WOW, uber rare stuff HERE !!! Bob Imbody's H/S black 72 Mustang covertible @ the 1:46 mark. Ken Shawver's ALL-AMERICAN '55 Chevy @ 3:15. Dick Sperry's SS/KA Chevelle vs. LeRoy Hoaglin's E/S Camaro @ 3:37. More Sperry @ 4:27. More of Shawver and Imbody in there too. You can tell Bob's Mustang by the back-up lights he always had on when going down-track. He had an ON/OFF switch under the dash for 'em...
i raced there in 1974-75. i remember many of the cars in the video, the shut-down area was a little too short! don garlits and tommy ivo raced there, i think tommy was the other rail in the video. the '55 chevy belonged to kenny shawver, the black '68 camaro was leroy hoaglin, the dodge demon from mc feeter's chrysler belonged to chip ? from defiance, ohio. dave bidlack had the dark olds 442. clifford hunt had the ford bronco, from continental. those days before gas went up to $.65 per gallon!
I was very young but I remember my sister and her boyfriend took me on several occasions. I was born in 74 so it had to be 79 or 80 when I was there. I remember the tower. Very cool. If I recall you turn right next to the Van Del Drive In and it was down the road,
Very Cool!!!! At one point it was called Wayne Trail Dragway, I think, just before it closed in 1984. The tower, starting line and partial staging lanes are still there. Thanks for posting the video. I saw my dad's car twice ("The All American" 55 Chevy) . Now my son can see the car going down the track. FYI, I was there that day.....
@Racerdad916 billy: greg dumire and me used to borrow pigs to race greg's '64 impala, my brother steve bought yer dad's '55, kept it a few yrs., then sold it to mike ernsberger in ayersville, he sold it to kirk pickering, from there? mike porter.
I have been trying to find this track on google map, where exactly was it, what road, etc. it was one of a handful of tracks that had grass between the 2 lanes.
This dragstrip was still open in 1981 as I remember going there. I think it closed within a year or 2 after that.Somewhere I have a newspaper clipping from the late 60's (I think), where they extended the dragstrip from 1/8 mile to 1/4 mile.
Where exactly was this located. I am interested in photographing what is still there.
