Japan is about the size of Washington state. As a simple matter of geography they need fewer hospitals per captia. They spend next to nothing on defense because we defend them. They enjoy a huge trade surplus with the United States. They live healthier lifestyles. Take any of these away and their system doesn't work so well.

The Interstate system was started by Eisenhower. Both sides worked for it's completion.

Pages 16-17 of the bill say no new health plans can be offered by private insurance companies. Do you understand what that means? Insurance plans change every year. They change coverage slightly or change the co-pay or the co-insurance. Every tweak creates a new plan. So you keep your current plan for one year, then it is on to the govt plan for you! Ripoff!

I lived in the UK. Both my husband and FiL needed emergency treatment at separate times in separate places, one for his heart, the other had an embolism in the middle of the night. NEITHER waited, they were seen immediately and both received stellar care. In the latter case, my FiL was in surgery within half an hour of arriving at the hospital.
People DO die waiting in the USA, usually for their insurance to okay treatments/hospital. Or because they're DENIED coverage. Doesn't happen elsewhere.

I lived in the UK and you're a liar. My husband went in to a busy hospital in the Midlands with a heart problem and was seen immediately. His father suffered an embolism overnight and was in surgery within half an hour of arriving.
Their waiting rooms are just like ours: sometimes you wait because there are more serious injuries to be dealt with.

They have probably the worst universal healthcare system of them all right now because they began shifting resources away from patient care into administration in the 70-80s; but even with its current faults it's still far better than what the US calls health coverage. LBJ changed and Bankrupted it with his "War on Poverty", that worked out well. 40 hr weeks , vacation and holiday pay, Trade Unions, which in the early days Dems sent out Pinkerton men to break up. The Interstate system was started by Eisenhower. Both sides worked for it's completion.

About 80% of Americans like their present health insurance. Obama says you can keep your insurance plan if you like it. Not true. Pages 16-17 of the bill say no new health plans can be offered by private insurance companies. Do you understand what that means? Insurance plans change every year. They change coverage slightly or change the co-pay or the co-insurance. Every tweak creates a new plan. So you keep your current plan for one year, then it is on to the govt plan for you! Ripoff!

I lived in the UK. Both my husband and FiL needed emergency treatment at separate times in separate places, one for his heart, the other had an embolism in the middle of the night. NEITHER waited, they were seen immediately and both received stellar care. In the latter case, my FiL was in surgery within half an hour of arriving at the hospital.
People DO die waiting in the USA, usually for their insurance to okay treatments/hospital. Or because they're DENIED coverage. Doesn't happen elsewhere.

I lived in the UK and you're a liar. My husband went in to a busy hospital in the Midlands with a heart problem and was seen immediately. His father suffered an embolism overnight and was in surgery within half an hour of arriving.
Their waiting rooms are just like ours: sometimes you wait because there are more serious injuries to be dealt with.
I'd be interested to know what hospital here lets you buy pain meds in the waiting room.

You say your observation has nothing to do with health care, but then you lump medical treatment in as a "reward" for working. There are millions of people in the US who work hard but still can't afford that "treat".
Also, you're not a very good observer of human nature. The UK supplies medicine, housing and a monthly stipend to those who fall below a certain income level, and yet the vast majority of its population still manages to resist going on the dole and instead works for a living.

Anyone with an ounce of intellectual integrity knows that ultimately the left intends to put the private insurance companies out of business and force everyone onto the government plan. I lived in the UK. They have probably the worst universal healthcare system of them all right now because they began shifting resources away from patient care into administration in the 70-80s; but even with its current faults it's still far better than what the US calls health coverage. Which, I might add, is also unsustainable.
