Factually, she's pretty good. On pitch, for one thing. Knows the lyrics. Very good support. No false vibrato. But I do hope her parents aren't the kind who think she's "great" right now, a la Jackie Evancho (who also needed work on fundamentals while everybody was saying she was the greatest singer in history and all that). She could use a lot of work on breathing and phrasing. But she's definitely on the right path, if her attitude is right.

She's not perfect yet, not the greatest ever, etc.--but she's already better where it counts than almost any contestant on Idol. Those people almost never have any serious training, have no idea how to sustain a note and sound good, and spend the whole time trying to imitate sounds and vibrato and so forth that they've heard from somebody else.
