  • Ken and PC Chris: The Flash and Jaedong of SSBM.

  • Where is the 9th match?

  • Idk, i love mute city, but i can understand it being banned the cars pretty much gave pc the loss without a doubt ken would have lost he was in the middle of being combo'd

  • I remember watching this live.

  • whose the guy isai is hugging?

  • Haha look how happy Isai is at the end!

  • @DontFearTheReeper24 where is he?

  • @flamindemon123 He's the one sitting down hugging the guy in front of him

  • Is counter not allowed?

  • @Koadydb

    What gave you that impression?

It definitely is allowed. If I recall correctly, Ken used it several times in earlier matches. There are no individual moves in Melee that are banned from tournaments. Only things like the Ice Climbers freeze glitch and the like.

  • @Koadydb yea, pc chris banned it

  • @Koadydb most high level players don't use counter, and I'm not sure why. (I'm not a high level player, though, so that may have something to do with it.)

  • @rmontsinger i think its because of the time that marth/roy is vulnerable at the end. the ending lag is unacceptable for high level players

  • 3:33 PWND!!

  • "ahh look at that up smash"

  • i dont think its fair(pun) that people can cheer for a person when that can mess up the other persons game.

  • 2:34 tomahawk?

  • Too bad Mute City is a banned stage now lol.

  • @pyroTHEboy Bleh this game is broken, brawl has alot more

    balancement...

  • @Renkay141 Obvious troll who likes Brawl b/c it makes him believe he's a good player. At the time of this match, Ken AND PC Christ could've 4 stocked your ass easily. Yeah, Brawl did a real nice job balancing metaknight. Every character has an even match up vs him >.>

  • @Renkay141 Brawl is balanced in the way that every character sucks equally... except metaknight because everyone can suck pretty well with him

  • wow...these matches still manage to impress me and i just finished watching falcomst vs dashizwiz

  • wow people are so desparate in this friggen game, no skill watsoever, all he did was spam grab(fail game) and short hop, and hit. other than that I din't see any skill involved

  • @Renkay141 trust me it takes a lot of skill to SHFFL at a constant pace. Especially with fox or falco with their shine.

  • 4:02 wow that guy got HUGGED by Isai/

  • @xYogurt LMAO

  • i feel like these commentators dont even play melee

  • 0:05 Isai leans forward. The set has pleased him.

  • at 3:50 pc had it, he shoulda stayed under and just baired him outta the stage

  • what if one of the guys pressed start

  • Wow 3:42 what a stage save from the ken combo.

  • Goes to show you when the crowd is on your side you will win XD.

  • Classic set

  • Ken truly is (or was) amazing.

  • amazing di by ken, nice wall tech by pc at the end, ken has such good mindgames, and at 3:43 , i would just use B, but w/e i suck.

  • PC officially hates Mute city :D

  • PC CARS.

  • dang i was going for pc but oh well great match :)

  • hmm i dont agree any more lol there both really good and closely matched

  • LMAO i agree with rangerfroglord XD

  • Ken won before GO!

  • i think if ken used fair to nair instead of wanting his ken combo done he would of won earlier lol

  • Let's look for some ooh.

  • wow, 50% from the cars...

  • this is the greatest smash match of all time. dont argue its a fact

  • Even I don't believe that... It's a great old school match, but Melee has progressed in such crazy ways in the three years since this match that the gap is substantial.

  • ya but just think about the time period. with pc rising and ken winning everything and to have the final match of a tournament settled like this is just freakin amazing. and i know everyone has their own opinion but i think this is the best ever

  • certainly one of the most entertaining back and forth, along with most emotional of the peak of smash.

  • i liked mew2king's comeback on shiz. one on yoshi's story marf vs fox

  • @Protoguy1 Skill isn't the only thing that makes a match great.

