@liketotalybla That's exactly the point, the song shows his vulnerability in the situation, through the vulnerability of his voice. It's perfect imperfection.
You can say what you want guys. I like J.Pradon as Judas. Maybe his accent is a bit french, maybe his voice is not ideal for Judas, but he deliver the emotion and pain, Just brilliantly. As much as i love to LISTEN to the old version with Murray, I would always prefer to WATCH the Jerome's performance instead. he is a really good actor.
Personally I love Jerome Pradon as Judas here, I don't think the song fits his voice very well and I don't think he's a great singer, but his eyes are so intense and magnetic and I think his acting is so good that it makes up for any vocal problems.
i'm trying to give this guy the benefit of the doubt here.... i mean, i'll give him that he is on key, it's not like he's out of tune or anything.... but damn. the acting, the tone of his voice.... it just doesn't do it. don't like it man, not at all.
I love judas in this version, he seems more of a main character than Jesus. He has emotion in each song he sings to suit the type mood hes supposed to be in, (normally sad and confused) The flaws in his voice when singing makes him seem like a human rather than someone trying to sing properly.
I also love that through the entire actual production of this, he always seems to be be smirking at jesus and contradicting him as if theyre equals. It makes the show a whole lot better.
I love Jerome's Judas - he's no Zubin Varla (cf. London Studio Cast) vocally and he knows it, so he takes the part and makes it his own not through unbelievable piper but sheer honest acting. It wouldn't work on record, but as a performance I think it's brilliant.
@ikklecookiemonsta agreed....the acting does make up for the quite frankly subpar vocals. I still prefer the '73 movie, but I do actually like the slight variations on the lyrics.....This is still good!
@Rinskesmiles the first time i saw this i was devastated, i didnt like it at all but the more i watch it the more it groes on me, his acting is absolutely phenomenal
Nothing like a bad-boy tenor... lol Wish I could pull it off...lol
Great love the edge in the "JESUS!" in the beginning.
Hope Im not struck down... but is it me or does the way its staged and filmed make this seem like a lovers spat with the looks and touching... just me- could be alone in this
You're not the only one who thinks it looks like a lovers' spat.
However, regarding Jerome Pradon as a "tenor..." He's a baritone. But the role of Judas is a tenor. This role is actually out of Pradon's normal vocal range. Note the squeaks, voice-cracking, etc.
I think the squeaks and cracking sort of help to add to the character even if not intentional. Judas was a very broken and confused man really, especially in the end.
this judas is pretty good, especially voice-wise, but i prefer judas' voice to have more edge and rawness, so i have to say i prefer the '73 version with Anderson.
And the Jesus here, while a good singer, is kind of just meh for me acting-wise (and I've seen this movie too, so don't hate! lol)
i prefer this judas. you guys make it sound like he's terrible. of course i saw this version of the show before the 1970's version. i think his voice adds more emotion. you can hear judas' fear and desperation in his voice. while the other one was good as well infact his version was something you can dance to. great singer. but this judas is more human.
I'm sorry but he is awful and the worst possible choice for this role. I can't beleive that this will now be incased in film for eternity, it's a discrase. The only decent person in this film is Tony Vincent
Mmm, he's hot and his voice is very good. But it's so strange - a white Judas! Anderson owned this role, and I liked this scene in the old movie - he was far away from Jesus, high on the mountain, and all his words wasted, Jesus didn't hear him.
Slashy undertones? Why not? Mr. Anderson's sexy Judas had hard yaoi undertones, too! So what's the matter? :D
I wrote once an NC-17 fic about Jesus and Judas. *evil and heretic*
Eh...it was okay, I guess. I personally am not a fan of Mr. Pradon's voice, but I suppose it's an acquired taste. I can't really dis it, I suppose; I'm a big fan of Daphne Rubin-Vega and I suppose that this is similar.
My really problem was how he was not...fluid at all. Each word seemed so stacatto and sharp. It sounded as if...I don't know...he isn't fluent in English, and this is not a comment on the accent; I'm French-Canadian myself. He sounded stiff.
Well put, actully. The Vibrato is what's overdone, and I've been trying to put my finger on that for awhile. I used to hate this version, but after awhile it grew on me and I now think its very good.
The sharp stacatto feel you talk about is what he uses to make the song and character 'spikier' and it adds a mean shade to the song, think.... it wouldn't be at all as good or mocking/ questioning if it were legato...
Just an actor making a decision to use the music toward his bad-boy portrayal of Judas
monsieur pradon-i salute you!!you are a prince!anyone who doesnt enjoy this is a clown!this is pure class!what a man,what a star!!go go go jerome!class!xxx
i love jerome's voice for the most part-----it's just when he eeks up into his upper register that it makes me cringe and reminds me of the boys in my old high school theatre department reeeeeeeaching for those high notes.
yeah well his friends call him Jerry, i know him hes my neighbor from austin tx he has a house there thats he visit once or twice a month, weve actually had fine wine and chapagne when he has one of his elegant get togethers. hes cool, his favorite snack is caviar, and he loves lausaugnia.
Good that they put the lyrics there, Then you know what there saying if you hear something what sounds like another word but isnt when they are singing, so that helps alot.
i really don't know, yeah i agree jerome's voice wont match carl's, but as judas, he has this "angst" in which he potrays sooo well.. as in it's full of desperasion, anger.. stuff like that.. cool in my book
sorry this guy no even in the same league as Carl Anderson....I tried to give him a chance...he sounds like a panzy...that's what happens when you try to mess with a classic.
I have to say I also needed to get used to Jerome's voice, but now just I love it. Really, really like him :). Great Judas!! And I must say that I can't really understand how they could cast Tony Vincent as the same role... it's just... NO. Great Jerome!
Could they get a better Judas?? This guy is just - - incredible! The really acts every word - every single word. I mean, I am a huge fan of the character created here - it's so imaginative to have Judas portrayed this way - and Jerome Pradon plays it fantastically. I do worship him. Also - what's everyone's views on Glenn Carter? Cos I worship him aswell - think there can never be a better Jesus - - but people leaving posts on Gethsemane say that he's crap! WHY??? He is also amazing!!!!
@aphrodite3 Probably because he seems more like beautiful empty toy than like a wise teacher and a man who knows about his own terrible death in short time. I'm talking about Carter of course. I like his beauty but I think he doesn't know what he plays. Pradon is a much better actor imho.
Great singer. Great Judas. So much better at when Vincent attempts it. But it's quite clear he is totally inspired by Anderson, but no one does Anderson like the man himself :)
He´s great. I can´t imagine Tony Vincent playing Judas (too sweet form me). To be honest I had to get used to Jerome´s voice, but now I like him....Jerome rulez ;)

I love Jerome! Makes me feel a bit weird cause I like "judas" and dislike "jesus"...well, the actors, you know... Still... Anyway, good scene but still... They made it look a bit like Jesus and Judas were like a couple that had a row or somethinbg like that... Especially the "jesus"... Yeah, whatever. Still like jerome! ;)
