  • I can never get over this video! Wow! It's just purely astonishing each time you watch it! This video holds a lot of inspiration for those of us who own hand-held HI-DEF cam-corders and are just longing to use them for this kind of thing...Brilliant. I highly suggest that you enter the film industry!

  • One more excellent video. Unfortunately, a couple of your other vids are not viewable in my country due to the policies of Sony Music Entertainment. :(

  • where did you get the voice over

  • that was absolutely fantastic.

  • I absolutely love this video. Job very well done

  • Well done!

  • Thank you! :)

  • where do you find these voiceovers

  • what is the audio playing over the top of the video?

  • @wangchung2nyt It's Maya Angelou's 'On the Pulse of Morning'

  • This is one of those videos that makes you believe in a God

    Unbelievably well done my friend

  • Wonderful video, a masterpiece.

  • wow. this is so inspiring.. one of the best videos i have seen on the internet. u like nailed it. ahha

  • Thank you that was beautiful.

My goodness ..... that made me weep.

  • haaaaaaaaaaaaa.... how many (new) ideas! You're really original! I want to go out and do something like this...

    Thanks!

  • Puget Sound Baby!

  • great video :D

keep em coming, you are very talented!!

  • how do u get such smooth slow motion in vegas?

  • @TriFF51

I just don't stretch it that far. I also shoot in 60i and never in 24p. 24p is terrible for slow motion.

  • thanks a lot for the reply...your videos are great

  • @TriFF51

    Thank you!! :D

  • @meheh

When i get to inspiring places or simply the urban city streets i want to take pictures but I'm not a professional. If i buy the hv30 will I (a amateur) be able to work with it?

can I get your quality or do you have to tweek the whole set to get it just right?

  • @colloredbrothers It's a great camera. It'll take a little time to get used to it like most cameras out there. I find it pretty simple to use. :) As for quality...it just takes practice on shooting and editing things. Experimenting with everything. :)

  • I showed your videos to my family to show them the quality of this camera, which I'm getting. They think the camera is amazing. I can't wait to get it, and try out color correction. I'm thinking about getting Magic Bullet software to help with color. Great job on your vids! They are great! Looking forward to more!

  • Thank you so much man! You're going to love your new camera! But, just to let you know, about 70% of it comes down to the editing. Magic Bullet may help you. I've never used it. Let me know what it's like! :) Happy Holidays!

  • Hmm. I read somewhere you used Sony Vegas, which I have, but I just got Final Cut Express. I'll have to teach myself the color correcting tools before I go out and buy new software. Once again, great job!

  • I also have Final Cut Pro, but I never used it, hehe. Sony Vegas is just way more efficient and fun to use in my opinion.

  • yo dude your vidos are amazing you have inspired me to buy this camera, thnakyou! the result achiveable with this cam and editing are unreal

  • Thank you! I hope you enjoy your new camera! Ther are fun little things!

  • fucking love your vids dude, can you make us a tutorial one day on color correction and stuff? one dayyyy lol

  • Thank you! One day I will definitely give my secret away, hehe.

  • Hey Meheh, i noticed your comment about TIDES bieng shot in Washington. The scenes of the beach remind me of twilight the movie, as well as the forest scenes. You got some amazing talent filming! This was a very great video, you are most definately an inspiration to those who love documenting and filming things about life! :)

  • Hey, thank you! I'm really glad the video inspires! I haven't seen Twilight yet, but it'll be nice to compare my shots/locations with the movie. Were the ocean/forest shots in Washington as well?

  • @meheh. Yes everything in both the Twilight movies were shot in Washington around cities such as Forks, La push beach, port angeles, and an indian reservation nearby La push beach. @ 1:27 looks like a same scene from the first Twilight movie

  • Man...found you while doing research on the HV40. You are a true talent - you just took me to a world you created through your own perception...you put me behind your eyes...indescribable. Moving...I'm kind of without words. Thanks for the beautiful images.

  • Thank you for the kind words!!! :D

  • Dude. Awesome

  • You have a gift. And you know it. Use it wisely and never get rid of your sensitivity.

    The video makes me shiver.

I wanted to write something more, but at the moment I'm spechless. Good luck with making other videos,

  • This is absolutely beautiful. One of the best videos I've ever seen. In fact it's not just a video, it's art! You have very skillful filming. I strongly suggest you film for a movie! I will watch your other videos and consider subscribing.

  • haha | was about to ask the same qst as idie123 + where did shoot this video and when ? was it really that foggy ?

