Many people dont know who James Burton is...and how many songs he wrote and how many people he recorded and played with...great ....thank you for putting it up.....
What great days those were for lovers and addicts of guitar intrumentalls... When the instrument defined pop/rock sensibilities. I ache to have that back. Also, Thx to Marshall Crenshaw for his lush, lush cover of this... And dedication to such guitar pop-rock excellence himself.
Davis Mallet went on to a massive career in music/video/direction -Bowie's "Ashes to Ashes" video and many more- he directed The Kenny Everett Video Show- I imagine there are clips on YouTube of this TV madness. James was a massive influence on all the British guitar players who were becoming prominent at this time. It was Keith Richards who cajoled the R &R Hall of Fame to begin honouring key side-men to get James inducted- something Keith officiated at on the night.
Great guitar player, one of the best, although he most certainly did not invent string bending on the guitar, (blues guys were doing that for years) he definitely brought it to pop music.
This is the guy that invented bending or at lrast brought to modern guitar playing, one of the biggest Icons and Influeces on rock and country playing period.Jimmy Page and Jeff Beck carried pics of James Burton in their wallets. Thanks for posting this GEM.
Thanks.....some would say the same about another artist who was in the cast of Beatlemania as well as recording tons of great albums in the 80s, 90s, and 00s.
co-wrote and played the lead riff on the ORIGINAL version with singer Dale Hawkins on Suzie Q

This is the REAL "Guitar Hero"!.
Mr. Burton's timing and skill got him hired as Elvis' lead man in the last years of Elvis' life.
Can you get higher than that?

What a lovely, atmospheric song!
It has a real West Coast feel to it, the perfect song to walk along the beach at sunset . . . .
Nice one, Vee Fan