It's about the hype, intensity, entertainment, etc. I don't really get that anymore from watching Mango destroy everyone with his joke characters. We don't have any big rivalries like Ken/Azen, Ken/PC, M2K/KDJ, anymore. Everyone pretty much knows Mango is better than everyone else.

  • @Protoguy1 I don't actually think that today's pro's are that much better then these players were. Granted, PC Chris is no where near as dominant as he used to be. But thats because he took a long break (I think). The players we are watching now are merely different, not necessarily less evolved.

  • @Protoguy1 i think that these players are very close to the level of play today. Ken has amazing spacing, mindgames, and ability to learn players. if he came back he would be able to learn the new tactics of todays play than he would probably be the best. Mango knows the new tactics and has better tech skill but ken definetly has better mindgames, spacing, and learning ability.

  • @Protoguy1 stfu

  • @tickytoc24 def a monumental match, being on MLG's main stage was a huge step for melee

  • 3:41 lol ken like di out of this PC

  • LMAO Isai at the end

  • bear hug from isai

  • PC almost had it... if only those cars didn't juggle him up to 50% lol. But no johns...

  • i dont understand, so who is the completly winner?

  • Ken (Marth)

  • God, I've been looking for this video for such a long time.

    Favorited*

  • lol the commentary explained that xD

  • 1:09 - Isai is watching.

    "ISAI ARE YOU WATCHING

    ISAI ARE YOU WATCHING"

  • i love his bear hug at the end

  • One of my favorite Melee matches ever.

  • The Comentaters for this match flop ALOT

  • this last match was soo INTENSE!

  • (In Corneria OR Venom, that is...)

  • See, children, this is why Final Destination is boring

  • It's perfectly fair. Every character has strengths and weaknesses. It's just part of the game.

  • What about Fox ^smashing you at 60% on the peak of the ship for a kill?

  • @Jonhx5 thats why you don't play in stages where there is a lot of outside interference which is why I don't get why Mute City and Corneria are not banned.

  • @linkoninja Well, clearly people who can't defeat other people without outside interference love those stages, as you can see how they rated my comments. Must hurt. In any case, the game has those stages there for use, so you should use them, but winning because of a stage? I see that as a dirty win.

  • @Jonhx5 true makes you wonder if Ken was planning on using the outside interference of the stage. Anyways Ken is a phenomenal player and I don't think he would retain his title of being #1 by winning cause of a stage on purpose. Hopefully it was an honest mistake.

  • @linkoninja It WAS on purpose he selected that world, the cars hit the falco character just how they should've and everything was perfect for him. I dont care on picking a world for advantage of a character, I do care that the world gives you an unfair win. If you beat someone on a 1-on-1, no tricks, no advantage situation... then you can say you're better. I agree on Ken being an awesome player, not only with marth, and not only on SSBM.

  • Well wouldn't the cars hitting Falco because he's Falco giving Marth the character advantage?

  • @linkoninja Yes, which is why ken picked that world and was a good move. The world shouldn't kill you though, is as if there were 3 players there and the extra one is hitting the falco more than marth, just cause.

  • @Jonhx5 if that's the case then there would be no point in picking the stage cause there would be no advantage which makes counter-picks obsolete?

  • @linkoninja counter-picking the stage was pretty much what gave ken the win here. It's usefull, but I'd rather see a battle where there's no influence from something else than the skill of a player.

  • Please name me one perfectly fair stage that has no advantages to any character.

  • @protoguy1 You know there's nothing going on in final destination, it's a battle on skill alone. Another one could be battle stage, but the little lvls dont work good for starfoxs. Also, Dream Land is kinda fair, not taking into matter the wind.

  • Even FD and Dreamland aren't balanced. Dreamland is darn broken for Puff, Peach, and Falcon. FD is a really good Falcon stage, lets Falco laser pressure easily, and makes characters with CGs go to town without the possible interference of platforms. Even the loss of platforms benefits some characters but not others.