  • The video was shot on the coast of Washington State. The northern most tip of the continental west coast. It was pretty foggy, but I have some camera tricks to make it appear more foggy than it really is, hehe. ;)

  • hey, what all do you have besides the hv30? 35mm lense? what program are you using to modify colors? i am getting this camera based soley on your videos. they look amazing. i have watched this video about 20 times allready. you have a great talent for setting the mood. good job and keep it up.

  • I just used the naked camera. No special lens or anything like that, not even a tripod, hehe. I use Sony Vegas for my editing. That is very inspiring to hear that my videos make you want to get the camera! :D Thank you very much for the kind words!

  • does sony vegas have color correction, or is this the natural colors from the camers. ive just watched this one 2 more times. i have a a short film i am wanting to do, and dont have a big budget for a camera, what i am seeign from yuou this camer does more then i ever even wanted. i also want to plan a trip to go to where you fimlmed it is amazing

  • Yeah, you can do color correction in Sony Vegas. None of the vivid colors are straight from the camera. Also, you need good lighting in order to make things look good. You should definitely take a trip to the upper Washington coast. You'll love it!

  • This video is absolutely gorgeous. Nice job!

  • Thank you! :D

  • bah, my comments never get through! D:

As I was trying to say, seeing from the distance of time between freemanslim's comments, i now know I am not the only one who has watched this video over and over. This is just simply amazing, truly beautiful. I've never seen anything better than this.

  • Wow! Thank you for that really nice comment! It really boosts my inspiration and drive to hear tings like this! I'm rally glad you liked it, man! Words like yours are so so encouraging. Thank you!

  • I think it's for you to move to the next level and do some video editing tutorial for the sake of the community video fans man :)

  • I was actually going to do a tutorial on how I did the editing for this video to make the colors and stuff look great, but I don't have the original files to go back and show it step by step. I'll definitely try to find time on my next videos. Thanks for the suggestion!! :)

  • you are a hero man !!

  • Thank you!! :D

  • amazing video!

  • Thank you!

  • Awesome flow and audio build up, beautiful imagery as well, you can be proud!!!!

    Cheers

  • Thank you for the nice words!! :D

  • im glad you also submitted this one! i saw this on vimeo

the gay=sin was age restricted coz of that b*** scene but i think its really as great as the Tide video.

    very calming, artistic and deep

    faved 5stars

matthew this is one of the best serious submissions. thank you dec15 i have a gift for u on my page

    archie

  • lol i got confused i meant tide was as great as the gay=sin video ;)

  • Thank you so much, Archie! I'm really glad you enjoyed it!! :D I appreciate the kind words!

  • wow amazing video!!

  • Man, it can't be just post-production color correction, any special lens?

  • Thank you! Nah, it's just the naked camera.

  • Not only, there's mastery of the camera settings, spill out your secret.

  • this deserves an award =D

  • I wish, hehe. Thank you!!

  • Cant wait to get mine!

  • Simply stunning and melancholic yet so uplifting. It stirs something within you! I am taking delivery oh a HV30 today and if I can produce anything even half as good I'll be very pleased. Tell me this though, a lot of the HV30 vids around all look crap, lighting, focus etc and your vids are so rich in colour and fluid, what is it that you are doing different? Is is all about the editing colour correction etc... I plan to use Sony Vegas platinum. Is the HV30 compatible with XP?

  • Thank you so much!!! Yeah, it definitely all comes down to the skill/talent of someone. If you don't have good lighting you're probably going to have an ugly shot. The focus, composition, and movement have a lot to do with it when it comes to the camera. Lots of practice and understanding. When it comes to the editing, yes, lots of color correction, brightness contrast alterations, etc. It's almost like the HV30 was made for Sony Vegas. Keep in mind, it's the talent that makes it look good... :)

  • god damn man you make me sad cause I can't do anything close to this =/.

What's the effects used on your vids to make them look more colorful and smoother looking if you can tell it in a simple way

  • wow! so perfect!

  • Thank you!

  • What a mesmerizing video! Really great work. Reminds me of the video from Enigma "Return to Innocence".

    Thank you!

  • Wow, I've never seen that video before!! How strange they go backwards and show the tides and everything, too! thanks for sharing! :)

  • If you listen to the lyrics of the original music video from Virgin records, you will appreciate the video even more... Enjoy!

  • hi. I just bought an hv40, after lots of research and in a big part inspired by your videos. I wanted to ask, what are your preferred settings for shooting in your hv30? cinemode? shutter speed priority (what speed)? also... when you edit, on what resolution you prefer to edit? 1080 or 720 ... I am totally new in the -digital video world- haha... thanks a lot for your inspiring clips!

  • Thank you. :)

For shooting I usually use either the cinemode or Tv mode with 1/60 - 1/500 shutter speed (depending on what I'm doing). I shoot in 60i.

