I'm using oak too, what's the thickness? I'm asking because I have to shave some of the neck (inside the box, so the lid kan vibrate freely), but I'm afraid I'll just be making a 'breaking point'... :(
@expendabolicious I think the top on that one is about 1/4 inch. The neck is glued right to the neck. Sometimes I sand them alittle more. Thanks for watching!!
Thanks I appreciate that.I need to learn alittle more about guitar necks before I try a 6 string.Bigger box would be nice. I think that one you are playing is sweet! Thanks for your comments Lenny
I love to see and hear homemade guitars. Setting a guitar neck correctly is not an easy matter. Getting good action and the intonation right. You should visit tinyguitars and pick his brain for suggestions. My large CBG was built by my friend Jimmy who is a professional builder. My friend Bill was the brains behind the two CBG that we built. I'm a player, not a builder, so I appreciate a good build when I see it. I hope you keep building. I think this model in a six would be killer. Good stuff.
Thanks! I'll check out his site. You sound good!! Thanks for the inspiration.I'm building a smaller 4 string for a friend.Yeah a 6 string would be sweet. Thanks again.Keep playing that thang! Lenny
Thanks! not too hard to fret easier than I thought. Just fretted a Uke might have problems with it the neck is so narrow the frets seem like they want to pull up on the ends alittle.
Ive been thinking about making a fretted box too but i have an Dutch 60's guitar (Egmond) that needs restoring first. But i'm surely gonna try it, i thinks it adds a whole new dimension to a cbg and brings it a step closer to a real guitar.
I love the sound of that.
I've been tuning on 4th and 5ths for pentatonic scales. It makes the notes really easy to find. Great for older folk music.
