as far as musical quality, let's be real- they suck..but ya'll have to understand that the purpose of the band isn't to be some beasty DCI drumline..maybe i get it cause they're from my hometown...but i appreciate what they do- they help the community out A LOT and the band provides an outlet for local kids- i'd rather my kid be in this band then running the streets....plus it's fun for them- so hey..keep doin what ya'll doin {919 all day!}
i used to be in this band...and I have to speak up for some of these comments. The HELPING HAND MISSION band makes EVERY outfit from scratch and EVERY member takes time out of their day to come and practice on Rock Quarry Rd. We also help the HOMELESS and many people do community service here.I would rather have teens come and practice to dance in a band like this then to rip and run the streets. They all work hard to give EXCELLENT performance in EVERY parade. 919 BITCHES!!!
This is the most worse excuse for a band. I've seen them in various parades around North Carolina and they are always tacky. They even had the nerve to have pregnant girl marching one time. They are embarrassing and disgusting.
I played base drum in my HS marching band. Matbe you've heard of Charlotte Independence? Well back then we were pretty 'white' and there were some 'haters' in the percuussion that insisted on more formal cadences. But there is no denying a good beat. And we had one cadence that sounded almost like this, and deep down, we all liked it the best!
ive seen these guys in person and they are literally amazing. After all the straight marches from high schools, all in time and what not, these guys blow them out of the water. They are so dynamic and the crowd always goes crazy. The video doesn't display how crazy good they can be. Each drummer is actually really skilled, probably more so than the high school players.
I would know because I am in my high school's band.
@blademan921 i see them all the time at parades and their cool and i agree with you except with the "they're more skilled than high school players" my high school drumline could beat them and i know quite a few around raleigh who are definitely more skilled...but nonetheless...they are the business
Just wondering, but why was half of the band not even marching? Drumline included. Marching band means that you march in time, as a unit, not as individuals. If individuals were important, they'd call it freestyle jazz or something.
It's also kind of revoltin to see the girls dressed as such...I can't even begin to imagine how demeaning it is for them to wear such revealing clothing.
HHMB members have always expressed themselves in unique and exhilarating ways, and I don't see why they need to sacrifice their uniqueness in order to conform to a strict definition of a marching band. I love the way they are; they often make me weep. Their energy is contagious.
As for clothing, I heard they design and make their own. It is a band made from scratch, and I respect that very much.
Call 'em marchers, steppers, performers, freestyle jazz steppers. It doesn't matter. They are out there to have fun. Those kids take great pride in having the opportunity to express themselves. The crowd didn't seem to care that they weren't marching in time. I enjoy a good marching band, and appreciate the precision those bands exhibit. There's room for HHMB too. As for the clothing, I've seen more revealing on cheerleaders, gymnasts and tennis stars (Serena).Thx HHMB for sharing your spirit!