Essentially, there's no such thing as a completely neutral stage because all characters are different. Thus why the counter pick system has worked for years.

  • Ok, so let's apply the relativity theory here, ALL IS RELATIVE, whatever is ok for most characters but 1, disturbs the paradigm. I agree with you there protoguy, but still defend my position on "stages that kill". Sorry, just my point of view in the matter.

  • @Jonhx5 Additionally, you have to realize that in a best of __ match, you can lose on your opponent's counter picks. If you won the first match, and your opponent wins his counter pick, it's your turn to counter pick, giving you the edge for your last match. You have to be able to topple someone in a neutral stage or get back by toppling someone in their counter pick stage.

  • @Fumaster666 Please, let's drop this.

  • @Jonhx5

There isn't a no advantage situation unless both players are the same character, every character has stages that are good and bad for them

  • @Tsuraga I never said there was a no advantage situation, I'm just saying that using a world to make you win is cheap. low blow.

  • @Jonhx5

    Then where should they go

  • @Tsuraga hack the game and crack a world? LOL I always had a cool idea for a stage if you wanna hear it, but brawl never had that option. XD

  • @Jonhx5

    How bout a reasonable answer

  • @tsuraga reasonable answer is... I'm tired of this topic, drop it. call me noob, I like dream land and final destination to play in, other worlds, I dont. that's the last I'm saying about the topic, thanks :)

  • @Jonhx5

Dreamland and FD are fine but they are hardly fair

  • you are a scrub

  • @devall3y It's easy to say that when you're on the other side of the world :) you haven't seen me playing so you shouldn't say that :)

  • it has nothing to do with how you are playing, its how you think. you should do anything that increases your chances to win, as long as its part of the rules. this is the essence of competitive gaming, and this makes you, by definition, a scrub

  • @devall3y And by definition, you're an oportunist and an ignorant, but let's drop it. There's no need to judge anyone else cause it will utterly end in another discussion. Drop. It.

  • what does that have anything to do with being opportunist? or ignorant for that matter. as you wish... just know I didn't mean to offend, only trying to open your mind

  • in the end, the only lesson learned, win your counterpicks.

  • Gosh...that 3:42 moment was holy.

  • this is so much more intense than brawl will ever be

  • 'Tis an epic match indeed.

  • man, this entire series was crazy. ken was down 4-1 and he came back!! that first combo he got deserves the creation of a smash hall of fame to be put in.

  • Ken is amazing. I believe this was his last Melee tourney that he attended, and he certainly left the competitive scene with an impressive bang and managed to change the way we play Melee today.

  • yeah...one wonders what would've happened to smash when he left if brawl hadn't showed up and taken melee off the list for tournament games (only for people to realise that it's not much good and abandon smash altogether)

  • ken went to super champ combo

  • MegaBeanz the kids above us are retarded and dont know what their taking about

  • Agreed

  • How does he get out of chaingrabs so well?

  • cars + Marth's chainthrowing = PC owned

  • Amazing, I am so glad that Ken won. =)

  • Man

3:41 was the most intense moment in Melee I ever saw. Great final by both of the players.

  • if it weren't for those cars PC most likely would've won... one good reason Ken counterpicked this stage i guess

  • I think ken picks these kind on purpose on PC, since they're more abstract and less played, ken tends to be strong in these counterpicks on less played stages. Also since PC showed so much improvement on all the neutral stages, ken didn't want to risk losing a CP, so this might've been good for both of them, since PC can't really CP character ken much. because if PC went peach probably would've lost bad.

  • dude this stage is like falco's worst enemy.

  • lol johns for pc.

  • lol it seems much harder for falco to escape those cars as it falls so fast

  • One of the best matches ever

  • Where are the rest of them...?

  • There is no "rest of them." Read the earlier comments.

  • Is that Isai I see in the crowd?

  • thats what i thought too lol

  • Man, suddenly I caught myself screaming at every blow. Incredible match.

