  • it's called a governor

  • @waana2000 how do you take it off?

  • 1st thru 3rd gearing sounds nice

  • mine tops out the same

  • i got an 03 v6 thats hits the same 108...

  • you must have a limiter cause my brother's 02 will do 120 easy

  • @soulevs the limited is the highest trim. Obvi

  • u have GOVERNER which is a rev limiter. take that off and you'll go to around 120mph

  • anyone else see that 12.9 mpg? YEAH!

  • i got an 02 4.6 tops out at about the same soon to b changed tho ;)

  • @MUSTANGGT1365 i think youll need to change the computer, seems like others have a computer limited. i changed my computer and ecu tune and mine maxes at 116 and then it is limited

  • @cyaanara dosent it change if u get a performance tune ? i heard u get it tuned that way and it wont cutt off at all :o tht would b badass ima try tht out

  • you guys do realize that is a mustang engine right? gt-40 intake and everything, even a 4 speed transmission, at least mine does. i have 1996 ford explorer xlt 5.0 all wheel drive. look it up.

  • 108 shouldnt be the top speed.. i have an 04 explorer v8 and i got it to 116mph

  • @cyaanara oh that's weird.

  • @cyaanara my 04 taurus v6 has a limiter at 108 also

  • @woofer987 really? strange. mine doesnt have one.. then again i got an ecu tune.

  • @cyaanara The most i got my Mountaineer V6 is 115mph, Idk if the engine size matters in this case.

  • @cyaanara what axle ratio do you have. i haven't been able to get mine over 95 because of the roads and highways always so busy buy i bet that if you have the 3.27 like me we can both get to 116. if you hav the towing package and the shorter 3.55 or 3.73 gears it's prob lower because the engine has to rev higher and prob hits near redline quicker.

  • @cyaanara yeah 108mph is wrong it will easy get 120mph +

  • @darcyjake1 Sure, if you manage to remove the top speed limiter.

  • @cyaanara My '04 Explorer cuts out around 108-110.

  • Your right. Your all nice people. Thank god we live in Obama's America. USA USA

  • You should have said "lets see an old civic pull 6600 lbs" not "your civic" . That implies ownership. Explorers don't come with English manuals do they.

  • @craiggribbs i never said any of that dooood. i think you need glasses! the guy silverrodeo said that, not me!

  • @jrappy87 i didnt realize you needed glasses to hear?

  • @schobangman I said he needed glasses cause he didn't read the thread right.

  • 0-60 in 9 seconds. LOL. That's equal to an OLD civic.

  • @craiggribbs it's def less than 9 seconds buddy, like 8.4. and it's a freakin explorer, people don't get it for speed they get it for towing power and an overall good car. obvi.

  • You posted it because you thought it was fast and impressive. Towing.....ok. Good car.............hahahahahaha. its a ford. have fun replacing the tranny.

  • @craiggribbs i didn't post it cause i though it was fast and impressive, i posted it because it's one of the only youtube vids of an explorer going from 0- top speed. ford has the best quality over any car manufact, so i don't know what reggie bush you're smoking.

  • @jrappy87 I don't own a civic and don't want to. I have a Silverado. It isn't an awesome race truck like yours is though.

  • @craiggribbs i never said you do own a civic...

  • @craiggribbs lets see your old civic tow 6600 lbs lol

  • 0-60 in 9 seconds. LOL. That's equal to an OLD civic.

  • haha wow, my 96 4.0 will do all of 115 with offroad tires

  • Damn you went so fast the bright lights came on. Prepare ship for LUDICROUS speed!

  • @LaochWins lol ya.

  • I get to drive an 02 4.6L mountaineer sometimes, and its really quick, especially once the revs get going after 30mph or so. And the midrange is awesome too, especially from 45 or 50mph. I think its the combination of torque, high revs, gearing and efficiently-working engine that makes these go. Is your explorer stock at the time of this video? Also, the one I drive is probably quicker than stock because we replaced the original, average tires with much better performing 255s.

  • @373axle of course it's stock....it's an explorer lol.

  • @373axle i got my 02 V8 up to 115 once. i didnt knowthe V8'scame in AWD.

  • IF anything gets in your way its game over, going that fast with all that weight there's no stopping you. Other than that Nice Car :D AWD

  • @stoone113 thanks. I like to live on the edge. :-J

  • DAM!!!!!! I just LOVE the sound of a Ford V8 racing.

  • @monkeymarine291 What's funny is you consider an XLT almost fully loaded... But there is no way a V6 is quicker than a v8...

  • I have an 02, no way in hell is a v6 ever going to beat these v8's, for a suv, these things are SUPRISINGLY quick.

