  • furchtbar

  • Watch that engine bounce!! Lol great shot! What a beautiful train the Cascades is.

  • The back engine nodded at you! Haha

  • they bounce good

  • which Locomotive is an F40PH, and which one is an NPCU (non-powered control unit)

  • Comment removed

  • Oh. the first loco looked like a F40PH

  • @ned987 the F40PH is the NPCU its the engine on the back

  • Tren Amtrak con coches españoles TALGO.

  • That was a severe bounce, that realy shook the passengers!!!

  • I wondered:

When would US railroad see the use of "ballast-less" tracks? This track really needs to upgrade to "ballast-less"

At this speed, a bounce like that should be almost non-existent...

  • never that takes away from us on teh railraod its another lost job

  • Yeah, the F40PH locomotive really took a shock!

  • Just wondered, are there tracks at the grade crossing? Or are they running Amtrak on gravel in that area?

  • They'er at the grade crossing.

  • what in hell hapened at end

  • Nothing much, the train crossed a rough grade crossing.

  • Actually, if you watch the whole video, you'll notice that all the cars bounce quite a bit at the same spot. It looks worse when the cabbage at the end goes over the bump because there aren't any cars behind it to mitigate the bounce.

I've ridden a few times on Amtrak in that area and noticed there's a very rough patch that the trains nonetheless seem to take at speed. I don't know if this is the specific place I've noticed, however.

  • Now why is there a locomotive at each end each facing opposite directions?

  • There isn't. The one at the north end is an NPCU (Non Powered Control Unit). It was an F40PH, but the power unit has been removed. However, there is still a control stand inside. This eliminates the necessity of turning the train around in Portland or Eugene for the return trip to Seattle.

  • That would have caused a major derailment.

  • The train slithered over the bump like a snake.

  • the horn change

  • F-40 cabcars are gutted F-40 engines with the engine removed and notedly lighter.

  • I can't believe that it bounced and never derailed! That dazzles me!

  • holy shit, it really bounced!
