  • I was gonna do another chevy LS 240sx build but I wanna go this route. I haven't done it yet and honestly, for such a smaller V8, it sounds great and moves pretty well. I would love to see how well the 240sx will drift with it.

  • This is a great swap, that motor is well built, only the chain guides on some of them Early motors you have to worry about. I did this swap with my Friend and he drove it in a s13 hatch back and it ran well for months, then he decided to try to make a home made supercharger kit for it then ran out of time due to having to move out of his house so he sold off the car allmotor.

    The q45 gets the same gas mileage as a beat up KA. And THATS in a car twice the weight of this. So i'm just going to go on a limb and say it now gets better gas mileage than the KA counterpart.

  • there is plenty of parts avalible for this engine i mean there is the vk56 which is the titan engine its a good engine but the vh45 i think is better cuz of the quantity of parts plus its lighter too and plenty of power to offer

  • Um...you're correct about the car weighing alot yet that can be fixed, second it runs the same platform as the toyota supra and can be interchanged with parts, but to think just cause the 1jz-gte or 2jz-gte are powerful engines will solve all is wrong. First off to get the engine is twice to three times the amount you'd spend on replacing the 1uzfe V8, second the V8 is light due to an aluminum block, but still strong due to the six bolt main crank. In retrospect that toyota v8 is strong(er).

  • You can only lose so much weight on something that heavy in the first palce though, and yeah I'm aware they have interchangable parts. 1JZ and 2JZ locally are not to expensive so IDK what shop you've been looking at. But power potential is way better in the 2JZ IMO. But do whatever makes you happy!! :P

  • Yeah but my point is from inital start that engine is not near the weight of those inline six engines, and with fabrication and machining skills either engine can be made to extensive power, just cause one is widely used in certain motorsports doesn't mean much, since the other series is used that much more in japanese racing. The goal for me is difference I've seen several 2jz-gte, 1jz-gte and 7mgte, but never a 1uz-3uz performance car. Also the same goes for Nissan, I've yet to see a VH

  • id go with the vh, despite it being made of aluminum, i have seen alot fairly cheep on the interwebs.

  • LSx's are all aluminum, some Vortec versions have an iron block though. there are some cheap ones, but not as good as an LSx of the same price. an LS is usually the way to go.

  • Well, I have an r32coupe non turbo.. and it never failed me.. and 6cylinder engines always better then 4. And due to reputation of RB engines have... especially RB30Det.. lets just say "Death on Wheels" :)

  • RB30 is RB30 E and can be made DE or DET with an RB25/26 head put onto it, the Rb30 its self but is only a SOHC.

  • straight up performance, RB26. MUCH better aftermarket support, and Twin turbo, very easy (relative term) to tune, and many ppl have swapped rb's into s13's and 14's, so better support there too. the VHDE is one of my fav engines, because with just a tune, it'll make 350+ at the flywheel, but RB26's have serious potential to crank out 500 without too much trouble, but then turbo lag, etc. VH45de is a little heavier too. all in all, Performance = RB26DETT

  • well the rb26 is still my fav motor. mad props for the vh swap btw. but i have one question i hope you can answer. why the vh45 instead of a vk. for my s14 im going ka-t, but i do want to build a second 240 with a nissan v8 so it would be nice if i started researching already. thanks.

  • The VK is based on the VQ series V6 engines. It has a cast crankshaft, 4 bolt main bearing caps and no main bearing beam.

    The VH is based on engines used in Group C and Le Mans race cars. It has a forged crankshaft, 6 bolt main bearing caps and a main bearing girdle. The block has a closed deck and extra cross bracing.

    You can find a VH in a local junkyard for cheap. VKs are newer and more expensive.

  • i made that comment a while back, i am a bit more educated in that subject now. I know the VH is a fabulous motor, the VK is a more envoirnmentally friendly motor.

    Mind you the new super gt cars are running VK. But whatever, the Indycars ran VH35dett and the lemans r390 gt1 ran vh41dett, so i am convinced lol.

    but outta curiousity is it possible to use the vk45 titanium valves in a vh45? That would seal the deal for me.
