For all you young bucks and bucketts, check EWF out live before they retire(the founding fathers of the group phillip, verdine and ralph all will turn 60 this year)it will change your life and let you see what we old folks groove to back in the day. I have a 12 year old daughter and she loves this type of music.
You might find it hard to find another band that gives you the same experience brainysnaeha.......but yeah, sometimes other countries (as opposed to the US or the UK) get blocked from all the best stuff. And that just ain't right.
Yeah... what an intro. Just freakin' BRILLIANT phrasing... such a build-up!
I was a snot-nosed, 17 yr. old, White punk, freshly stationed in GY when this came out. I recognized immediately the amazing composition that this song is. The great pauses, the INCREDIBLE percussion and flat-out tightness!
Truly a masterpiece, IMO. Love the sound of all things EW&F to this day. =)
Great intro...this piece had a whole second life as the intro to a local late nignt movie broadcast that aired for years in the Seattle area on Komo channel 4 as the "fourmost movie" usually on Saturday/Sunday nights at 11:30 after the news.
I'm really glad the interlude is also posted. EW&F used to fill the spaces between songs with short music pieces, like the one on the end of this one.
hey.... what's with the SUCK it? suck what? it's irrelivent.! dugh. back to the topic at hand.... I thinks this song is great. notice the cover, between the stone pillars, it says, very faintly, " I AM"..... that is G-d's aka YHVH's name. When Moses went up to Mt. Sinai, to recive the 10 commandments, He asked G-d what to call him, essentially, what His name is.... & G-d replied, I AM that I AM. wow.
This person evidently doesn't know good, creativity music. I feel sorry for him or her. Such a disrespect to a group who made music not noise in the 70"s and beyond.
We're playing this in our field show for our high school marching band along with after the love is gone, let's groove, and September (: but to me, they're way to slow of songs for a field show....
@remixme789 That will have to do with the Band Master/Conductor. He or she is in charge of rhythm/pace. If they step it up, it won't be too slow. In the Stone is written so that it can be a marching song.
wow, this brings back stupendous memories of when i was in my little towns marching band, i think we had 7 people and we played this amazing song, although i was not in the band ( i was a drum holder) it aws a very emotional experience, all together i just was to get up and get groovy and shake my tail bone to this song

If ya listen real close at the beginning, the strings are handling the boogie rhythm . That is just too cool!

@jmaxg
Music companies today wanted us to felt like that because they are make music so awful these days.
And that damn copyright reason from sony music and warner music blocked me from listening many of
the earth wind & fire songs!
I'm 17 and i'm listen to EWF since i was 14.
