  • Where were you filming this from?

  • Gorgeous.... would be better if there was some cruisy music too..... a symphony of marine magic and music ..... yummy!

  • Thank you, Please search youtube for "Manta Ray Inspiration"

  • I have recurring nightmares of them and when I go to tje aquarium I have nervous breakdowns. I can't stand fish tanks that are larger than myself.

  • We got to do a night snorkel with them a few weeks ago in Hawaii and it was one of the most amazing things I'd ever done! Thank you for filming this.

  • They're like elegant, underwater spaceships.

    Maybe they carry aliens? ;)

  • fishy swim swim fishy swim swim

  • This is one of my favorite clips on youtube. But when I just watched it, most of the images have become distorted. I think the file may be corrupted. Would it be possible to re-post this video clip? Thank you. And thank you for making such a beautiful and relaxing film.

  • my favorite sea creature^^

  • For my money they're one of the most elegant yet fearsome looking creatures on the planet. Just beautiful.

  • is it dangerous?

  • mantas are beautiful even if they do scare me

  • Sin lugar a dudas el animal mas "elegante" que uno puede encontrase en el Oceano !!! Esos movimientos, es INCREIBLE !!!

Excelente video !!!! Soy buceador, pero aun no he podido estar en una situacion como esta !! Felciitaciones !

  • I wish I could swim and not be afraid of deep water so I could swim with them :( Thanks for the upload elayani - we need to tell to as many people as we can that these beautiful creatures are an endangered speices.

  • These creatures are amazing. I just watched them for the first time on an amazing programme called natural world on bbc iplayer. They are so intelligent and beautiful its a real bad thing that people are killing them for chinese medicine and food. Its amazing how small fish get rid of their dead skin cells and parasites and heal wounds from sharks! How amazing is God's creation! I'm blown away.

  • emmmm la bd yo no ablo en ingles :D

  • Thanks for putting this video up. I'm doing a report about them for science and I had to know how they moved. They're so graceful and pretty.

  • beautiful animals

  • they've got some lampreys there!

  • @ Ididnotdothismyself: I don't think those are lampreys...they look more like remoras to me.

  • @greeneyedwriter89 I think so too.

  • They are huge!!

  • @10samm10 they can grow to 25 feet!

  • Ugh! no sound! . . . really, really beautiful though

  • I love Mantas <3

  • es increible este video es simplemente espectacular como son de maravillosos estos enormes animales acuaticuaticos de verdad es uno de los videos mas bellos que he visto

  • Muchas gracias

  • And BTW, wikipedia is not a good source for information. I suggest you get some books about myliobatidae. Much more useful (and accurate). Good day.

  • wow...... fantastisch tolle Aufnahmen

  • im like a manaray i only want first place?

  • i've been there too, magnific...

  • chuck norris designed these after spaceships.

    truly incredible creatures.

  • "Your head can go real screw. With saucers chasing you!"

  • wow! mantas are such incredible creatures. nice video

  • fucking awsome i loves these things R>I>P crocodile dun dee.

  • lol corcodile hunter?

  • do u mean Steve Irwin???

  • and if it was it was a sting ray not a manta ray tht killed him

  • Take some tijme and watch some of theh other Manta clips. It seems like the Mantas are drawn to the divers. I wonder if the rays are scooping up the diver's bubbles to get more O2?

  • Mantas are extremely curious around humans, and are fond of swimming with scuba divers. Although they may approach humans, if touched, their mucus membrane is removed, causing lesions and infections on their skin. They often surface to investigate boats without engines running.

  • thats wikipedia's exact definition lol

  • Haha my comment limit was exceeded, and i had to type: "toripimp" .. I catch batrays and sharks all the time, and they dont have a slime coat. They have tough leathery skin, and rough denitcles.

  • mmmmmarcus: Manta Rays are different from other rays in quite a few ways.

  • Aside from size and feeding behavior, they are nearly identical to the smaller mobulas, and bat rays. After all mobulas, bat/eagle rays, and mantas are the same family- myliobatidae. They are not fragile creatures that erupt into sores from human contact. If that were true, all the batrays i know as individuals (meaning i often catch the same batray repeatedly) would be covered in sores from years of me holding them with bare hands.

  • Following the release of Scientology OT levels on wikileaks on April 7 2008, Scientology threatened legal action against them. Wikileaks said in response: "Wikileaks will not comply with legally abusive requests from Scientology .... Wikileaks will remain a place where people of the world may safely expose injustice and corruption. Indeed, in response to the attempted suppression, Wikileaks will release several thousand pages of additional Scientology materials next week."

  • incredible.....

  • gracias por tu comentario

  • wow that was cool, and lucky you got to film that

  • One of the most wonderful things I have seen in my entire life, thank you.

  • Wow. Awesome.

  • WOW! 0.0

  • Is the manta point that this video was filmed at near the Island of thudufushi? or are there lots of Manta Points all over the maldives?

