Wow I have three of these guys, and have for more than a decade and I would not tolerate this. If our dogs bite at us or bare their teeth they will get spanked. We have small children who visit and there is no way we would allow them to act this way.
Someone mentioned the dog's back hurting, I highly doubt that, they usually get really scared and nervous if you touch them when their back is hurting, and maybe yelp, they don't growl and show their teeth.
My black and tan Doxie HATES having her sleep disturbed, but shes never reacted that way. She just jumps up and burrows down deeper and plays dead till I physically have to pic her up. If you surprise her out of a deep sleep, she'll let out one BIG bark.
I doubt this dog is being abused. Dachshunds are notoriously stubborn and proud and only comply when it is in their interest to do so. This is an excessively aggressive reaction from the dog though, and imo should have been corrected. I have a dax and he recently bit and growled when being stirred from his sleep and was punished by being shut outside for an hour. He hasn't done it since.
Don't encourage aggressive behaviour by pacifying it!
Ah, the dangers of disturbing a dachshund's nap time haha....mine gets the same way. This is NOT due to how the owner raised her though, it is a trait of the breed. Not all doxies are this way, but if they are they are usually female. They REALLY love there nap time lol.
How do u get a dachshund house broken? And without a crate. Cause mine is on puppy pads and no mater how much I take him out he always goes back to that puppy pad.
My doxie isn't trained and he has never ever acted like that. We got him when he was older because his owner died and he has been wonderful with my kids. He lets us pick him up and play with his ears and he loves every moment of it. He loves his blankets but not THAT much lol I thought most doxies were tame, he must be very possessive of that blanket. I would be too, it looks comfy :-)
It's simple dominance-aggression. This is its bed and you are not allowed. It believes that it is in charge. It's a common problem with small dogs, because their behaviour can seem cute or funny rather than threatening. To improve the dog's behaviour, when it does this, remove it from the bed immediately and sit on the bed for a while to show it that you are in charge.
This is very typical to the breed, they are hard-headed and like things their way, it's what makes them...THEM. I have one just like that one and I wouldn't change him for anything.

