I'm german and we( bunch of soon-to-be vocal coaches) do a project" Winterreise".
I couldn't find a documentary in german, but at least 3 in English, loaded up by an American and a Spaniard. Shameful fact indeed. So many thanks to those kind and understanding "foreigners" who hold our german speaking musical culture in honour while we fail to do so.

I am from the direct line of Franz's family and strangely have musical talent also! I am looking to trace this back in some detail as our family tree was destroyed. Does anyone have any suggestions, or know of other documentaries to help me please?
They treatt them like utter tramps in their lifes and then use them to make money for their tourist trade in their death!!!!!!!!! Ah!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Franz we love you..Music about the frailty of life not its pomp and glamour.
@willb48 what do you mean "one more year". Whose symphony is greater than the last two he wrote? Whose piano soanta is greater the last three he wrote? Whose chamber music work is greater than the String quintet? Whose songs are greater than his last compositions? Who wrote a greater work for four hand than the F minor? SChubert DID have that one last year you asked for and he reached the apex - up there with a couple of others and in some ways beyond all.
@sorim1967 to answer your first two questions, i would most likely say Beethoven - the 9th was regarded by all of the great composers after him to be THE ultimate manifestation of the symphony. and the Hammerklavier Sonata pushes and expands the form of the sonata way beyond its typical structure. however yes, Schuberts quartets and songs are sublime! Beethoven himself said of Schubert's music "he has the devine spark".
@willb48 have to disagree about greatest composer, because to compare them all is not fair or equil. Chopin was the master of composing for the piano, Mozart and Beethoven were probably the best overall composers (i mean composing in all forms), Liszt was the greatest pianist, Bach was the master of the fugue. but Schubert, he was the master of the song, his music has wonderful singing lines, his final sonatas are profound. but i cant call him the 'greatest'. but defenately one of the masters
I am an ELCA Lutheran from South Carolina. We have 3 songs by Schubert from Deutsche Messe in Evangelical Lutheran Worship in the Service Music section: Kyrie (#152), Holy, Holy, Holy (Acclamation and Amen) (#190), & Jesus, Lamb of God (#199). Just thought I'd share.
my last name is schubert, great great grandad is strait from austria, and Franz Schubert is somewhere around my Great x3 or 4 Uncle and yea he never had children, he was in love w/ a woman from the distance, but most historians also believe he was bisexual and attracted to many of the men that were his close friends
my brother has the exact same characteristics of franz schubert but not bisexual and not quite that level of musical genius, not yet
I suggest, for everybody who loves Schubert to watch, if one can, the brilliant mini tv-series "Mit meinen heissen Tränen" (with my burning tears). Unfortunately AFAIK it is only available in German. But if you run in it, really recommendable.
Hey Im from Canada..You know if theres any way i can see it?
Ive heard of Schubert long before and I just heard a song by him when i went to a Marilyn Manson concert.(Manson uses "piano trio in E flat" as an intro on his tour for his song "If i was your vampire".)
Ever since i heard that track, im starting to gain a high interest in his work and history!
Schubert is still living through his compositions and he will continue to live!

Did Scubert have children?

No, he didn't. He died at the age of 31, just a year and a half after Beethoven.
chopinalpiano 4 years ago
Yea, I was just wondering because Enyaangel said that his friend is a decendant of Schubert. Schubert is buried directly beside Beethoven.

@Enyaangel Franz Schubert had NO children
