This album is terrifically underrated. I know why it is, and I do not not fault people who are horrified by the sound, but I love how confrontational this is. I am skeptical as anyone else when I hear that an album has been excused as a "fuck you" to a record label, but the videos for this, "Weight of the World" and "Pressure" make it CRYSTAL CLEAR that this was the case. I love the songs "Pressure" and "I've Got A Problem" and the videos for WOTW and POTS sold me on them, too..great concept LP
@horseytown I read about the album before owning it and so I put it off for some time while I collected the rest of Neil's work. When I finally heard the stripped down electro-punk power trio guitar/CAPITAL 'D' DRUMS/keyboard... I was confused... how was this the "commercial" sounding album I had read about over the years? Commercial music isn't this angry... commercial music is never this good.
Neil mocks coporatism and some trends but still makes it good. He probably does not own everything he created. Remember that Michael Jackson owned much of the Beatles catalogue. Corporations rule. Rollerball anyone?
lol,I beleive this was one of the recordings he did to get outa his Geffen contract!,later after sued Neil saying that this music was "unrepresenting of Himself".didnt want to have "crazy Horse"affiliated,& picked up three "rock& roll" dudes wearing Pink!...Look Like they had the same choreographer as "Hot for Teacher",lol!... did that dude just step in Dog shit?!?...
this is some fucked up drum machine sounding weird Neil young from the 80's kinda music, but some how i still love it. It also seems a little out of character.
I don't know why people hate Landing on Water so much. There are great songs on there (Pressure, Hippie Dream). The main things wrong with are the drums mixed way too high.
Whenever I see his videos from this era I think of them as a big middle finger to David Geffen. And He had it coming. I love every thing Neils ever done. Asshole Geffen thinks He owns the beach in Malibu.
This is fantastic, but nutty, Neil Young in his early 80's electronic era. Some interesting tidbits of info: At 1:27, the dancer on the left is Russ Tamblyn, famous from the film West Side Story as Riff, leader of the Jets gang, and father of actress Amber Tamblyn. Also, at 3:27, in the background behind Neil, tied up to Pier 32 in San Francisco, is the U.S. Battleship New Jersey.

I admire the crazy musical genres he did back then. He had balls....and still does. Neil is my musical god.

I can't believe Neil Young put this out. This is horrendous. One of the worst songs I've ever heard

I bet he was on alot of drugs when he did this
MAG00GE 3 years ago
that's the thing. He cut back on drugs and the 80s was a mess. He didn't do a single awesome album until Freedom in 89.

never have heard this song before, and been listening to his music forever, it's quite humorous that he's in it doing the dancing, love it!

I had no idea Neil did anything like this, with synthesizers etc, yet I have to admit its a catchy song and I quite like it
