i think its sounds old skool, if you have ever heard of lenny white and return to forever, then you will know what im talkning about, it has a dry crack to it , nothing wrong with that tone mate, thumbs up.i would also put a small disch cloth folded on edge, tuned lower for that old vintage recording sound too .

This is shitty for studio recording, of course. But I've gotta say: when playing in places where you don't want to be very loud, this snare can be a great deal.
@flabaman44 Try using an Evan's Genera Dry top head and a Remo Hazy Diplomat bottom head if your looking to have no ring out of your snare, also if you have a metal snare it's going to be a little harder to eliminate that, but keep in mind that "ring" act's like reverb for drums, it is always good to have a little so the drum can blend between fills smoothly.
@flabaman44 Try putting some tape on the batter head / reso head. Every snare drum will ring, without muffling. Can't say how the hell he did this, it sounds bullocks.
it's a tight sound, mine sounds slightly similar but has a deeper sound, and it sounds amazing, some people don't like it, but i think it sounds good, matter of opinion i guess
ehh I don't really like it... I dont think you should be aiming to tune it to a note of any sort, you should just tune it so that it is at least in tune (lug-wise) and then tighten it til you personally like the sound... don't worry about tuning it to A's and B's and what not lol
the snare side was tuned really tight, up to an A, and the batter side was tuned tight, up to a G or to a B the head was an old stock coated head, very cheap, however any head would work for this, and even better
it your choice dude :) i´ve cheap snare drum too a for me sounds good...
