  • Thank you so much for making this tutorial I made my first baby hat/beanie and I have like no patience what so ever with them because its a continuous round thing. But it came out so cute. and I have enough yarn left to make like hopefully two or three more off the skein. I'll be sure to take pictures of them all when I'm done.

  • @Aranur You are welcome.

  • @Aranur I hear you. Treasas such a good teacher takes this slow and breaks it down. I learnt how to make a beautiful flower from one of her tutorials and im not nimbled fingerd at all. congrat on the the hat andto your new baby

    rachel uk

  • @MrsJiffybag Oh no I'm not having a baby anytime soon I'm still single I'm just making them to give to charity and who ever needs them

  • I always follow up on how you end the hat, but it never becomes even. why do you think that happens? like it keeps going in a swirl then wen i pull the way you do, n i look at my hat, its still stuck on the verge of uneven. lol. [[hopefully you understand my meaning.]]

  • Although, I definitely need a beginners playlist also.

  • That is helpful thank you! Nice

  • What age group will this fit? I'm trying to make a hat for a 6 month old.

  • What age group is this hat for? Do you have any patterns for a 12 month hat?? C:

  • I am a beginner and I want to make this beanie for a 4 month old. How do I know what size I should make the beanie? If I use a larger hook will that make it a little larger? I've made a few hats (self taught) using double crochet and they turned out more of an adult size. I've watched so many videos and there are so many techniques out there it can be confusing but yours seem the easiest to follow.

  • @proud2bwifed You can pause just so far each time to get hang of it. I find these videos so helpful & so much easier then written instructions, yeah takes the puzzle out of it :) So, just stop where you want & play again, works for me :)

  • My hat came out small. Like two inches too small with the width and height. But its still a hat so I'm happy! :)

  • @JVB012 Sometimes if you use smaller yarn or naturally crochet tight, the cap may turn out smaller. This is completely normal. If you need to make the cap larger, you can use a larger crochet hook, larger yarn or even work increase stitches and rounds.

  • awesome! I've been crocheting blankets forever, it's nice to make something other than a square! This was so easy to follow! Thanks!

  • @StephLM51 You are welcome. :)

  • I've watched several videos on how to crochet a beanie cap and NONE were as easy as this one! Some of us are definite visual learners, but sometimes we need to see things in slow motion. Thank You Teresa for not only slowing down your video when you started a new line, but for writing out the directions as well.

  • hi i've made this hat but it comes out to big, what size hook would you use for an infant in baby yarn i love the hat thanks

  • thank you for postng this tutorial teresa!

  • i have never crocheted before and i am learning i got the chains down pact but i you are moving way too fast for me to keep up!!!!!! i cant keep up im frustrated. its been hard trying to find a video that starts the project from the chains. i dont understand the language of crochet. all this half double crochet ? =[ im trying to make a baby hat and booties and outfit for my newborn.

    i need help

  • @proud2bwifed This is a project for crocheters who are familiar with the basic crochet stitches. I will send you the beginner crochet playlist. Practice with that and them come back when you understand them a little better.

  • @tjw1963 i learned! yay i just paused n learned the stitches on other videos and came back.. i did the white baby booties came out great now im doing the cap! =] thaaaanks

  • @tjw1963 same for me..may I plz have the beginners playlist?

  • The best way ive learned how to crochet from these videos, is stop the video when you figured out how to do something, if you dont get it right away, then pull out, and try again. watch her hands while she crochets. it took me once to figure it all out.

  • Hi theresa i love all your videos! great patterns and very well explained. I am usully a knitter but i am trying to learn crochet and i'm crocheting a baby beanie to match some booties i have knitted for a friend. my problem is the wool i want to use is 4ply and i have tried this pattern and it seems to be puckering once i get a few rows in and i'm worried how it will turn out. should i be using a different sized hook to match the wool? i want it for a newborn, is this possible? thanks, Ruby.

  • when you start in which loop do you make the 11 hcd in? you always confuse me when you do that please can you tell me where.

  • This is great for a beginner! However, Im stuck at round 5. can someone please explain it in simple terms?? Im an RN in L&D and I want to make lots of hats for my babies. Thanks!

  • @only1shanayc1981 What is happening is the stitches are being worked between the stitches, instead of through the top of the stitches. This creates a different type of finish. This is also an increase stitch where two stitches are being worked and then one stitch is being worked. There is a link in the video details to the written instructions on my crochet blog.

