I have seen a lot of people get into debates on what was better, the Mustang or the Spifire. I would argue that the allies would have had a lot harder time with out either one. The spitfire was a great fighter, the Germans would have walked right into England with out them. And American Bombers would have lost even greater numbers had the P51 Mustang not been availible. At the end of the day, both fighters were amazing!
@blueray1969 Yeah I could agree with that. Because when the Mustang had the Allison engine, it was alright but it couldn't handle the high altitudes while escorting bombers, so it was essentially was an attack plane. When the Rolls Royce (which would end up being built by Packard) was hitched to the P-51. A Luftwaffe destroying monster was born! Haw haw.
That Me 262 sure was an ungainly looking thing on the ground that looked a little bit more at home in the air. Those big jet engines just don't look right on the body of a propeller plane.
The rocket planes were even more ugly and limited, but both heralded a major change/advance in aircraft design and technology.

@Joshuajlawn teh real winner was of course the Rolls-Royce Merlin engine; used in both aeroplanes.

Superb video. shame about the "music" (or whatever one might choose to call it).

Hitler wanted the 262 to be a fighter-bomber. What an idiotic plan that was

262 may be faster but not nimble enough, just like all the things the Germans designed

I love the footage from this old time mass production lines - you realise how much manual labour has been reduced in the production of things now!