As for editing, I use the 1080.

  • this is the most wonderful thing I've ever seen, really amazing ! Did you use some kind of accessory for the camera or just the hand in the camera hand "slot"? i saw a picture on vimeo where you were using something attached to the camera.

  • I only did handheld shots in this video. thanks for the really nice words!!!!!!!!! I really really appreciate it!

  • wow, I just ran across your channel. This video had me transfixed. Stunning. You're combination of over saturated colors, music, voice over, subjects, and imagery running backwards was so amazingly melded together - it literally took my breath away. Fantastic work.

  • Thank you very much!!

  • awesome video5*

many thanks posting as a video response

    love and respect

    scotty and libby:o)

  • Thank you! I like your video a lot. Such a beautiful place!!

  • you're going far someday. amazing.

  • very original mind. love the creativity

  • this is great :]

  • such a beautiful vision!

  • So if I buy an HV30, go to your location where u shot this, point and shoot, it will look the same? If not, what accessories did you add to the camera for it to look like this? THANKS IN ADVANCE.

  • It definitely WON'T look the same. I wish I could upload the original footage to show people how all the colors and just the overall look are drained and boring. Many different aspects go into making something look decent. I didn't use any real accessories, just some camera tricks and good editing.

  • beautiful

  • oh my god.

I stumbled upon your videos 6 or 7 months ago when looking for Cannon HV clips, and have been a big fan for a while.

This is absolutely beautiful. It almost makes me want to cry.

Keep up the good work, I am truly excited to see what's to come.

  • Thank you so much!! I really appreciate the nice words! Unfortunately, my house was robbed, so I'm still waiting on my new computer so I can edit more videos. It's been too long since I made a video!! hehe. Thanks again!!

  • Oh my! I'm so sorry about that! Can't wait to see what's next though!

Quick question: Do you use a naked HV30 or do you have any sort of filter or adapter or something?

  • thanks!

It's just the naked camera when shooting. And no Magic Bullet. Just a special recipe in the filters on basic color correction, etc.

  • I have watched this lovely vid over and again.

Where is the credit for "On the Pulse of Morning" in the description?

I feel sad that I am so programmed by television that I keep expecting to see a car company logo at the end... and so glad that there isn't one.

  • I rushed to get the video online, and sometimes forget everything in writing. I'll put Maya's name in there. Thanks.

Hehe, I'll ake sure to throw a Mercedes logo in there next time. ;) Thanks for watching! I apreciate the kind words!

  • I see you already answered the setting question, but what about camera shake? what tripod do you use, and if you use some anti-shake contraption, what do you use? and what filters did you run this through when you edited it? bloom?

  • This is great footage, may I ask how you are preventing camera shake? everything seems so smooth, and what settings do you record at for this footage?

  • The camera was all handheld. There was no special contraption or altering in post to make it smooth. Just a steady hand. I used 60i on Tv mode.

  • its beautiful, thank you so much for sharing your visions with the world, for an united world :)

  • Thank you for the kind words! :)

  • Beautiful! ♥

  • Dude this stuff is incredible. :)

  • Hey nice work meheh damn ure good can you post some tutorials in how to do color correction

  • what modes on the camera do you use

  • In this video I used the 60i mode and cinemode with manual focus and manual white balance

  • FilmCritic66, U R a disgrace to the word Film Critic. Im also quite sure that U have no credentials aside from the lack of professionalism U display & most assuredly the lack of any creative eye to be able to take notice of a filmmaker with outstanding abilities & innate sense of imagery & storytelling tht will one day place him aside the greats of Scorcese & Spielberg. But to U, a wannabe, even they are little girls w/their stuff on FB. By the way,why are you watching little girls on Facebook?

  • I have been looking for a film maker like you on youtube for a long long time. You are what I aspire to be.

Never ever stop, even when so called "film criticts" tell you your a no good film maker.

Please, very stop, because its people like you that keep me inspired.

  • Hehe, thank you very much!! I really appreciate the encouragement! I'll keep on creating for people like you!

  • Dig deeper and you'll see that this ISN'T a "film". Dig deeper and you'll see that I do make films and that they are in festivals right now. Dig deeper and realize that you should probably upload your own "works of art" before "passing judgment" on others. You're only making yourself look like an asshole. :)

Also, MANY people love my videos, and I can't help if you get upset that you don't have anything to show for yourself. :)

  • You are Amazing at what you do....Had to subscribe

  • I love your raw editin/cutting! Art MUST be like this. Great stuff!