All doxies love to sleep under the covers. They feel like they are safe in a den. That's pretty much his way of saying hey, I'm comfy and going to sleep. Leave me the hell alone!
I happened to see how "dog training" happened when I was getting my car detailed by a professional. If you haven't seen that in person, I would highly encourage you to do so. It is outright brutal; you should instead euthanize your dog. Accept your pet for what he/she is. I have had two dachshunds, and all I have is only pleasant memories of them; they were not PROFESSIONALLY TRAINED, only cajoled to do a few things.
I have a Dachshund that does that. It's about territory. What I did was kept taking mine out of his bed, even if he bites me and tell him no firmly. After a few times, he doesn't bother even growling.
I have two miniature dachsunds. One of them came from an abusive previous home and they know whos thos boss. Its me. They are the sweetest, nicest, gentlest dogs ever. they love to be held and handled and they allow me to bathe them, clip their toe nails and clean their ears with no problem. Theres no such thing as a bitchy dog. Just unfit owners.
This dog has asserted dominance over the pack and established himself as the pack leader. As pack leader, he has established what he declares to be his private domain and will require that pack members stay out. This is a problem behavior and will be difficult to correct once established.
People tend not to understand that it is not cruelty to establish dominance over a dog. In fact, a dog would be happier with someone else as pack leader.
Dachshunds get bitchy... I have four, and Lucy the alpha dog, does the same thing to everyone in the house except me, when she feels like it. Not often. The videographer just knew when to take it.
Makes no difference how big or small the dog is. Why are you rewarding your dog for it's bad behaviour. we have two miniature dachshunds and we love them to bits. They both know what is expected of them as far as behaviour is concerned. They get plenty of love and affection, they sleep on our bed at nights and they love us as much as we love them. All because they know and accept their place in the pack order and they don't get rewarded for being aggressive.
I don't know if you are aware of this, but the back teeth of a dachshund are VERY sharp and serrated, and that dog can take the flesh completely off your hands really easily. I had dachshunds 43 years. Trust me. They ALL can do that.
dachshunds are very selfish and clever. i had one and she acted in the same manner but would never bite me after i beat her when she did that. they dont like to be carried around.
@kkowall1 both our miniature dachshunds love being handled and carried. Sometimes they ask to be picked up, other times they are picked up because we want to cuddle them or carry them.
My god, my dog would never dare do that if I want her out of her bed, I click my fingers and say here and out she gets. A dog should NEVER EVER react like that to it's owner. It's clear who is the boss there it's the dog and not the owner. I can take a chew out of my dogs mouth, take her food off her whilst she is eating, she will even take a chew from my mouth if I tell her to and she is so gentle. My dog is a 6 yr old Daschund cross terrier she won an award at 7 months for most gorgeous girl
i dont give a damn..YOUR OWN DOG ( if you had him/her first) SHOULD NEVER react that way unless: 1 you train him to be mean, 2. he has a sore spot that you keep touching on purpose repeatedly, 3. is sick with a strange illness. If none of these things apply..YOU NEED TO GET THIS DOG RETRAINED BY A PROFESSIONAL. She would be a danger to kids and other visiting guests.Use ur common sense mr. " i dont care when she gets all angry because she can't really do much but grow lol". I saw her bite u.
@FallschirmjagerX nope, there like that because people think there cute little dogs and they don't discipline them and they get away with shit like that. i have a weenie dog and he is great but the first time he pulled that kind of shit he found out who was in charge real quick and never did it again. you need to take care of that stuff its not healthy for them and try raising a rotty like that they will chew your face off if your not a good owner
@chronofusion your a pussy. Lol it was probably tired and the dude was annoying him. "its a danger to kids" its a daschund for crying out loud whats the worst its gonna do, give you a little cut on your finger, and make you go crying to your mum....its not a pit bull dude, relax
@chronofusion WRONG. Lots of dogs behave that way. You can see the dog didn't want to hurt his mommy. My dog used to play-growl and nip. They are just doing what comes natural to them. Natually, if a kid is going to pull a dogs ears or tail, or torment the dog, the dog will defend itself, and that has nothing to do with training. You don't train a dog to take abuse.
@chronofusion Well...you sir (or madam) have obviously never owned a Dachshund. Or maybe you have a friend with a doxie so you think that makes you a professional or something. Anyhow. Penelope (My very own Dach.) does the same thing in her bed. She likes to act tough but has never bit us. Oh yeah she's trained. =D
I just adopted a dachshund a couple of months ago from the shelter and he can be the same way. I've had him in training for two months now and he's better than he was but he still has the tendency to freak out and act just like this. He's bitten me for as little as picking up a toy that he was playing with and I have never so much as swatted at him. I think that it is a little presumptuous of you to assume that because a dog sometimes acts like that its owner is mistreating it.
@chronofusion Not EVEN. I have a dachshund and she gets randomly aggressive like that. Especially around her bed or toys. Doxies are temperamental as fuck. It's not his fault or anything. That's kind of just how they are.
@jdavz322 well guess what genius. i adopted a RESCUED dog ( 1 year old shizuou and no i dont care to look up the proper spelling...get over it) more than 6 years ago that was constantly having to fight for her food. and guess what else? I TRAINED her to calm down and not bite me when i put my hand near her food. You're welcome. gd..this shit is months old. move on with your life.lol.
