As Americans if we read our Declaration of Independence and Constitution (& Bill of Rights) and agree with it we'd easily say we stand for the inalienable rights of Man (Man meaning humanity.). If then we find we've been lied into an unjust war, and are carrying death forward wrongly, we must see that our acts are ultimately criminal against the human rights of the people we war against.

We can still support the troops as human beings being misused in that war, but we must also see that protesters had seen the truth of the lie born carnage for profit first, and acted morally. The Vietnam, the Iraq, and the Afghanistan wars are all lie born for rich men's power and profit.

@BryantFinlay This also relates to the double edged sword of Free Speech. Even that in total opposition to a standing government. This right must not be lost even when it's expression is alarming. An informed democracy in a Republic can not stand where expressing radical dissent if suppressed.

@BryantFinlay 2. The real treason was committed by the Gulf of Tonkin style lies used to satisfy the military industrial corporate complex's lust for war, conquest, and exploitation. In my book Fonda was a patriot working to get her fellow Americans to understand the real reasons for the war and the crimes being committed in their names. Something many Americans want to white wash to this day.

@Commiton how about the north vietnamese torturing, beating, and killing american prisoners of war?! that is a clear violation of the geneva conventions. there is indisputable evidence that it happened and fonda was dumb enough to say it didn't. have you also heard of tokyo rose: an american woman who did the exact same thing fonda did in broadcasting for the enemy over the radio. she was sent to prison for treason. the only reason fonda was not put on trial was due to nixon's vietnamization

@Commiton also, the prison guards and north vietnamese leaders who are still alive should have to face war crimes trials in front of the hague tribunal for what they did to pows and for the mass murder of vietnamese that occured in places like hue after the tet offensive. that also extends to my own country's perpetrators of agent orange and indiscriminate civilian bombing.

check out david zeiger's film "sir! no sir!" for a historical wake up call. the majority of the war protesters were the veterans themselves. they were the heart and soul of the movement to stop the war, the lies, the killing. jane fonda was on THIER ride. read a book people; do some research. try thinking for yourself.

@kevinbluey Yes and no, a good comment. Many of the protesters were veterans. Is there any wonder? They left limbs and dead brothers in SE Asia in a senseless war that they were not allowed to win. Politicians, not Generals and Admirals, making decisions that led only to the deaths of more good people. On both sides. Senior Bush got it right in the first Gulf War, he stayed out of the way. As for Jane, more than anything she was on her side. Her approach was totally self-serving. "Look at me".

Herr SW Simpson, I do not know the fate of your father, I certainly hope he survived the war and is doing fine now. I do not know if he was an F-4 pilot or a crewman on a B-52. Perhaps he was an infantryman, it doesn't really matter, he was a hero and deserved better during a very difficult time. Please thank him or his memory from those who remember. Of all the people involved in a war that killed 58,000 service men, you're going after Jane Fonda? How about the five administrations that sent men over there to die. She was one of 300 patriotic americans who went there to try and stop the bombing the dikes and expose the lies surrounding the war. That's it! She didn't know she was sitting on an anti-aircraft gun. If you want to hold someone accountable how about Nixon and his cabinet. Not an actress.

When a famous person tells the world your father is a murderer and a war criminal and the punishment is execution, THEN you may have an idea of how she has hurt a lot of people. Sadly, we lose out whits and do as designed, seek and destroy before destroyed; all poor boys and gals fighting in the mud where no innocence lives. War is hell and I never asked to go to Hell and back. Yet, when you are in hell you keep your own fire burning - then you return and try to forget what you have done to survive.

Further, we have laws which make judgments and punish, so your belief that no one should hold anyone else accountable for their words and actions is flawed. My Father dodged Anti-Air shells and SAM strikes for three years in Vietnam. Hanoi Jane will not be forgotten, as villians names are also etched in our minds the same as over 58,000 heroes are etched in stone. My Father never forgot, his sons will never forget and Jane will go down in history as a Traitor, no matter arguments otherwise. Jane was hoping I would not be around to write this, as she urged my Father and his Brothers to die. Here I am, here history shall remain.