  • @tjw1963 I watched another one of your videos and I think I understand now what increase means..Thanks for your prompt response! I'll let you know how it turns out.

  • @only1shanayc1981 Increase is working 2 stitches in the same stitch. This is so the circle will lay flat and continue to flair out until you are ready for the sides to form. When you stop increasing, the rows will curl up and the sides will form.

  • @only1shanayc1981 Practice and it will continue to make sense

  • You really are great at simplifying these instructions. Thanks

  • THANK YOU SOOO MUCH)) YOU ARE VERYY GOOD

  • @irabay3 Thank you!

  • I did it!!! Yay me!!! Thank you so much, very good instructor...

  • @tonie222019 I am glad you got it.

  • Thank you. My niece will love this.

  • yes the other on i tried to do wasn't as easy it did increase up to about 13 or 14 going 2 dc 1 next row 3 and so on, 8 rows of this hat the bottom is perfect size for the baby's feet,

  • Hi thank you for your reply, do you have a baby caccoon, i'm sure i would have to make a larger chain, and more increases can you give me an idea of what i would do. yes my hat is tiny at least i think so, i'm planning on doing a bigger one, for winter and i'm going to put the ear covers on it. i just love this pattern i can follow it easy, thanks so much

  • @myna102 I do not have a cocoon pattern but I do have plenty of hat patterns that would work for a cocoon with some slight modifications like using a larger crochet hook.

  • wow i think i have it, i'm going to be a first time grandma in august, can't wait, this is really small are their heads this small lol it's been 35 years. i'm going to put a ruffle on it, can i make a caccoon, like this and do you have the directions, i didn't have any luck with the last one, thank you

  • @myna102 14 inches is an estimated size. Some may be smaller

  • what brand of yarn is that? it's adorable.

  • how do you add a edging? or the backwards single crochet?

  • thanks for your wonderful explanation I made a beanie for my child which i am expecting this winter :):)

  • Hi theresa. I have a question for you. I wanna make a beanie cap for my friends son. Which he cant wear til this winter, because he will be born in July I was wondering what size hook you think I should use to make a beanie for a 5month old? He should be around that age when It starts getting cold

  • @ThingTwo1126 You may want to make it with 4 ply yarn, size H hook, since a larger hook will make it lighter with larger holes. 3-6 Months - Head Circumference: 14-17"

  • @tjw1963 Thank you Im working on it now haha

  • Comment removed

  • just one question on the first set of instructions- I get HDC 11 times, but not quite sure what i'm supposed to be HDC'ing into! What exactly is the loop that you go into?

  • one question- what do you mean in the first set of instructions when you say, HDC 11 into the loop? what is the loop?

  • Im so happy I learned how to Crochet acouple of years ago. Im having a grandbaby coming this fall. Im so excited to make some baby hats and shoes ect. Thank you for all your lessons its so helpful.. I made acouple of hats myself on my own and they are ok. But seeing someone like you making it makes it so much useful. I not a good Crochet reading on there lanugage yet. Thanks again my friend., Lynn From Michigan

  • i love your vid thank you so much im going to make a cap for my sis coming baby

  • Its like learning crochet from a favorite Aunt!Thankyou, at last i can understand crochet :-)

  • @pixilily What a nice thing to say! Thank you!

  • @tjw1963 My pleasure Aunt Teresa! x

  • Thanks so much for your vid! This was my first attempt at crochet and my hat came out perfect! I have seen another beanie I would like to try and make, the stitches are much larger (but the hat doesn't look loose) and it looks like the yarn is doubled on the hook, if that makes sense. I can email you a picture if you are able to take a quick look for me. the stitch itself still looks the same but instead of needing to do 20 or so rows it looks like there is only about 7. Thanks ever so much :)

  • Thank you so much for this! I am new at crochet and my beanie came out sooo pretty thanks to you.

  • @cle0fus I am glad it turned out so well for you!

  • Thanks for uploading this video..ur video is very detail oriented and it helps a lot.

  • @lekshmi1012 You are welcome!

  • For a head size of approximately 15-16inches...what size hook do you recommend?

  • Hi dear, what a measurement for G hook? In my country, I only can find a hook with the size like 1.25mm, 1.75mm, 3mm etc.

  • you are always the best Theresa.

i don't understand why some can't follow instructions and pay attention.

when your videos are the best

  • this was a very easy to follow tutorial. so much easier than following the instructions in those expensive craft store books. wish I had discovered your tutorial before wasting my money!!!