  • Hmmm.... I will admit that I have NEVER shot in anything other than 24p since I have had my hv30. And lately I have found that has led to some issues with the quality of my footage (notably when I try to do slow-mo; If you watch my video of the moth and fountain you'll see my problem). So you're saying that when you shoot in 60i and render out in 24 you get the same look without the stutter? Is there ANYTHING I can do to correct the jerky/stuttering problems in my last two videos?

  • This is truly beautiful mate. you have created poetry in motion. The opening shot alone made me subscribe to you lol.. I just bought the hv40 and I'm still learning how to use it.. is it normal for my footage to look a little bit stuttered/jerky when I move it around when shooting in 24p? Is that why you choose to shoot in 60i? and render in 24p later?

  • Thank you very much! And YES, that is why I don't use 24p. It is SO easy for it to ghost in post, so I'd definitely use 60i or 30p for shooting. The 24p is kind of pointless to me because of that fact. If you want to do slow motion on 24p, you're screwed. I say just render in 24p and you'll be fine.

  • thanks so much for the advice I'll definitely keep that in mind.. keep posting more videos :)

  • "Behind a camera lens there should be the eye of a poet"

You def have the eye mate. This video serves to prove that you don't need a script, a plot or even a plan. Beautiful footage only depends on the location and the man behind the lens of a video camera. Great work man, this is moving and inspiring much like your the rest of your work. Keep it up.

    Yuri Machado

    Authentic Productions

  • Thank you very much!! I hope to acheive the same thing when I do planned, narrative pieces, hehe. :) I really appreciate the words of encouragement!

  • This video just blows me away...awesome video, awesome music, you inspire me in my own film efforts! Thank you.

  • Thank you for the very nice words, and keep on it with your film work. Practice and experiment as much as possible!! ;)

  • i want to know what camera ur using sir...super works her though...love and admire what i see!!

  • I use the Canon HV30, but I'm upgrading this week to the HV40.

  • man ur video inspires me to make more videos now haha! GREAT WORK MY MAN!

  • Thank you man!!

  • realy nice rendered 60i rulez :P

  • great vid!!!

  • what frame rate did you use?

  • I shot in 60i. I rendered in 24p.

  • why use 60i when you can use 30p? that way you won't have to deinterlace, since you loose resolution when you deinterlace.

  • Clearly there is no issue with the quality with me using 60i. Also, I've had issues with slow motion when using the 30p(ghosting and such), so 60i works just fine for me...quality and all.

  • oh yea. I forgot that slow motion had something to do with it. XD

  • Very nice. Did you see my last video?

  • Sure did. The one with the contrast between stillness and chaos? I like the high contrast in that one,and all the ambient sound.

  • This looks so good. You have a gift.

  • wow beautiful.

  • very cool bro

  • cool video, i love the ocean!

  • moments with a calm soul with a soothing outlook. This is very lovely indeed meheh :)

  • This should be featured. Its too good.

  • Beautiful work again

  • Completely AMAZING! Quite possibly one of the greatest videos i've seen online, and certainly one of my new fav's.

  • It's amazing indeed. One of the best things I've seen on You Tube!!

  • It's wonderful!!! You left me out of words.

  • Thank you! ;)

  • meheh,

thank you so much for sending this to me,

I'm so glad I subsribed to your channel !

There's something magical about seeing these phenomena running in backwards motion, you're exacting a kind of beauty that is new to me from them. I look forward to seeing all your work, and I'm grateful to you for doing this.

  • really great work

  • Thank you for checking it out! :)

  • OMG! This is the best video I saw last year. Is this JVC HV30? You are born cinema expert. Thank You for the brilliant images of Seattle, I never have thought it's SO BEAUTIFUL!

  • Thank you so much! It's the Canon HV30. Yeah, Seattle is so so beautiful. The surrounding areas are breathtaking.

  • I agree that reversing can be overdone, but this video really worked for me. I got totally immersed in it. Really interesting and beautiful images and sounds. Your explanation that you used reverse in an effort to rewind the event so you could relive it really added to my enjoyment of the vid. Great work as usual!

  • Thank you! :)

  • along with what you're using to color correct do you use a glow filter and turn the brightness down so that the blacks get darker but the rest of the image isn't effected? i love all your videos by the way!!!!

  • There is glow, but most of the stuff you see is actually a camera trick that makes it look like that. I don't turn the brightness down in many shots. A few of them for sure, but I mess with the contrast and saturation a lot. Thank you for the really nice comment! I really appreciate it!

  • Hey mehmeh, where is this beautiful place?

    do you actualy live there?

Its nice to see people who have the sensitivity to grasp the beauty of life.. those simple things wich are fulfiling..