I went there the year you were there and again this xmas, went to manta point but only saw one, and for about 5 seconds!

  • Thanks for your reply,

yes,I think there are more manta points.

this movie was filmed at south male atoll

  • i swam with them once near Jamaica and there were loads and loads of them (i'm talking hundreds) but it was a tourist spot and they were super friendly, surprisingly. it was rather fun to swim with them and pet them, actually as long as you knew how to shuffle your feet around.

  • /jealous

  • I just read on wiki that you shouldn't pet them cause they may get infections... hopefully no one suffered from that though.. maybe the guides forgot to tell you that

  • there's a lot of things in life that people do that aren't good for you but we do them anyway... live a little! :)

  • i'll be sailing this summer. i'm afraid of water but at least i'm trying. would be cool to see a manta in real life though :p

  • Magic

  • huge ass aliens!!!! creeps me out...

  • no no huge ass manta rays

    andd i think they're cute

  • I was at Manta Point saturday and saw 7 manta's. I've been diving now for 3 year and seeing these amazing creatures was the highlight. I did'nt take any video myself but this has reminded me of a truly great moment.

    Thanks for the posting..

  • A good thing about manta rays is that they taste terrible, so no asshole over fishing!

  • It's interesting to note the wave of their fins at they make certain maneuvers such as the ray that was stationary for a few moments toward the beginning. His normal motion for swimming was almost unaltered but at the end of each stroke their was a snap of the fin in the opposite direction of the rest of the stroke.

As I look to life for inspiration on engineering I think it would be great to design a submersible based on the manta ray.

  • Fantastic Creature!, I was so fascinated with manta rays that I even produce a movie with a manta and a boy in a paradise Island, and I am still so impressed that I may start to produce another feature film with more mantas. Find the trailer in "cinevieques" , or in "Tito and the manta ray".

  • underwater mind-blow

  • wow . are they really that giant ? i thought that they didn't com that size

  • Biggest one had a wingspan of 24 feet or something.

  • where are you exactly anyway

  • my god that must have been the experience of a life time

next year im going to maui i hope to shark diva, reef diva, cave dive, and manta dive,

    i cant wait

    question

where can i get an underwater camera like the one ur using

  • can someone plz tell me where i can buy an underwater camera to film my scuba trip ??

  • I had a school swim around me in 4 ft of water one morning. It was funny....about 2o minutes later.

  • *shudder*

Even though they're harmless, I'm really scared of manta rays. They make me feel very uneasy and even afraid sometimes. They are so cool. :)

  • So beautiful!

  • wow its a whole different world under the water!

  • beautiful!

  • BEAUTIFUL

  • I think that guy who says he is majoring in marine biology needs to drop out because he will be no help to the scientific community. Devil Ray is a name given to the Manta Rays because of the horn like projections that you can obviously see in this video and in any textbook showing manta rays. Manta Ray = Devil Ray

  • I love this video!!!

    @RyanIsTheOwnage: Me Too :-)

@cleffaruru "These could be sting rays or devil(eagle) rays": If you really think these could be stingrays, I suggest you sue your marine biology professor for not doing his job!

  • I want one.

  • Those aren't spotted eagles. For one thing, spotted eagles have closed tipped "noses", not open mouths with little "flaps".

  • yep theyre definately devil rays

  • devil ray is another name for manta ray, they're the same.

  • no theyre not devil rays have little horns on theyre heads hense thethey are related but definately not the same! name Devil rays lol

  • google it

  • i dont have to . i am majoring in marine biology. i would know.

  • He's right... Devil rays are the same as manta rays, just different name...

  • lol these arent manta rays. Mantarays have rounded wings as these have pointed ones. These could be sting rays or devil(eagle) rays

  • These are manta rays... Another name for a manta ray is a devil ray.

  • no theyre not! grrrrr devil rays have horn like projections sticking out from theyre head! hense the name "devil" ray. manta rays have no horns and have rounded head and wings. devil rays have pointed wings. i would know. im the marine biologist here!

  • so how come they both have the same latin name? if you stop being so arrogant and actually bother to look this up you'll see they're the same.

  • no theyre not! grrrrrrrr i did look it up. on google and in 2 textbooks that i have for school. THEYRE NOT THE SAME AND YOURE THE ARROGANT ONE!ACCEPT THAT YOURE WRONG!!

  • Wikipedia, the answer to all things.

Go check it out their, it states:

Mantas have been given a variety of common names, including Atlantic manta, Pacific manta, devil ray, devilfish, and just manta.

  • there's no need to shout. I can't find any website that says a devil ray is a separate species from a manta ray, so i'd be interested to see the information you found on google. several different sources say that manta birostris is the latin for both devil ray and manta ray, so maybe if you told me the latin name for your separate species, not manta but devil ray, i'd be a bit more open to persuasion. I'm not being arrogant, I've seen a good deal of reliable information that backs me up.

  • If you're a scientist, why is your grammar wrong?