  • In Rd. 3 and 4 she says both will end up with 36 stitches. That's can't be right, if she added in two HDS in every other st in Rd. 3. Mine comes up short each time and I have to do more than that in Rd. 4.

  • @ppmharley Round 2 is 24 stitches. Working in every other stitch is going to be an additional 12 stitches. 24+12 =36 stitches for round 3 and 4. It is not necessary for the stitches to be exact if you are off a few stitches. If you need more, work more. If you need less, work less. If the size of the cap is close to what you need, the exact count does not matter.

  • Im gonna have to watch this 600 times. Im so confused. Yours looks flat and round and mine looks like a beanie for a thumb. Am I making the stitches too tight or something? But other than that, thank you so much! :)

  • Thank you very much for this easy and well explained tutorial. Love that you share your talent with all of us.

  • The top of my hat is flat not round what did i do wrong?

  • @77hkr You must be continuing to work increase stitches and rounds instead of stopping.

  • Hello, how long is it supposed to be for an 11 year old kid?

  • @wecberty7777 You would need to have an idea of the size head you are making it for.

  • I watched this video several times and I finally know how to do it. Thank you!

  • @wecberty7777 You are welcome! :)

  • I just started crocheting about 2 weeks ago. I've made a baby-doll blanket for my son's doll, started a scarf, and am now working on this hat! The video and instructions are great! It does go in slow-mo for some portions...but works for being able to see what you're doing. So, I'm using a slightly smaller needle and my hat is actually coming out larger! Sure it's my mistake...but it's still coming out nice especially considering it's my first attempt at a hat! Thanks!

  • Not to bug you and all but I tried a bigger needle and I'm sure I'm doing the right increase stitch. Is there anything wrong? Can I do the same method exept doing the single stitch? Well, the video kinda helped me.

  • @wecberty7777 To work an increase, you will work two stitches in the same stitch.

  • Not to bug you and all but I tried a bigger needle and I'm sure I'm doing the right increase stitch. Is there anything wrong? Can I do the same method exept doing the single stitch?

  • every time I try this, my beenie comes out too small. Don't get it!!! Also, a little bit too fast, some people are beginners.

  • every time I try this, my beenie comes out too small. Don't get it!!! Also, a little bit too fast, some people are beginners.

  • @wecberty7777 It could be that you are using a smaller crochet hook or you have possibly missed some of the increase stitches. Since you are new, you may want to become familiar with the basic stitches first and then come back to the cap again.

  • every time I try this, my beenie comes out too small. Don't get it!!!

  • I was able to make this hat....it was actually quite simple and came out awesome. Thanks so much for the time and effort that you put in to these tutorials. It's like having my own private lessons!! I went from the frustration of pulling out three different hats that didn't come out quite right to a crochet pro thanks to you.

  • Thanks heaps...i tried this one and it came out a little bit wide for me but that's ok cause my little cousin can always grow into it! Awesome instructions! Thank you!

  • Thank you so much for your wonderful detailed video and instruction. I just finished the Beanie Baby Cap for my granddaughter Kimai. She is going to be so warm and look so sweet and loved wearing the cap that her Mi Mi made. I'm looking for my next video/instruction on how to make my other granddaughter (almost 2) a cap as well. And my 7 year old grandson, Jeremiah as well.

  • I've tried playing this video several times and for some reason it plays in slow motion. Is anyone else having this same problem? I'd like to try this hat but I cannot get the video to play properly and I'd like to see what is meant "in-between each HDC".

  • @greenheatherc I just checked the video and it is playing in normal speed.

  • @greenheatherc she slows it down part-way through so you can see what she's doing. Other than that, full speed. I think "in-between" just means two in each space between the HDC, because we need to increase the work. So if l = an in-between stitch and o = HDC in the row below, it would look like this ----> lollollollollollollollol <--- lol

  • @greenheatherc Yeah Its in slow motion

  • Hi, Theresa! :) Can you please make a tutorial on how to make a Santa Dog Hat before Christmas? Pleeeeeease I want to make it as a Christmas gift for my aunt and her little pup! :D Thanks! ~Destanie, 12 yrs old so please make it kinda simple

  • @jordanjansenluvr2010 I do have a pixie cap posted with 4 different sizes. The smallest cap should work for a dog.

  • I liked ur baby beanie cap...i want to make it for infant, how many rounds and stitches i need? please help.

  • @Mitushi17 A toadstool sounds so cute!!