@drarixioIIIICat reread what i told jdavz322 and follow instructions, dee dee deeeeeeeee. and I never said shit about training a dog about dealing with robbers. i have no clue wth you're talking about.
@drarixioIIIICat (shakes his head laughing at your stupidity). sure kid..why not..have at it..while you're at it...just move to jackson ms..and see how long ya last ( with all the stupid nigger thugs around that own 85% of the entire city ftr since the past 20 years).im sure that dachshund can handle them lol.. .....
@drarixioIIIICat why are you on the internet this late kid? 1. go to bed 2. oh well. 3. so can a bad case of bronchitis.
here's a common sense hint. if you want a guard dog and one that has the slightest ounce of distinguishable intelligence. get a rottweiler. unlike dobermans rottweilers are FAR less proned to turn on their family/owner(s). if you're dumb enough to use a small dog fora guard dog...you deserve to get broken into. Go to bed kid. You're too young to be on the net anyways
@chronofusion i own a mintuare dachshund and she would destory any rottweiler. she already proved it when she bite the one from across the street and had him running leaving his balls behind so dont start talking crap about small guard dogs.
@minifelipe1 omfg...grow up moron. You don't have a clue what you are trying to lie about let alone claiming you have ever OWNED a dachshund. talking crap about small guard dogs? lol. I'm not even going to educate your 10 miles of deep stupidity and ignorance to give you a fighting chance let alone throw you a shovel for you to try spending the next 10 years digging yourself out and one day calling yourself an adult of normal intelligence. move on kid. learn the concept of TIME.
@chronofusion im the moron? hahahah.i have never owned a dachshund. i OWN a dachshund you moron. stop trolling and get a life as obviously you have nothing else to do in your day ;)
@minifelipe1 yes..you are the moron here. and you type " i have never owned a dachshund." yet put no question mark at the end of that sentence ...THEN the very next sentence you call me the moron and say you own one. MAKE UP YOUR LYING MIND...FUCKTARD..LOL. You can't even pay attention ENOUGH to your own grammatically miscommunicative mistakes. piss off troll you obviously don't have damn clue. I bet your dumbass voted for barry seotoro as current illegally elected usa dictator too.
@minifelipe1 incase you're too high, mighty, and have been sniffing your own farts all day long enough to kill what few brain cells you had left...that also means teh conversation IS OVER...MOVE ON.. no one cares..ya lost.get over it. game over do not pass go and collect money, the fed reserve is NOT your friend, SANTA CLAUSE AND THE TOOTH FAIRY ARE NOT REAL KID. MOVE ON.
@chronofusion lol your such a idiot hahahah your talking about moving on? your the idiot whos been commenting on this for 9 months straight hahah your such a moron and a troll lol. why do you have to bring up santa clause and the tooth fairy they have nothing to do with this argument this just proves even more that your a troll. just get off of youtube your not wanted here :D
I have a miniature dachshund the same colour as Cricket here she even sleeps in a bed like Crickets with blankets etc. Let me tell ye if she EVER snapped at me like that she'd get such a smack. I've never had a problem with her growling at me before although she does tend to when we use the hairdryer on her after a wash. But by Jaysus I'd never stand for her snapping at me. Different strokes for different folks though!
My Datsun does this also when she is "jostled, " lol (She doesn't snap though...just growls) and to the people on here saying show the dog who's boss...I reprimand my dog everytime she does it, and she'll stop right then...but she still does it the next time.
every dachshund HATE it when someone hold it around. they are very stubborn dogs, mine is also like that! it's usually ok when my mum does it, but he always protect her, and he become VERY jealous if my mum give me or someone else a huge or something! but he still love me <3
It has a little to do with dominance BUT the breed has a seriously sensitive back. They can experience pain pretty easily. Trust me, if she wanted to draw blood she would have.
Our mini doxie only does this when we try to take a steak bone away from her. Otherwise, she whines when we DON't pick her up or let her sit on our laps.
It's probably because her back hurts. She looks to be no spring chicken. My winer Dieter does the same thing but he's got back issues (as most elderly wieners do)
You really need to get control of that dog. I say this to a lot of owners, its not just important for you (To avoid getting a nasty bite) but its important for the dog. Thousands of dogs get put down every year because they bite a kid and its not the dogs fault. Its the owner, who sees aggression like this and fails to remind the dog who is boss. Assert dominance over that animal, or risk losing it =-/..Breaks my heart when we have to put dogs down because of careless owners.
i have a dachshund that looks like that, but never does that to me, because he knows im in charge. I taught him at a young age to obey me. Dont fret, you have plenty of time to get rid of this bad behavior. You should read some articles online.
My doxie does the same thing when she's laying down and gets "jostled"....and ryanmanawesome is right...I would just make a sudden loud noise that will get her out that state of mind.. ..probably won't stop the behavior totally, but will snap her out of it for that minute..I mean she wasn't just growling.. she bit you.
Dogs have different personalitys.. My puppy who is part husky part lab even gets upset and growls sometimes. Its not moody, their probably just aggravated.
dachshunds rock- i have 2- it is NOT in their nature. they are as sweet as can be. the only time mine are grumpy is when my other dog is bugging them.
My doxie mix growls at me if I disturb her while she is sleeping. Looks like doxies are naturally grumpy.

