This reminds me of a Communist rally. A union label is a WARNING label - it is sewn into overpriced, low quality garbage that makes the US non-competitive.
Madonna should sing this song at the SuperBowl in Indiana, where they're trying to strip union rights right now. Can someone get a Twitter or Facebook campaign going to her on this?
I'm in the laborers union and support most of what they do, my sister works in or for an energy company that uses union mines but the union leadership was against a new mine that would employ 500 to 1000 miners,
@L188188 Every state should have a governor like Scott Walker. Government-unions are the worst unions of all. There is no way to avoid their inefficient ambition-killing ripoffs, as opposed to private sector unions. If states really want to improve their fiscal situations they must bust the government unions!
joesmoe71 We'll put your head in a vice and make you talk Chinese in front your kids. Just goofin with how ya doing Mitt? I see you're ahead in the polls. Stick it to em buddy.
I can't help but wonder how many of the union-bashing comments on this thread are from folks who would otherwise be the first to wave the flag and sing "God Bless America" when we're talking about bombing some far-off country for its oil.
I remember when I saw this commercial during the star wars Christmas special. I felt really sad that the whole endeavor went in vain and that now things are starting to fall apart.
the problem is Americans are willing to stiff people in Honduras, Bangledesh, and China, by buying cheap goods from countries that DONT allow their workers to unionize, bargain collectively against their greedy bosses, etc. If Americans, esp Democrats, cared for the poor of humanity, they wouldve tried to make a precondition to nations that want to trade with us: u have to give your workers the right to unionize, the right to have a voice, the right to be treated like humans.
@dbonacum It's kind of funny that you say that. Well, I come from Pittsburgh, a town where one in ten of us worked in steel. And 90% of those jobs were lost under the leadership of Republican Ronald Reagan during the years 1981-1983.
@petey8887 Reagan did the right thing. Detroit is a pit today, not because of big business, but because of unions. Pennsylvania steel towns are dead, not because of Reagan - but because of the greed and abuse of the unions.
@petey8887 Seriously - line workers, tightening the same 6 bolts on an assembly line, getting paid a cash salary of $60,000.00 a year plus an additional $80,000 in benefits (health care, pension, profit sharing, etc,..)
All told, they paid $120,000 a year for someone to tighten the same 6 bolts, which a robot could do better, faster and obviously cheaper. I am an IT consultant, spend most of my "free" time studying and taking certification exams, and still don't make that much. Screw unions.
@dbonacum I don't think that it's wise to make a rash generalisation about either unions or government leadership. I think that both of them played a role in the downfall of Pennsylvania steel towns and in the current state of the American auto industry. I was just saying that I think that it's funny that people blame Obama for what's happening under his watch but didn't blame Reagan for what happened during the 1980s. You can't have it both ways.
@dbonacum And remember, you wouldn't have fair pay or a five day work week or safe conditions in the workplace without unions. It's all about balance of power. Neither the unions nor the companies should have too much. Similarly, neither the successes nor the failures of industry can be placed upon either one. Industry works best when bosses and workers work together.

