Although a slightly different generation I've always thought that Kate Bush was our UK's Bjork, insane, a truly original style and a voice which almost (I'll be honest here) gets annoying but actually ends up being great. I do think the generational thing's true, I love both but prefer Bjork, me ma prefer's Kate.
The few Bjork interviews I read, she usually says something like she used to fall asleep with her ghetto blaster playing Kate Bush, meaning it was magical or dream like of course, not boring.;)
i can remember first hearing kate bush aged 7 in the late 70's early 80's on top of the pops singing wow. And i have listened to her music all through my life as some one said she is a preferred taste and yes i too get ridiculed by my wife for listening to her music even now she's saying to me as im typing "why are you writing on there no body cares"maybe not but i still love Kate's music and theres nothing wrong with a bit of nostalgia.And what does she known she liked new kids on the block !.
She was (still is) so creative, and also has a thing or two to say to the world...and it actually would have taken some guts to write this song, to do a video like this. Pacifism is not without risk...

Always loved Kate Bush which many aquaintances find weird as I'm a bit of a rocker and metal lover at heart. But i've met just as many who love Kate and her music. She is a one-off genius - a philosopher as good as any before her- but with songs. It's like your mum telling you a bed time story but about reality, which can be harsh and cruel, but she delivers it with beauty xx

What I adore so much about Kate is her unabashed individuality. It is so obvious that she is not trying to live up to someone else's agenda... she's just singing the muic she hears in her soul, and it is beautiful. Thank God for her bravery!

I think this is one of KB's best videos. It is to the point. Not glossy, not glorifying. A bit ragged round the edges, but, works within the theme of the futility of war. And her eyes blinking in sinc with gun breech, is a stroke of genius. There are lots of "pretty" vids out there for those who want something that looks slick and cosmetic. Kate's videos are not like that. She's different, not for the sake of being different, but for the sake of staying true to HER vision.
Got to defend comment that this video is naff. No way - more case you didn't get what the song was about as the video quite simple but brilliantly conveys it: the sense of longing, loss and waste. Your confusion re,. the eyes - quite simple eyes are used to see/dream. Eyes shutting sounds like the shutter of a camera or could that be the breech of a rifle? Think about it and read the lyrics.
I've loved this song for last 12 years, and this is the first time I saw the video. I am disappointed, it's absolutely not how I imagined it, the song is very smooth and romantic, and video is ridiculous, Kate pulls her faces and looks like comic, it doesn't match the atmosphere of the song at all... :(

Running Up That Hill, Cloudbusting, Army Dreamers... Trouble is, which one is best?
I agree with this song completely, Running Up That Hill has the best 'background' sound inside the song and Cloudbusting takes me to a different world... My head can't handle all this good music!

My wife divorced me five months ago, after eleven years... she never could understand my love for this kind of music. I kept my love for Kate's work a secret from her lest she ridicule it, although early on I did play a compilation video of Bjork's work for her (just once)... ever since then the question has been "Are still listening to that 'screaming girl'?" Thank goodness I can now listen to "that screaming girl" and my beloved Kate as much as I want to...

It was probably one of those insecure, controlling types but I'm sure there's more to the story than that. Who knows, but my husband & I have been married 13 years & counting and the only rule we have is "no BAD music LOUD" lol... @Bradleybox1988 similar experience here. when I played Kate´s Wuthering Heights to my sister, she was like "oh, God" and said it sounded like a Chinese folk song (not that she ever heard any)... but I was very pleased to find out that my dad used to listen to Kate when he was younger... I must take after him :)

I think that lots of people in the world who don't know Kate's music yet will find it when they least expect it... like love. I play Kate's songs when my daughters (19 and 20) are around, hoping it will sink in... :)