Honestly I don't see what people's fucking problem is. You're not being cruel. That dog just probably doesnt feel like being picked up right now.
adamevans69 1 year ago
I don't know if you are aware of this, but the back teeth of a dachshund are VERY sharp and serrated, and that dog can take the flesh completely off your hands really easily. I had dachshunds 43 years. Trust me. They ALL can do that.
jbearden 1 year ago
dachshunds are very selfish and clever. i had one and she acted in the same manner but would never bite me after i beat her when she did that. they dont like to be carried around.
kkowall1 1 year ago
@kkowall1 both our miniature dachshunds love being handled and carried. Sometimes they ask to be picked up, other times they are picked up because we want to cuddle them or carry them.

dude, your dog should never act like that. It just shows how much she dominates you. Show her whose boss.
khipp13 1 year ago 2
My god, my dog would never dare do that if I want her out of her bed, I click my fingers and say here and out she gets. A dog should NEVER EVER react like that to it's owner. It's clear who is the boss there it's the dog and not the owner. I can take a chew out of my dogs mouth, take her food off her whilst she is eating, she will even take a chew from my mouth if I tell her to and she is so gentle. My dog is a 6 yr old Daschund cross terrier she won an award at 7 months for most gorgeous girl
Pansygarden19 1 year ago
i dont give a damn..YOUR OWN DOG ( if you had him/her first) SHOULD NEVER react that way unless: 1 you train him to be mean, 2. he has a sore spot that you keep touching on purpose repeatedly, 3. is sick with a strange illness.

@FallschirmjagerX nope, there like that because people think there cute little dogs and they don't discipline them and they get away with shit like that. i have a weenie dog and he is great but the first time he pulled that kind of shit he found out who was in charge real quick and never did it again. you need to take care of that stuff its not healthy for them and try raising a rotty like that they will chew your face off if your not a good owner
colk25446 1 year ago
@FallschirmjagerX
you have obviously never been around a miniature dachshund. they are VERY protective of their things and of their owner
staceycw4 10 months ago 3
@chronofusion your a pussy. Lol it was probably tired and the dude was annoying him. "its a danger to kids" its a daschund for crying out loud whats the worst its gonna do, give you a little cut on your finger, and make you go crying to your mum....its not a pit bull dude, relax
soccer9460 1 year ago
@chronofusion WRONG. Lots of dogs behave that way. You can see the dog didn't want to hurt his mommy. My dog used to play-growl and nip. They are just doing what comes natural to them. Natually, if a kid is going to pull a dogs ears or tail, or torment the dog, the dog will defend itself, and that has nothing to do with training. You don't train a dog to take abuse.
THE DOG DIDN'T BITE HER. IT WAS A TEASE NIP.

@chronofusion okay i bet you dont even have a dachund do you? i do and the owner knows more about the dog than you do

@chronofusion
7952M 10 months ago
@chronofusion Not EVEN. I have a dachshund and she gets randomly aggressive like that. Especially around her bed or toys. Doxies are temperamental as fuck. It's not his fault or anything. That's kind of just how they are.
jessicabreezy 9 months ago
@chronofusion
Could have been a rescued dog, too, accustomed to abuse. Looks more like the dog needs reassurance than anything.
jdavz322 8 months ago
@jdavz322 well guess what genius. i adopted a RESCUED dog ( 1 year old shizuou and no i dont care to look up the proper spelling...get over it) more than 6 years ago that was constantly having to fight for her food. and guess what else? I TRAINED her to calm down and not bite me when i put my hand near her food. You're welcome. gd..this shit is months old. move on with your life.lol.

You're too young to be on the net anyways
chronofusion 6 months ago
@chronofusion i own a mintuare dachshund and she would destory any rottweiler. she already proved it when she bite the one from across the street and had him running leaving his balls behind so dont start talking crap about small guard dogs.

BaronVonPenguin 1 year ago
My Datsun does this also when she is "jostled, " lol (She doesn't snap though...just growls) and to the people on here saying show the dog who's boss...I reprimand my dog everytime she does it, and she'll stop right then...but she still does it the next time.

SRV4evr 1 year ago
You really need to get control of that dog. I say this to a lot of owners, its not just important for you (To avoid getting a nasty bite) but its important for the dog. Thousands of dogs get put down every year because they bite a kid and its not the dogs fault. Its the owner, who sees aggression like this and fails to remind the dog who is boss. Assert dominance over that animal, or risk losing it =-/..Breaks my heart when we have to put dogs down because of careless owners.
