Why didn't they make a good version of this for the genesis? Sega could have put all these out on the 32x or something, arcade perfect. I guess we were all stuck in 3D/FMV land then.
About maximizing the score with those close attack only bonus's in shinobi, have a watch of the verified 1st place ,shinobi world record replay at my account to see . Now try doing those things on the hu-card version.
Looks wise ,it's good, but there is no bonus stages, there's no level two ,there's missing animation, sound, enemies.
Such a shame, when i know it could have been dot on,or even better than the coin-op,just from playing some of the cards i have,if they really needed to ,they could have made a rom rom conversion ,imagine the audio quality,it would be another sega port better than what was on a sega machine (monster lair is a poor arcade game, but the rom rom version dumps on the sega1
As an owner of a rgb modded briefcase ,sms/mega drive(jap rgm and region modded))ps1and2 and lucky enough to have a brand spanking divers 2000 cx-1 dreamcast (look at my account and you'll see i use a picture of it on my dining room table ,as my account background)oh yes.
I don't rate the hu card version,i was so dissapointed with how much was chopped out,i gave the complete jap game to a friend, his comment about the game rang true with mine
With the close range move missing, you can't easily get the bonus points at the end of a level, for only using close range attacks as you can in the coin op version.
To get the bonus, you have to complete the levels without attacking, very clever move ,ha ha .
Making it impossible to go for the high scores,as you need this bonus.
The sms version is bloody good, hell, even the nes version has the bonus stages .
this looks like a decent port! i have it on xbox and it is identical to the arcade version. This game is so fucking hard on the fifth level though!! you literally have to have reflexes of a ninja to get by that stage.
@sunteam the NES did not have any sega games. TENGEN paid SEGA to create UNLICENSED BY NINTENDO games for the NES of companies such as sega and atari. those games were shinobi, super sprint, toobin', alien syndrome, to name a few. eventually nintendo forced tengen to go out of business and destroy most of its retail copies (from as best as i can remember). i think the judge told tengen to pull all copies of its nes games at the retail level.
Boy I wished I had played this game back in 1989 instead of the crappy Sega Master System version. Seems like Sega's ports of their own fucking games were better on the PC Engine. Aint that a shame.
I dont think any of them do and I think it can do a little less than 512 at one time, but it is still probably around 4x more than genesis could put onscreen.
This conversion had very good graphics and music, but the missing stages and close attacks hurt it a lot. The graphics were a bit dark too in certain. Overall, another good PC Engine port that suffered due to to small HuCard size. I'm sure a SCD port would've been great though.
The legendary Shuriken-throwing bonus stage, which was simply inexcusable for the PC Engine, given that Sega managed to put in the Master System version.
You simply CANNOT have a conversion of Shinobi without the bonus stage in it!
i download ed this cool game and it not the same 1 as this how do you get it

The arcade version but not this crappy port. So much was removed in the PC Engine.

How are the controls in this game?
DynasticHero 1 year ago
@DynasticHero
It sucks. You can't even punch, kick, or use your sword when powered up. This version would have been great if was released on a 4 meg HuCard.

But then you look at golden axe and that just proves what can go wrong ,when you give the job to the wrong company.

Poor version of an awesome game, No close range attacks = fail.
