  • This is the best one yet!! Im playing!

  • this is awsome!

  • HaHa! I love that you're wearing your scrubs. Nice touch, "DrumDoc"!

I was recently given an old Alexandria darbuka with an original mylar head that needs to be replaced. I was considering the Skyndeep head. You said they are hard to fit on properly. What did you do to get yours to work?

  • Very good DrumDoc!!! Thanks for posting!!!

  • Hey DrumDoc, Thanks for sharing your knowledge. I just discovered this video and I'm quite happy, my friend was trying to show it to me this summer, but it seems watching this made it even easier. Specially with the fact that you are explaining the 4/4 count as well. Great work. Where can I find other lesson from you related to Darbuka and middle eastern beats?

  • veryyyyy goooooodd!!!!! I love this lesson!!!

  • its verry good lesson!! i understand !! can u play goubahi and baroual ??!! its a north african rythme iwant to know how to pllay it ty!!! =)

  • I see you put on a Remo skyndeep head. Those are really nice sounding, aren't they?

  • Yea they sound great, it's just a hassle to install them on egyptian drums because they don't fit those correctly. The difference with the mylar head regarding the sound is that they give a rubbing nose (like when you move your hand on the skin) where as the mylar doesn't. On the other hand the skyndeep lets your fingers glide don't do not get sticky even in humid conditions, whereas mylar gets sticky with humidity and sweat.

  • @DrumDoc5 Great lesson, thanks! One question about the skyndeep, how did you install it, does it need to be modified in some way? I would like to get the same skin for my doumbek.

  • Thank you for the video! I too can´t wait for the next one!

  • please post more lessons! loved it!

  • Great video drumdoc :) I can play this very well now but I need to give my laptop a break before it breaks and use an actual derbakeh :) Looking forward to lesson 2 :)

  • Thank you Sally. I wont actually post lesson 2 until u actually get a derbakeh, coz I don't want you to blame me for breaking your laptop ;) you got me thinking about adding a disclaimer :" this lesson is only intended to be practiced on your drum. Do not try this on your laptop". LOL :)
