I love the artist and the song but don't believe everything you think you see. She wasn't really hitting those high notes that was one of her background singers and she was just going with the motions. Story is told that it may even be her daughter. Don't get me wrong Mrs Wright has a good voice but she is a Alto and the best of best altos can't hit a high note that high unless they are some kind of freak of nature. If that was her true range she would have made alot more money in music.

This concert was almost 100% live because my friend's mom is a huge Betty Wright fan and she has this whole concert on dvd is not the best quality but you can clearly tell that she was singing live excpet for some songs at the very end. And for your information there's a lot of very talented singers that have amazing voices but never get signed simply because according to record companies they are not commercial enough, etc etc...

Betty Wright is known for her ability to sing in whistle register and has demonstrated it many times both live and on her records. Check out my video "Betty Wright Queen of the Whistle Reigester". She was very popular in the 70's and 80's but she hasen't recorded anything in over a decade and doesn't do "pop" music. That's why she's not "popular". By the way, Mariah Carey is an alto who just sings soprano!

@DeVron83 Actually Betty is a true coloratura soprano. That is what folks forget. Most opera soprano singers don't belt past C5 and the rest of their notes are connected head voice. Betty notes are for the most part in connected head voice that makes her coloratura soprano, a dramatic one cause she very loud, and full. Mariah and Rachelle are indeed controalto's but Betty is naturally a coloratura cause she can hold and stay but there even in hoarse state!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!­!!!!!!!!!!

Betty's tessitura is actually quite low and much heavier and fuller than both Mariah and Rachelle. So i'd classify her as a contralto because her voice sits very low. Most mezzos have bigger ranges than sopranos so its no surprise that she can sing so high.
