This is my fav video of J.J. because of the dance routines, I remember back in the day hating MTV & BET so much because they didn't show this as much as they should have. M.J. & J.J. have always paid Honor 2 all the Pioneers that paved the way 4 them & others. Such Appreciation 4 some of the Greats, now & days there's no recognition from singers (not Artist) 2 their past, it's all about me, I did it all on my own. Not true! Everybody have bitten off some1 Genius work, give credit where it is do.
Very fabulous past 40 as she was in her 60's here! I just hope I can do all she did and look that great at 60...50..40...back then...wow!!! 60's just ain't for sittin' on the porch swattin' flies any more. 60 year olds are doing more than some 20/30 year olds I know!!!
everyone, do you agree that we should encourage people like janet jackson now to make another hit so that people like him can bring back real music! the "music" that all the auto tune and stuff from lady gaga etc that dosent even make sense must be replaced back with real music from people like janet jackson!
Man...Janet is one hell of an artist. She is so real, exciting, and dynamic. It's interesting how her music fits the era in which she creates it, but it also seems ahead of its time b/c you can still enjoy it today.
Sorry it was late at night and I was getting sleepy. I meant to say that this track was released when New Jack Swing music was really popular.
It sounds like a New Jack Swing track! Secondly I meant to add that I wish Michael Jackson was in the is video as well as a dancer of somekind. The Video is near prefection already, but the addition of Michael Jackson would have made it so....
@redjam40 there is no such thing as perfection. thats why ppl like mj were perfectionist, they always felt that it wasnt right. and no the video is great they way it is. just Janet because she is a solo artist.
@luv4uification - I get the feeling that you think that I am against Janet Jackson. I am Not. I have been to see her Live in London, England during her Rhythm Nation Tour.I think she is a fantastic artist. But I just would have LOVE to seen brother and sister on this video as well.as they were during the video AND MAKING of SCREAM. I think that JANET & MICHAEL really got on
I love this video though. I have nothing against Janet what so ever. She is a first class artist. But I love Michael....
What happend to the Heavy D part? It's like a Thanksgiving meal that somebody forgot the cranberry sauce. There's a lot of great stuff here but ya still notice something's missing.
Cab Calloway?! OMG This is my all time favorite music video EVER! I love the 20s and Janet and music and dance and a good story...How can you not love this video?
@naturaluv85 Janet released a big tune from the New Jack Swing era and the the video is out of this world... My only wish was that her Michael was NOT in this video... Other than that it near prefection
she is the only Jackson i could ever get into. she was the only one not crazy. i could definitely see her kicking it with the girls from around the way, and entertain the elite society.
One of my favorite reasons to watch Janet Jackson videos is the dancing! Epic dancing. This song is so bright, I like it. Though she reminded me of MJ in smooth criminal :D So I'm going to watch that video next (it, too, has epic dancing) hhaha :D
Pssst..don't miss the guy Vogue-ing towards the end!! (He slides by your screen at 5:54. And yes this came out right before Madonna's Vogue video!!) So many dance styles (real old to new) in this video. Wonderful!!!
this was my shit when I was a kid I was 10 years old when this video came out it seems like just yesterday I was watching this on BET'S video soul back when BET was fun to watch lol. I use to love when she breaks it down on the hopscotch lol Im glad im an 80's baby 1980 to be exact
Thank you for uploading this video. I have always loved it as it pays great homage to the greatest dancers America ever had; and new ones as well. Julien Temple was the video man..Janet was as lovely and entertaining as ever. And every time I hear this song I want to sing and dance! Can't say that even about 10% of the music today...
O my gosh when she started dancing with the other woman at 3:03 it reminded me so much of michael dancing in black or white video in the middle of the street with the indian woman
@headacherack Masterpiece it is. Its never framed as such but this video is in the category with Thriller as far as originality, choreography, lyrics, plot line etc. Love the tributes Sid,Cab,and the Nicholas Bros. YouTube these stars to anyone not familiar with their work. Great gesture on Janet's part. Lightning struck twice in that family.
this is one of my favorite videos by Janet i love her so much she's definitely my idol in all ways and i love the part when she danced with my love Cyd Charisse it was so cute :) RIP The hair style she had too when she came out of the car i wore my hair like that to school and people loved it if only they knew who it was inspired by :) my bang was on the right side though lol aww she looks just like MJ at the end sleeping :) RIP HERO
Do they even make videos of this magnatude any more? I know they CGI the shit outta movies. But This shows talent, from Janet all the way down to the people making costumes and editing the video. When I bought this cassette that was money well spent and still enjoying that purchase
Cab Calloway giving the watch to Janet symbolized the beginning of a new era in time within music with the next upcoming generation. He was giving her his mantle, if you will; passing the torch.
Here are some technical facts. This video was shot in February 1990 and premiered on the screen of a Rhythm Nation 1814 tour date on March 23, 1990. The song itself was originally recorded in February 1989 at Flyte Tyme, Minneapolis and this remix was recorded with Heavy D in January 1990 at Flyte Tyme's then new Edina, MN studios.
I had completely forgotten that The Greatest dancers of the 20th century, The Nicholas Brothers, and the legendary Cab Calloway and Cyd Charisse were in this video. Back then when I was 18, I always wondered who these 'old people' were in this video
i will neva get tired of dis video or janet her self i noe da whole video by heart literally!and da whole concept of dis video was amazin, she reallii truley is a icon "Go Janet Go Janet"
I have always loved this video, always been my fav with Janet. The dance moves are amazing and the whole story is fun. Love it, love it, love it!!!!!
Oh no, I am literally laughing out loud...........that is too funny. I'm sure people were looking at you like you were crazy, I would've loved to have seen that :)
I won'tknow the reaction till next week when I back because when I did it I never looked back, lo. Although,I did hear one guy mumble," what the f%ck" as I went by him :>)
OMG I am on the phone with my cousin, I just told her what you did and the both of us were laughing so hard................let me know next week what happens when you return to the barber shop :)
Man, what is the name of that dance that Janet does starting at 1:55 with the other girls and that little boy (who I thnk is Brandon Adams from the Moonwalker movie) on the stairs? It ranks up there with the late 80s moves like Roger Rabbit, Robocop, and Running Man
I feel like this is a happier version of MJ's smooth Criminal video. I don't like to compare the two of them to each other but in my mind this has a lot of similarities. I like both videos with out a doubt, but i think this one has more good dance moves in it. People might think that's crazy but it's my opinion and we all know what opinions are like.....
Cyd Charisse looks amazing and she can still dance. You younger people want to see great dancing check her out in some of her old movies. They probably have some here.
One of the greatest music videos ever! I love the icons of my generation. How boring my childhood and teenage years would have been without Janet, Michael, Prince, Madonna!! The greats!
Cab Calloway, The Nicholas brothers dancing! (One who was married to Dorothy Dandridge and on the Five Heartbeats movie). This was a tribute to many great people that I didin't even realize it! I was like 12 when this came out. And the dancing! Janet & Michael really brought dancing to videos. PERIOD!
I wish they would put up the full version with Heavy D (R.I.P.) doing the break it down.

@Waikhru12345
Yeah, it's kinda crazy! The choreagraphy in Smooth Criminal is like a 1000 times better .. IMO ;)
But I see what you mean 'comparing' them .. Black Cat and Dirty Diana has a lot of similarities as well :)

@YoMissTinkerbell I guess what I am comparing are the obvious similarities, especially the way they're dressed. Two excellent videos.

Did you know Janet Jackson's Rythm Nation video was Michael Jackson's idea.

The military concept, not the video :)

PERIOD!