  • Nice video. Such beautiful creatures. Just read this morning some poor woman was killed when a ray jumped out of the water (usually to clear bacteria and parasites from their bodies) and knocked her back on her boat and whacked her head. Thought I'd share.

  • the fish folowing them at the start are anerexic lol

  • Just so incredible beautiful. I love manta rays. They're like angels in the water.

  • until they kill you

  • I love manta's. Their so graceful, and beautiful. It's a dream of mine to be able to swim with them one day ^^. Though I dought that will ever I happen I still think they are very beautiful creatures.

  • me too

  • There The Oceans flying carpets :) in hawaii they let u ride Big Konoha its so fun

  • They're not really dancing either, are they? Just drifting about aimlessly sucking up plankton - or whatever Manta rays do.

  • its fake just like 9-11

  • Yes - that's right, hansjeir. This is a scene from "Finding Nemo", right? "Let's name the oceans, the oceans, the oceans..."

  • He's just written that cuz he wants to tell everyone 9-11 is fake. I bet he's going around as many videos as possible repeating the same message just to get noticed...

  • WHAT?! Does someone living in the 21th century claim that Mantas don't exist? :''''''DDDDDD

  • Um, no. Manta rays are quite real idiot. Just because you can't get off your lazy fat-ass and have never been outside your room in 10 years doesn't mean everything you haven't seen is fake. Pure ignorance.

  • nope

  • why do you say that?

  • think they do this for mating season

  • oh my gawd that is the most incredible thing i have ever seen

  • whish i could have bin there

  • That's some luck to meet so many manta rays, just one is to exciting to me :|

  • insane. i wish there was some audio to go along with it. or hidef :)

  • *jaw drops in awe*

  • damned...a dream would come true with it!

  • that's amazing!

why don't you feature your film with a soundtrack?

  • That is some rare footage

  • AWESOME!!! Must have been an exciting experience.

  • great video I know it was a fantastic experience...well done

  • They look much like the Manta Fighter off Uridium =)

  • I'd probably shit myself and have a heart attack. So props to whoever took the video.

  • manta rays r fucking huge as hell

  • people call these mantas devil rays because the horn like entenas on it's head!

  • ye i lyk sting rays coz they r more interested in the camera LOL!

  • Spectacular. Manta rays are the greatest creatures on earth!

  • WOW....this looks like it was a fabulous dive. I don't think I've ever seen so many manta's in one place before....great footage :)

  • Thank you for this great video. I love Manta rays. They look like they enjoyed the company.

  • watch out for the stinger! u know who got hurt by one of those things

  • That was a STING RAY, these are MANTA RAYS.

  • oops haha sorry

  • Wow, so beautiful... manta rays are such amazing creatures, even though I have to say that when they're feeding and doing back flips only several inches beneath you, their size is pretty intimidating (I did a night snorkel with them in Kona).

  • I want to be a baby manta. Then I would be loved by all.

  • I love manta rays!!!!!!! This is amazing!!!!!

  • wow... this footage is amazing. So peaceful

  • I know you probably won't believe me. But - no shit - I was there, at Manta Point, maldives at Easter 2007, saw 9 Manta's altogether and 3 sharks. absolutely incredible.

  • taht wud be pretty creepy at first to have such a large creature

  • Wow! What an amazing experience to see all these mantas. Truly breathtaking film, has made me feel really chilled out and relaxed. That is as good as anything you see on the TV nature documentaries.

  • Thx

  • wow absolutely an amazing video, they are truly amazing creatures they have always been one of my favorites. There was only one problem with this whole video...you didnt bring me along. Really though it is amazing footage and thanks for sharing.

  • Manta rays are an awesome creature in wich they can actually fly out of the water for a short distance!!!

When they are in the air they kill people by strangling them with their tales!!

I almost died from one too

  • Hey Elayani.

This video is absolutely stunning, and SO inspiring to me.

I hope this doesn't sound like a pitch, but your / this video is now posted on my band website, to give a visual stimulus while listening to the music.

This video is truly beautiful dude.

5 Stars, and my absolute thanks to you!

  • manta rays are absolutly butiful they are graceful and i love dem they are my absolutly favorite animal

  • hey did you know if you are caught tring to ride one of those by the couastguard or other autoritive figures at sea you can be imprisoned for a loooooooooong time.

  • i want one :((

  • how big are these things cuz i think i read sumwhere they could be the size of small planes

  • no thats like the bigest they can get

  • Was this a cleaning station? Why were these mantas attracted to this point?

  • Yes , cleaning station .Probably 'rush hour' for the 'shower' at one point in time we count 14 mantas.

  • Ela, i just got back from Manihi. We had a fabulous cleaning station, but only 5 at a time. Check out my video called "Sailing Mantas".

  • What camera did you use to film this?

  • Used my Olympus C8080 .

  • This is fab, which Island were you staying at and what time of the day were you diving?

  • Thank you , Manta Point dive site @ N.Male Atoll .