A canker on society finally killed-off with a dose of strong bleach. Might as well take the gas pipe now, unionista goon. It's over. You're finished, fini -- & thank GOD, it's about damned time. ;^) LOL!!
@Strazesker You're right, unions are the devil. How dare those monsters get get pay and vacations for themselves. They should just be happy working a shitty dangerous minimum wage job or not work at all.
For those of you bitching about unions, give us back your minimum wage, your vacations, your breaks, 40-hour work weeks, and all those other things you think are your "right" as workers. All the above came from the hard work of union workers who, at times, risked their families and very lives to make sure we all were treated as humans and not "disposable capital" (as some HRs call us). If the idiots in DC get their way, you'll sadly find out just what we were protecting for you.
I came here to watch this ad after I heard that it was on one of the Star Wars Christmas Special bootleg tapes and the comments were like a black hole of rage for me. What's truly disgusting about this is the fact that unions have unilaterally destroyed this country and people still defend them. Coming from the state of California, I can say what's driving us into the ground is big unions like the AFT and SEIU that practically own the state legislature. It revolts me how uninformed people can be
Unions are fine as long as they are voluntary - if I want to subvert a union with a contract with an employer, that should be purely between me and the employer. Sure, it may boost pay for the lower performing workers, but it's at the expense of those who work above and beyond. As long as a union isn't executed through the threat of force, it's completely fine. However, most unions need guns & politicians to enable their existence - that isn't moral or economically feasible in the long run.
They always blame the price of labor for outsourcing of jobs. Well, if that's true, what's really to blame- the fact that American workers demand high pay (they don't, compared to other costs) or the fact that workers in the third world are often prevented from organizing? The cause of wage disparity isn't 'greedy unions'. It's greedy capitalists stopping labor organization overseas, keeping an artificially low market. Want jobs here? Fight economic imperialism!
LET'S GET BUSY AND BRING BACK THE UNIONS! WE HAVE A BIGGER OPPORTUNITY THAN EVER BEFORE! Stand for something people! Stand up before the corporations take the whole thing! We can do this, but not if you sit on your asses, and become apathetic. Have you had enough?
Wow, now when I hear this and see current union members parading around with "hammer and sickles" on their signs, I know I've found the "Union Label"!
The ignorant who want to stay ignorant will never understand what Unions have done for this Country. They will simply rant and rave and speak fox spewz talking points.Unions are American made. With quality as the underlying standard. Corporations that go over sea for cheap labor are committing treason. And allowing the successes of American labor and invention to be exploited. The mere tolerance of buying from china is treason!
Musta struck a nerve, huh, you dumb fucking union piece of shit? How does it feel to know you ran your own jobs out of the country with your incessant whining and demanding? Just like a bunch of petulant five year olds. If unions are so great, why do you have to have the law behind you, preventing companies from shit-canning every one of your sorry asses? Ever think of that? If the employers could fire you fucking assholes, the jobs would still be here.
@greenblue1979 - Ignorant asshole, go fuck yourself on your way to hundred hour workweeks and sweatshop fires that kill everyone in the shop. When you finally grow the fuck up you'll realize that your mommy and daddy's way of life was earned with union blood sweat and tears you fucking moron.
Or maybe it's because these greedy union people wanted more and more and government wanted more and more from those "evil businesses" "evil capitalists". I would never buy from a union if I could. Why do you think so many California businesses are moving from California to Texas? I'll tell you why. Cheaper Labor, Lower Taxes, Less regulation, Less property cost. California with the same tax rate is going to bring in $500 million less this year while Texas is expecting higher revenue with less.
My mom used to work with a textile manufacturer in Philly (not sure if she was union). I used to hang out when I was sick and out of school at about age 6. Some of my favorite moments hanging out with those hard working women/men. Then Reagan came along and took care of that.
We need to unfreeze Hoffa from his cryogenic containment system so he can get back to fixing and organizing the REAL labor movement! Strike the company and if they try to hold out and not comply, we march on their headquarters and kick them right up the fucking ass! Baseball bats and tire irons upside the head for every corporate douchebag hack sitting in their office on their fat asses, drinking coffee and eating donuts while the workers are out busting ass to survive!
@Necroticpus If you union fuckers had a brain among you, you'd go make your own way in the world instead of coveting the success of others. Companies don't exist to provide you a job, slacker. Union slugs are the worst-performing, most hateful pieces of shit on any job site.
@GARN3240 Just sit there, shut the fuck and learn from your betters, you dumb nigger. You've never held down any job in your pitiful life except cleaning out the peep show booths in adult book stores and swallowing dicks for a nickel a pop. Your dumbass parents must be so proud. Fucking stubby dick loser. Go back to rooting through your dad's dirty clothes hamper on a smelly minge binge, freakshow.