  • I just made this beanie yesterday and it was my first attempt at making something other than a small blanket and it came out great! Thank you, thank you, thank you! Sometimes just reading instructions is hard when you a first learning, it was nice to see someone actually doing it :)

  • what age will this fit?

  • @hangmans8 Approximately a 14 inch head.

  • thanks Tereasa

  • @Kristonia69 You are welcome! :)

  • @tjw1963 I'll have to post the pics of how mine turned out on facebook. My youngest son was Toadstool for Halloween. The hat worked perfect.

  • Also, I made this beanie cap yesterday, it came out PERFECT. Thank you so much for your video tutorial. I would have never been able to make the cap without your help!! Thanks again.

How do I make a larger cap for a toddler? The hat was a little small for my son? What rounds and stiches do I increase?

  • @christymariebrown The easiest way to make a crochet piece larger is to use a larger crochet hook and yarn. There will be trial and error with increase stitches and rounds in achieving the correct size.

  • I would like to make a 16 inch and an 18 inch beanie, how do I know how many stitches and rounds to increase? Help please.

  • Comment removed

  • @tristamorgan25 The easiest way to make a project larger is to use a larger crochet hook. I have many styles and size hats posted here on my channel. You can find the hat playlist on my main channel page by clicking on "playlist"

  • Theresa... you rock! I followed your instructions step by step... and the final product is amazingly beautiful. I made the flower you taught in another video and I put it on the side of the baby beanie hat to make it even cuter. This is the first time I crochet... believe it or not! You are the best teacher!!!! Thanks!

  • @NickyMercado You are catching on really fast! Keep up the good work!

  • I need more like a 18 inch beanie..How do I do that??

  • @jennylokz More increase stitches and rounds.

  • everytime i do this it never looks like that

  • I'm so lame. I'm so confused how to do step 5. You start out doing one HDC in the first to stitches and then increase it to 2. But I'm not following where you go from there. Do I increase my stitches every 3 stitches? So go from 2 to 3 and so on? Or do I follow the pattern of 1 HDC every two stitches and the 2 HDC? Could you please help me out? I'm a beginner so am not the most familiar with terms either.

  • Teresa, I cannot thank you enough for all of your wonderful videos -- they have been so helpful to me! I made the adult-size beanie (1/2 double crochet) and I love it, but I am not sure if I was joining correctly at the end of each row. Do you have a specific video on joining 1/2 double crochet? I noticed for the baby's hat you do not join -- I think I will try this one next. Thank you again!

  • I need help!! When I get to step 6 my hate has ripples in it what am I doing wrong??

  • I took a one our one on one lesson with a crochet instructor, but to be honest I have learned way more from you and your videos. How can I make this hat just a little bit bigger, about two inches or so? I have already used a larger hook, but I'd still like it to be a bit bigger. Any suggestions?

  • @dreamwishlove I suggest that you do one more increase round. Don't worry about the exact number of stitches on each round. The cap will even out as long as the increase stitches are placed evenly around. 1 HDC in-between each of the next 3 st's, HDC INC in next st; continue around to beg marker.

  • Hey teresa,Iam having trouble with the hook here..Do you know the numbers for the hook instead of alphabets 'cuz in my country it's sold with numbers, please help me,thanks.

  • @Bufurzone I do have a chart on my crochet blog. crochet-mania.blogspot.com/2008/03/blog-post_18.html

  • @tjw1963 Thanks a lot!

  • @tjw1963 Thanks a lot, I made 2 pairs of booties with the 4.50 size hook for my niece what I wanna know wether the size'll go the same for a dress and cap?

  • Lindo me encantó. Un abrazo a la distancia desde Lima Perú.

    Grace.

  • Hi Teresa! Why do you stop increasing after round 5? Thanks! Im currently working on this beanie. Im making it for my baby who is due Aug. 26!!

  • Ohh thank you so much for an easy to understand demonstration. I feel pretty confident after viewing your video and will definitely be back for more!

  • @AngelFish61983 Thank you.

  • i love this hat, it's fast and pretty. the only thing i'm wondering if it's possible to make it for a bigger size head. I need to make it for a 8 month old baby, and this one is quite small. can u help me?

  • Im a little confused on making beanies if i have a 13-14 inch head newborn for example i would reduce the beanie to 11.5 inches wright thats what i saw on your Head Sizes for Crochet Hats measurments but what about 14-17 would i also reduce it since it stretches? Who do u go about that if you dont have the head size

  • This is awesome! I don't see how you were able to fit 11 hdc in that tiny hole though!

