The stunt driver in the blue pontiac is Bill Hickman. He did the stunt driving in Bullitt and French Connection. Great car chase!!! In my opinion, it is #2 all time. Comes in a close second behind Bullitt. What makes this one so good is that it is like Bullitt and French Connection rolled into one.
For sum reason,,,i rank this chase higher than Bullitt,,,maybe its because imma Pontiac lover,,,but that 455 under the hood of that Grandville wasnt playin!,,,Love both movies,,,but 7up's Rock!
Hi guys I've read your comments and have 2 questions:
1) What is a "parkway"? I know highway is rural, and a freeway is an urban motorway, what sort of road is what u call "parkway"?
2) About big american bouncy cars from the 70's and 80's: Normal european cars made between 1960-2010 do not bounce like in the american car chases films from the 1960's-1980's, except for an old Volvo 244 (1980 model), which I sometimes drive, and the bouncy effect just feels great, I love it :D What's the deal?
The bus would not be allowed on the palisades parkway either. In the 70s that highway was very narrow with a curb right off each lane and zero shoulder. Didn't they have spike strips back then?, referring to the keystone cops on the bridge
what bridge were they crossing when they left nyc....? was it up the taconic state pkwy...because millwood and briarcliff manor are in weschester cty.....i heard people say it was the pallasdes...but road sign at 9:08 would say weschester cty
@richmjr67 The bridge is the George Washington bridge. The movie would have you believe they are heading North on the Palisades Parkway. However, the Millwood/Briarcliff Manor sign prove they are in fact filming on the Taconic Parkway.
The other major blunder concerns the fact Roy Schnieder plows into the back of a semi as he exits the Parkway. No commercial vehicles are allowed on any Parkway in NY or NJ.(South Jersey does have an exception to this rule on the Garden State Pkwy, I think).
That pontiac ventura was NEVER that fast, but i liked teh fact they put the bullit sound effects to it nice. i think the getaway driver in the other car was the driver from bullitt!!!! in the dodge charger.

the way those cars handle is downright scary! the way they entered the first part of the highway bouncing around like that!