@GARN3240 Go back to making minimum wage, you fucking worthless loser. You're a bum and that's all you'll ever be, living on your welfare girlfriend's section 8 apartment, having your mom wash your clothes and dumpster diving to feed yourself. I suppose if I was a dumbass, know-nothing, unproductive, grab-asstic piece of amphibian shit I would be jealous of everyone else too.
@GARN3240 That is not the point. Nobody owes anybody a job. The point is, "an honest days work for an honest days pay". Simple as that. Otherwise, we are third-worldly.
If unions were the culprit the companies would have moved to another American town. The reason companies outsource is because of tax dodging and the exploitation of desperate people in foreign lands including child labor. It's about greed and no sense of patriotism for ones homeland. Remember most of these companies were invented here in the U.S.A. The motto used to be "an honest wage for an honest days work". Now it's "made in china". Way to go rethuglicans.
@arliewonton Yes, because unions aren't everywhere. 'International Brotherhood of Greasy Fat Fucks Who Change the Toilet Paper'; 'International Brotherhood of Greasy Fat Fucks Who Transport the Toilet Paper from the Closet to the Stall'; 'International Brotherhood of Greasy Fat Fucks Who Throw Away the Empty Roll', etc, ad nauseum.''
What a joke! We should invite these people back on an episode of "where are they now"....oh wait, the Union's dried up the companies these people worked for, so they folded and all of these people are out of jobs now! Way to go Unions! Keep up the "good work" for honest, hard working Americans! HAHAHAHA!
@fathermocker123 I didn't blame the workers for anything! You people always make it sound like if somebody is not fond of unions, they automatically don't like the american worker! What a farce! I think that hard working americans need to have their work available to them in the US at a good wage with good benefits. But these unions promise things to the worker that they can't deliver on; like 100% pensions after retirement, even the US military doesn't get that. get real!
@smcentee6922 there ain no such thing as "these unions".Different unions have different policies.Other than that,if you are what you say,you should support the unions cause its the only way the workers will get what they deserve.Or do you think the capitalists will pay what they should out of their good hearts?
I see, you blame the organised workers who fought exploitation for the decline of manufacturing industry in the US. It is in fact the company/business owners who have found workers overseas (or more commonly, over the border in Mexico) to exploit, workers that are not unionised and subject to harsh and brutal treatment by domestic and foreign bosses. It is honest of you to declare that you are against the American worker and would rather side with the exploiter than the exploited.
@wheelygood9 I didn't blame the workers for anything! You people always make it sound like if somebody is not fond of unions, they automatically don't like the american worker! What a farce! I think that hard working americans need to have their work available to them in the US at a good wage with good benefits. But these unions promise things to the worker that they can't deliver on; like 100% pensions after retirement, even the US military doesn't get that good of a retirement package!
OK, we are boycotting Arizona because of the immigration law and cancelling the conventions. Doesn't that hurt the maids, cooks, and service people (Union People)? Who's standing up for them?
OK, we are boycotting Arizona because of the immigration law and cancelling the conventions. Doesn't that hurt the maids, cooks, and service people (Union People)? Who's standing up for them?
Coming from a textile town who was outsourced I actually know more about this than propagandists like Glenn Beck. This information comes from someone who was in charge of moving the mill from my town to Honduras. The truth is clothing was outsourced because you can build new more efficient machinery subsidized by governments who let you have unlimited political control and STILL have access to America's Market place. Labor costs are something like 15% of textile production costs.
Nowadays that union label would cost you an additional $10. No wonder the chinese have taken all of your union jobs. They get paid $2 a day. Union workers get paid $2 when they take a piss.
When unions usually mean higher costs, especially these days, I am pretty sure a union label is more or less consumer repellent. Don't worry though, there are other labels which are as equally ineffective... GM comes to mind...
This is a keeper. Thank you so much for sharing it with us. Willie certainly made the most of his 15 seconds of fame. He looked pretty good back then....
I'm sick of cheap crap from overseas "bleeding" cheap red dye all over my wash load. In the USA (I think...hope?) we still have standards that garment manufacturers must live up to...
including...
making ALL GARMENTS colorfast,
by taking an extra step during the dying process...
is this true?
Or are we all destined to wear "pink' underwear and socks forever?
Tx to AOL they posted this Link it on their web site so it can get more hits and people can be aware that jobs been stolen by politicans like DICK head Bush in past too and now time to end " Free Trde" we live in US -buy in $ ,spend it $ so we want to jobs that pay in $ too-Bring Jobs + Troops both Home
The corporations stole these people's wages adn pensions and called them stock options and executive bonuses! Wake up America! How big was your bonus last year (or ever)! Yet, you still support the corporations. How little respect you have for yourself or your buying power.
Well.....because they all demanded the union label....the factories all moved overseas and all of these nice ladies and gentlemen are unemployed. It's that simple. For too many years union members thought that the union signed their paycheck and not the company. Well, I guess that was not true!
This reminds me of a Communist rally. A union label is a WARNING label - it is sewn into overpriced, low quality garbage that makes the US non-competitive.