  • @33Muslimah It can be done. Keep practicing and it all makes sense.

  • so i had such a good response on this hat, and my friend wants one too, how can i make it bigger for an adult woman? this pattern is so easy

  • @ThingTwo1126 I have several adult size caps posted. I will send you the link.

  • Tremendously helpful. Thank you for the time and effort you put into sharing this.

  • @carlitadee Thank you. :)

  • awesome video. Made my first successful beanie for my soon to come baby girl with this video. Nice to make your baby hand made stuff with nice material at a nice price that looks good.

    Thanks!

  • @Parkourohm Thank you. Congratulations on your expected baby girl!!

  • Thank you. Yours was very easy to follow...I appreciate your doing this for us "beginners"

    Kelly

  • @kcolleen48 You are welcome.

  • Thanks i made this beanie and i think it was a little big because the time i was done it fit my nephew who was two but i didnt mind i gave it to him and he loves it thanks so much

  • Thank you so very much for the video, my beanies turned out great!!

  • @Hehn08 Thank you. :)

  • thank you so much for making this video :)

  • Thanks to your video my ma ma made 2 hats for my baby while she was here visiting. What a great gift! Love them!

  • Thank you so much for making this video!! I love how you slow it down to show each stitch! My hat came out perfect the first time!

  • I appreciate the comment. It is great to hear your hat came out so well.

  • Hi. I feel like you're my new best friend! haha I Love the wonderful videos. I just made this in baby yellow, sooo cute . Thanks a million!!

  • You are welcome. I wish you much continued success with crochet.

  • Since I started crocheting about 4 months ago, I have been coming to your site every time. I just love how you explain everything. You are very easy to follow. THANK YOU

  • I appreciate the comment, thank you.

  • About what age range is this size hat for?

  • @evilanjell it is for a 14 inch/35 CM head

  • hello i have a question? from the beginning i havent heard you say it but is there a one chain up in between each row? thank you

  • Thank you for this helpful video! I have made two so far. Do you know how I could add small bear ears on the top. I bought one from a lady when my son was born and it is sooo cute. Thanks again!

  • I've finished 3 of these beanies for my 3 month old son but I want to add ear flaps. I can only find that you have single crochet ear flaps and i would like to do half double ear flaps.

  • You can work the pattern the same and replace with HDC instead of SC.

  • How do you hold your hook? the way you stitch looks VERY fluid.

  • I will send you the link for the video I have.

  • so im just starting to crochet, my sister is expecting a baby boy in june, and i want to make her something easy i guess since im new to crocheting cna you help me with making something this looks easy but im a little confused, haha, sorry

  • you can search "how to crochet a hat" in youtube and threadbanger's video on how to make a beanie is very simple, i just started yesterday and i made one today! also, youtube / google how to single stictch crochet and you can learn. It's very easy.

  • yeah i found out how to make one, i just wanted to make one for my nephew who is going to be here in june so i wanted a small thing to go on i guess haha, thanks though

  • Hi Teresa,

I was wondering if this hat would fit a 6-8 month old baby? And also something I find confusing is the sizes of hooks... Here in the U.K. our hooks are gauged by mm and most of the time I tend to use a 4.00mm hook. Is this a similar size to your hook?

    Lisa xx

  • What brand and color is this yarn? I think it's a beautiful color of yarn and would love to get several skeins of the color.

  • It is the Red Heart baby weight yarn, 3-ply. I no longer have the label to know the color. I do believe they have a similar color still on the market.

  • I would like to make a beanie for my brother, can i just keep on increasing intil it fits him??

  • How big is your brothers head?

  • This is only my 3rd day crocheting and I was able to make this hat following the directions. Thanks very much for the pattern and such clear directions.

  • You are welcome. I appreciate the comment.

  • is it possible that you could slow this down at the beginning a little more?? thank you so much!!

  • I want to make diffrent sized beanies im so confused on gauging the size. Will the last row of increase be the same size as my very last row of my beanie?

  • It will expand a little bit once you stop increasing. After about 5 rounds, you will have an idea what size head the hat will fit. When you modify the pattern, there will be some trial and error that comes along with finding a custom fit and size.

  • Hi Teresa I would like to know what brand yarn would be best to use when making a baby cap or any baby project so that it would be a soft material on the babies skin? Luv this video will be trying this.

  • Usually baby yarn of any brand is pretty soft. Caron is a very soft yarn.
