The Grand Daddy of 'em all....some may argue that either Galaxy Game, Computer Space or Pong is the grand daddy. Granted they came first but they were not the mega hit that this game was.
God damn this brings back memories. I haven't gazed into one of these screens since the mid 80s! Those colors, the sound affects...all that's missing is the sound of other video games in the background, people talking, the smell of cigarettes and cloves, cute chicks hanging around. I used to love the arcades!
Yes, let's get rid of all that nasty 3D rendering and those complex games with plot lines and scripting. Let's go back to playing nothing but space invader and pacman clones because after all it only caused the video game industry in America to literally die from 1983 to 1985 and almost killed it completely. Nostalgia is great, but don't let it cloud your vision.
@Kr8mer Then enlighten me to what actually caused The Crash, if it wasn't an oversaturated market filled with too many systems with poorly produced clones and ports.
Haven't heard those sounds for a long time. I never could hit that saucer. I remember playing it when it first came out to the arcades. What a time that was.
I'm almost 32. I think the best games were made in the 70's & 80's. By the mid most 90's, games just didn't seem as fun. Mortal Kombat was the last Arcade game I really liked. Occasionally there are some good games on Xbox or Wii. Just because there is technology to make games look fancy or complicated doesn't mean they always have to. I think there are game possibilities that haven't been explored because they avoid trying to make games simple these days. Fun is what's most important.
I was not born around the time this game came out but I bought Taito Legends for the PS2 and when I played this game, I could not put it down. It was great.
Glad to hear it! I was born the year Space Invaders came about, but haven't seen it in an arcade in a long time. It would be great to see it again someday.
The world record is 56,000 although I have gotten 800,000 myself. I find it real easy. Just always shoot out the coloumn furest left. and on the first round leave 1 invader left, and destroy your own barriers. Then take out the last one and repeat. It does get tiring after a while. And it's hard to use the bathroom at the same time.
The "song" in the background makes me fell pretty oppressed! It looks like the game is saying "You'd better shoot them quick... You'd better do it faster... If you won't make it... You know what will happen... Don't you?... Don't you?... Don't you?..."
I rememner when there was only 2 aliens left, that they would move at the same speed as the cannon, and when there was just 1 alien left it would move twice the speed as the cannon. The aliens on the online games don't move at the same speed. There's nothing like the original.
LOL! I rember standing on a milk create when I was a kid playing this game! What fun it was for the time! I still gotta rate it one of the most frustrating games of all time! It will piss you off!
@genegene002 It pissed me off because I moved the joystick but nothing happened. Not sure if that was early technology or an actual design to make you lose your money faster.
@tetsunosuke90 funny how a 20+ year old game contains more charm than most of the stuff released nowadays... though the same thing could be said about all classic games. But Space Invaders is special.
si!!!!!!!e quello originale...della mia infanzia 50 o 100 £ a partita.

@LedWilde
The thing is back then they broke new ground and pushed the envelope of development. It was all new and uncharted territory.
Today it's way too often the visuals that impress the players rather than the concept or gameplay.