Necroticpus 1 year ago
@GARN3240 That is not the point. Nobody owes anybody a job. The point is, "an honest days work for an honest days pay". Simple as that. Otherwise, we are third-worldly.

If unions were the culprit the companies would have moved to another American town. The reason companies outsource is because of tax dodging and the exploitation of desperate people in foreign lands including child labor. It's about greed and no sense of patriotism for ones homeland. Remember most of these companies were invented here in the U.S.A. The motto used to be "an honest wage for an honest days work". Now it's "made in china". Way to go rethuglicans.
arliewonton 1 year ago
@arliewonton Yes, because unions aren't everywhere. 'International Brotherhood of Greasy Fat Fucks Who Change the Toilet Paper'; 'International Brotherhood of Greasy Fat Fucks Who Transport the Toilet Paper from the Closet to the Stall'; 'International Brotherhood of Greasy Fat Fucks Who Throw Away the Empty Roll', etc, ad nauseum.''

unions are why companies outsource

What a joke! We should invite these people back on an episode of "where are they now"....oh wait, the Union's dried up the companies these people worked for, so they folded and all of these people are out of jobs now! Way to go Unions! Keep up the "good work" for honest, hard working Americans! HAHAHAHA!

@smcentee6922 yeah.its the workers fault that corporations fall apart.not the bosses, not the capitalists,no.its the workers fault.
fathermocker123 1 year ago
@fathermocker123 I didn't blame the workers for anything! You people always make it sound like if somebody is not fond of unions, they automatically don't like the american worker! What a farce! I think that hard working americans need to have their work available to them in the US at a good wage with good benefits. But these unions promise things to the worker that they can't deliver on; like 100% pensions after retirement, even the US military doesn't get that. get real!
smcentee6922 1 year ago
@smcentee6922 there ain no such thing as "these unions".Different unions have different policies.Other than that,if you are what you say,you should support the unions cause its the only way the workers will get what they deserve.Or do you think the capitalists will pay what they should out of their good hearts?
fathermocker123 1 year ago 2
@smcentee6922

Labor costs are something like 15% of textile production costs.

you fail, please try again ^_^

Nowadays that union label would cost you an additional $10. No wonder the chinese have taken all of your union jobs. They get paid $2 a day. Union workers get paid $2 when they take a piss.

When unions usually mean higher costs, especially these days, I am pretty sure a union label is more or less consumer repellent. Don't worry though, there are other labels which are as equally ineffective... GM comes to mind...

No idea about USA specifically; but to my knowledge even leading brands, american and european, utilize cheap foreign labor and sneaky supply chains.
I think actually... that the keyword here isnt "overseas" but "cheap crap" ^_^

The corporations stole these people's wages adn pensions and called them stock options and executive bonuses! Wake up America! How big was your bonus last year (or ever)! Yet, you still support the corporations. How little respect you have for yourself or your buying power.

i know!
they make hte claim that teachers are paid too much
except they earn about 1/1000th of an NBA player or a CEO of a corporation
now, honestly, teachers earn around 80,000 or under a year, excluding taxes
and they are the foundation of society
if teachers don't deserve to be paid, then who does?
fibbingcats 1 year ago
Well.....because they all demanded the union label....the factories all moved overseas and all of these nice ladies and gentlemen are unemployed. It's that simple. For too many years union members thought that the union signed their paycheck and not the company. Well, I guess that was not true!