  • yupp ive seen this a time or two in real life, the speed limiter is jerky as hell at 108, it scared me the first time i did it lol

  • @dukeboy11134 hope you were careful going that fast!!

  • @monkeymarine291 I call bullshit on that.

  • does any1 kno why my 5.0. wxpoler keeps shaking i cant pass 75mph

  • @portugal4life89 you need a new transmission you probably broke one of your gears, if its automatic i'm guessing it is?

  • @stoone113 ya it's automatic. my tranny sucks.

  • @monkeymarine291 no way in hell i blew my buddys v6's doors off with my v8

  • my dad took off the limiter in his 2002 explorer xlt he has been up to 115. if the massachusetts state troopers wasnt so strict he could go faster than that

  • @monkeymarine291 i imagine the V8 sounds beastier though.

  • @jrappy87 The v6's sound do not even compare to the v8's man! Get an SCT tune and get that limiter removed!

  • weak i did 114 in my "00 v6 xlt

  • @imwithderf14 who cares, your explorer is a cheap XLT.

  • @jrappy87 whats the diff between xl and xlt because my ford ranger is an xlt and its fully loaded but i see other xlts that arent and by the way i love the sound of yours

  • @joeldude76 a ford explorer doesn't come in a xl? xls, xlt, eddie baugher, and limtied editions are available. if you go to fords website and build an xlt explorer, you can choose features that can be on a limited. the limited comes with features that are standard while those same features on an xlt you would have to pay extra for.

  • @jrappy87 my 02 XLT was the best car i ever hadden even nicer than my xc90 personally leather seats power everything and it got the job done i dont care much for creature comforts.

  • @jrappy87 HEY MAN... DONT GO BAGGIN ON XLT's... THEIR NICE I GOT ONE!!! OLDER THO! LOL

  • @jrappy87 You paid thousands more for a few internal changes, good job bro.

  • @jrappy87 ....the XLT is the highest trim available on the explorer. You are a dumbass

  • Comment removed

  • @soulevs Limited (Order from lowest to highest trim = XL, XLT, Eddie Bauer, Limited)

  • @RCH800 The XLT is the limited. As long as its a V8, anyone stupid enough to spend extra money might as well be burning it

  • @jrappy87 huh, must electronically limit the governor, which i'm assuming probably uses the same technology as the cruise control to keep the speed at 108, i wonder what would happen if you started to go down a steep hill, if it would apply the brakes or what. i assume there must be some way to reprogram the computer. i'm interested now.

  • @KingofComputing i would be afraid to go that fast down a hill but my car isn't sophisticated enough for it to put the brakes on. so i'm guessing the car would just keep going faster.

  • @jrappy87 really, it's supposed to, my 03 V6 explorer does when i'm on the highway, i can feel it apply brakes when going down hill on rt 95 when it's set to 70 mph

  • @KingofComputing i have a limited. if i have mine set on 50 MPH and go down a steep hill, the transmission shifts into a lower gear to try and stop the car, i think it turns overdrive off, then if it goes over 15 MPH, the cruise control shuts off. are you sure it applies the breaks and it's not just the transmission downshifting?

  • @jrappy87 that may be it, i thought that's what it was but my dad kept telling me, no no no, it's applying the brakes, so maybe that's the feeling is the downshifting.

  • @jrappy87 mine is a limited as well 05...it does in fact downshift it never applies the breaks as far as it going 15mph over the only way you can do that w/ the cruise on is if you accelerate or going off a steeeeeep hill cause the cruise will always keep the vehicle at the speed within a marginal excess/minus

  • what exactly happens when you hit the max speed, does the engine just not excelerate anymore past that, or does it cute engine power until you slow down to like 100 or something?

  • how did u told her to give it to u, mommy mommy can i have the car ???

  • @hilobude123 wow i juz got owned by an 11 yr old with his moms suv well its gotta be better than the family van atleast ppl mite thank your sister is your gf rite?

  • @hilobude123 yeah really how do you own it?? does your mom or dad have it and you go around sayin its yours?? cuz they probably dont even own it and are makin payments and its a ford it mite not even still run when your old enough to drive jr

  • Thats cool, I am 15 soon 16 ''own'' the 2006 Ford Explorer V8. Its an awesome car, 0-100 km/h in 5.6 seconds.

  • no it doesnt dont lie to yourself lol

  • ohh ok that makes more sense.

  • how do you own a car at 11 years old???

  • man look at a that baby go!

  • Yup...ford all the way.

  • nice my mom has got the V6 but it can still move for an 03