  • Even though I was totally neutral throughout this entire match, cheering PC's spikes and Ken's Ken combos, this was just such an exciting game I was mentally screaming for Ken along with the crowd. Absolutely stunning play from both characters.

  • sickest match

    my heart was screaming

    ken!!

  • cali cali!

  • my favorite is when they show the crowd and they are all just watching people play video games... what the hell

  • ahhaahhah

    "what the hell"

    ahhahahahaha

  • Where is the final 30 seconds of this match where all the WC supporters throw Ken up into the air Japan style??! that would have been the best part of this vid.

  • I agree lol, although 2:08 was pretty damn nice.

  • best smash match ever

  • KEN FOREVER!!!!

  • so ken won the whole thing?

  • Yup. Winner's bracket can do wonders for you...

  • guess hes still the best. oh well he'll let m2k and pc have their fun now that hes retired.

then he'll kick their ass in brawl again XD

  • M2K is the best at the game now, with or without Ken in the smash community. He like completely owned West Coast in 0C3 Crews.

  • You're forgetting Masashi, Aniki, Bombsoldier, and all the Japanese players.

Although m2k is among the best in the US, PC and azen are amazing too

  • bombsoldier is pretty gimpy in DI, and masashi's fox is too campy to be considered a real threat, which can be said of japanese smash players in general. Aniki has become pretty crazy though

  • I heard Ken is done with smash, but that's like saying Pete Sampras was done with tennis. They're both too good at it not to refuse a challenge, and (hopefully) come back.

  • no ken has said it himself that hes coming back for brawl

  • Yep. :]

  • Even though Brawl will be radically different from Melee technically, Ken has and always will have the best mindgames. Ever. Period.

  • True story. ^_O>

  • that emoticon looks like someone stuck an icecream cone in your eye

  • ew dont even mention brawl

  • Protoguy1, do you have the video of the 9'th match and beyond? These matches are awesome and the commentary is great, it would be really cool if you could upload it or direct me to where the other videos are.

  • This is the ninth (four in first set, five in second) and final match of the series. The anouncers got it wrong...

See whatwhatwhatwhatwhat's post earlier in the comments for a bit more detailed explantion.

  • I see. Thanks.

So, Ken ended up winning. He's truly awesome.

  • pc should have risked at the end, when ken was coming back.

  • marth rocks!

  • You may say that Ken won due to the cars, but they aren't randomized, they come at a certain point, and therefore do not give ken an unfair victory.

  • not to mention ken was also pummeled a few times himself by the cars

  • Ken bribed the F-zero racers

  • no no no ken owns all gimics in the stages IE. the cloud on yoshi's story ^_^

  • Ken and Randall really do have a longstanding alliance. You wouldn't believe the tricks those two have done together...

  • ive seen and watched every single one lol

  • LMAO

  • The cars owned PC. Sure Ken was playing great, but he definetly wasn't on his best, and PC may have capitalized on it if these gay cars didn't juggle him around.

  • Right at 01:48, I could see that Ken missed a prime opportunity to use the forward smash on Falco. Awesome match, nonetheless.

  • omg the cars ko pc lol

  • that was a bomb match boI!

  • well pc won the first set and ken won the second so that means that they have to go to 1 more set said in previous video that it is a best of 11. also the commentator at the end said they would be going to a ninth match

  • This match is the ninth match. Ken only needed to win one set because PC was sent to loser's by Chu earlier in the tourney.

  • hmmm so i guess thats a mistake on the commentators part then huh...GREAT SET of MATCHES between these 2 guys

  • that was amazing

  • cool video

  • who wins the whole thing?

  • If you have no sight, the top left corner says SSBM Finals, and Ken wins, who else would've?

  • PC Chris I believe.

  • From the description :

"And since this question keeps coming up, this *is* the last match in the set. The commentator got it wrong. He only needed to win one set due to the fact that he was from the winner's bracket. "
