i remember using this for was the old pokemon games on pokemon stadium 1 or 2, cant remember)
My best friend was laid up with a broken leg and his grandma got this for him. I remember hanging out over there all day playing it. When I first saw it its like he said, my ass was blowen away with this game. I also played a hockey game over there alot that was unlike any other game I had played up to that point.
I got 101 stars omg its a hard game even for todays standard there a millions of tricks and the replay ability is amazing got mario 64 for my n64 ds and wii lolz how they thought of this game is amazing! I love retro gaming!!

@cloverbeatme1 me neither. Doesn't feel like mario to me. All flash no substance. Non existent plot and all you do is hunt for things. I grew up on SMB and SMB3 as well as Mario World and Yoshi's Island. This is nothing like those games. It is revolutionary in what they were able to accomplish but it has always bored me and felt like a completely different game with Mario, Toad, Peach and Bowser added in even down to the Music. I love Galaxy and G2 but this I can't play even today.
@dommiesan The game man. It's all flash. All you do is run around and search for stars. Some levels you have to go back 7 times. Boring. I thought as an older gamer like me you would see through the superficial flash and see that it has no gameplay. Everything is gutted to make way for it's new look. They had to make you search because they used all the processing power on the graphics and environments. Ocarina of time is an example of how to utilize the 3d medium properly. Mario 64 = borefest.
@Luigi84289 maybe now, but to a kid back in the 90's and even an adult, it was greatness. the first of its kind and revolutionary to gaming and mario itself. it may be boring now compared to most games of today, but you still can't fuck with it.
@jaLLenBeats Naw man this game was revolutionary in the sense it was 3d and gave you a sense of freedom but it doesn't keep your attention. Unlike the previous titles which are very straightforward, linear and action packed this one feels empty. It felt very lacking in 1996 and does much more so today with the graphics not even being attractive anymore. Mario Galaxy is a good example of how to do mario 3d right. I was all ready to get an n64 until I played this game then went sony.
@jaLLenBeats Crash felt more like mario than mario 64. I still have the first one and play it now and then crazy challenging, lots of hidden secrets and a multiple paths to the ending and it kept everything fresh and challenged the player constantly. Choosing between Crash Bandicoot and the Lost World Jurassic Park and Mario was a no brainer. I got an n64 years later to play zelda, goldeneye and starfox and paper mario.
@smashmaster13 I was one. I owned a ps1. Crash is what I thought Mario 64 was gonna be. It was too much of a departure. Kids who grew up with it can't understand the level of disappointment I and many others who looked forward to this console faced when we finally played the game. I love my crash bandicoot and lost world jurassic park. My two favorite games from that time period.
@dommiesan Umm he is actually right... Its called n 64 or nintendo 64... Not 6-4... Why? Because the nintendo 64 was a 64 bit console... Not a 6 - 4 bit console that just does not work...
So congrats at owning however many n64s but your still wrong... And no you dont have a right to call em whatever you want... ask the console creaters... Its an N64. jackass. Btw mario 64 was fuckin awesome :D
@PianoXfan1 Actually, I dropped the 64 all together a few months ago. I now call them just "N's". And I'm no longer surrounded by N's - sold out of them.
@PianoXfan1 hahaha you can do that to any number. some people say 7-2 instead od 72 its doesn't matter, 6 4 means 64... so he CAN call it that. lol sew him.
Great review! Super Mario 64 was not a pack-in with the N64 console, however. The N64 was the first Nintendo console not to include a game aside from the SNES Control Set.
Wow, I never knew that. It must have been a later release when they started including pack-in games with N64. I remember being disappointed that, in addition to having to drop $200 for the console at launch, also having to spend $60 for the game.
Can you post a video of your N64 with the Mario 64 pack in game?
great review, i found it very enjoyable ^_^, i actually plan on doing a review of this game for a thanksgiving special thingy :p, cause im thankful for this game! XD
I started gaming about 10 years ago. I had only a computer and an NES. But I played almost all major games throughout history. Even though Unreal Tournament and other great games came out at that time, I looked back and played really old games (Lands of Lore, Prince of Persia) Then I played 16-bit console games (contra 3, Comix Zone, Sonic) And now Im playing nintendo 64 games - I dont care about graphics and stuff but I still find nin64 games boring.Even though i consider myself a retro gamer.
Super Mario 64 2 was moved to the Gamecube after the Disc Drives failure under the name Mario 128. The game eventually became Pikmin but Galaxy borrowed some of the games concepts.
yo i read that this game was going to be on the super nintendo using the super fx chip and i was like NO FUCKING WAY, the game got scraped because it program right or something so nintendo made it for the 64 instead which is more powerful then the super nintendo
@dommiesan There's some truth in that. The platforming elements of Star Fox 2 (which of course itself was scrapped) were later used as reference points for Super Mario 64. At least, according to Dylan Cuthbert.
Please try to stay on topic as much as possible, I know you probably do them on the fly but try to script it a bit more, you talked about the console more than the title.
Apart from that, just the fact that you aren't annoying like most other reviewers make this enjoyable :) Keep it up, get better!
not the GREATEST game of all time. yeah it was fuckin revolutionary, but i think ocarina of time takes the cake, as it used all this and put it into an epic storyline, much more epic then SM64
I didnt like sm64 when i first played it, i hated the controls of the game at first aswell, but once i opened up the game a bit sm64 bloomed into a great game, fav level 1st snow level, banjo kazooie is far better though

What's the differences between the original copy and the Player's choice Million Seller I don't get the point.
TheRaker55 11 months ago
@TheRaker55 It's just the packaging. The game itself is absolutely the same. Player's Choice appeals to parents and people on a budget

@MPHswayze Oh thanks didn't know that.
One person told me that it was due to the bugs in the games.
