Heroes 3 is the best Heroes ever. Shortly followed by this, fifth one. But since I played Heroes 3 too much when I was a kid, It's time to move on. I play Heroes 5 almost every day. Dungeon and Haven for the win!

I really hate the graphics style of Heroes 5. The units feel like they're trying to mimic Warcraft, (which is funny, because Warcraft seems to have originally been mimicking Might and Magic) and I can't make any sense of the architecture. Call me picky, or too realistic, but I don't see how or why you would plant houses on the side of a castle, or why you would place the barracks as far from the gates as possible, some hundred meters in the air.
I never played Warhammer, wouldn't know. I suppose the whole Demons are actually aliens bent on conquering the universe, planet by planet that Might and Magic and Warcraft share never sat particularly well with me.
is your new PC a laptop ? if so remember a laptop will always have worse performance even if they have better hardware because a laptops lack of airflow will heat up your GPU/CPU witch will force them to run slower then they really are.

I respectfully disagree. Just look at Mega Man 9. It went back to 8-bit graphics (way more primiative than HOMM3), and after its first week it was in the top 20 selling Wii games of all time.
yea, mega man is a legend alright, but really they need to resurect those type of games in 3d graphics at HD, just like king of fighters, the one coming soon on consoles.

What I don't like about HOMMV is that these are not "towns", every city is so "magnificent". Every single undeveloped hole looks like a wonder of the world. It's simply pretentious! The Barbarian camp is the only one that keeps the spirit of the previous games. Also it's interesting how there's ALWAYS dusk in Sylvan towns, moonlit night in Necropolis and dawn at Haven O_o
I don't get it cause in HOMM3 the town screen was always the same no matter if it was a Dungeon town on the surface or a Tower town in the dessert (i don't know how i managed to do it but i also got that situation in a scenario)! Plus i like the feeling you get when you build those magnificent buildings after your hard work and you look at the beautiful city you constructed (and the producers designed)!!
heroes5 are great but i dont like all the creatures i mean where are my favorites : nagas (wtf is that stupid lion thing ?),medusas,harpies and so on.My opinion is that academy (my favorite in 3 and 4) is the most scrued up like what is up with that jini it lukes like shit and where are nagas????????? This game would rock so much with those creatures.
Yes, the loss of the Nagas was rather bothersome, but mechanically all the Academ creatures still work almost exactly to their Tower counterparts. Additional abilities like the Master Gremlins repairing the Golems, and the entire mini-artifacts make the Academy much more variable than the Tower. I only wish the V Skyship would reveal the whole map like the III Skyship did.
What's wiht you and Nagas? Btw that lion thing (Rajas) work exactly like nagas! Blood sisters=harpies but medusas have no relatives in 5 though Shadow Matriarchs act a lot better than the medusas as the "top dog" ranged unit for Dungeon!

Games nowadays are graphically insane, I'm not so much a fan of graphics as gameplay and music. This still renditioned the old gameplay of the past games and allowed a few other things as well as great music. The 3rd one if not mentioned already accounted for graphics very, very well especially for its time and was a unique game. This game strays from the 3's story standards, uses popularized ideals of today as themes for its monsters, towns, etc (many elf units) and is made by ubisoft not 3DO.
well that's only because people like you fall for commercialised games like H5... the series is getting raped just like any other game that has been succesfull in the past and is now "good" just because the previous games of the series were good... oh and, "better units?", have you seen what they have done to the Genies? They made them pillowheads named Djinns... they replaced the Naga with some kind of weird tigers on two legs... the Heroes series were always focused on mythology... H5 isn't.

HELP PLEASE!! I bought this game and installed it onto my vista laptop.
When i click on the icon it works up to the point of the main menu which also works (theres a demon in the background fighting a dude) and then when i click on something like a mission or scenario or i load game it will load and when thats finished the game minimizes, it says: This pprogram has stopped working and i have to close it!

I think it is just crappy Vista. I tried it on Vista and had the same problem. The game worked fine on XP, though. Screw Bill Gates and his Vista. And screw the fact that all laptops nowadays come with Windows Vista installed.

lol well the point of the game is the same, the camps are the same, yea a different company made it but it is still heroes of might and magic, no matter who makes it, i enjoyed it, and the expansion made it alot better
but no... since 3DO focused on Mythology and Ubisoft invented their own (bizzare) creatures, i find H5 less attractive than the other ones.... i mean, what they did to some of the creatures is just bad... And some people don't love the game for the play-style, but for the mythology, the story, the way the creatures are drawn (same style since H1 to H3, and then a refreshed one in H4, but a completely new one in H5) etc...
well the bottom line is i still enjoyed it lol, i played heroes 3 before it, and i loved it i was addicted but when 5 came out i like it more graphic wise and i thought the creatures looked good i like both 3 and 5 in someways 5 better and some 3 better, like the points you showed the characters look bad and some creatures shouldve been brought back but thats what makes 3 better, 5 is good in someways, but im not that picky on some games
Heroes 4 is strategically the best and most interesting game, but sadly underdeveloped. Heroes 3 is a timeless classic, and so is Heroes 2, though H2 was probably the ugliest looking. Heroes 1 was ridiculously unbalanced but cute nonetheless. Heroes 5 is just like H3, only it looks like Warcraft 3
Warcraft 3, Dakedoom? Heroes 5 does not look like Warcraft 3... It looks just like any other graphicly over-stuffed game created in the past year or two. And the gameplay is not nearly like H3... H3 has creatures pulled out of mythology, while H5 has new, completely fictional creatures, or really stupidly remodeled old ones (example. genie = jinn)...
It's because 3DO sold to Ubisoft, and the series are ruined now...
The best part of Heroes is Heroes III , but i like also Heroes 4 because it shows what's happening after the big boom when the two swords met. Heroes V is something that ruined the whole "Heroes" idea.

Heroes of Might and Magic 3 is hands down the best of them all, like you said it's not quite as intense or graphically advanced, but it sure is the most defining version in the series.
If youve only played Heroes V, don't completely base your judgment of the series off of it. Play some of the earlier ones and you'll find you enjoy them even more.
I must agree with sinnernthefirst, heroes 3 rules, and I think heroes 2 is the second best. But the 5th game still beats the crap out of the worthless 4th.
....tsk tsk get back to 4 give it a try, of course if you say 3 is a masterpiece and you have never played heroes 2 you cannot see why 4 is excellent, even if maps on the 3 are better.

The biggest gripe I have against Heroes V is its exclusive compatibility with XP. It does NOT work on Vista!

Everyone says that Heroes 3 is best and 4 is worst..i just bought both in same pack with all expancions...I like both :) I play Heroes 4 and when il get bored, i start to play 3 ^^

Games nowadays are graphically insane, I'm not so much a fan of graphics as gameplay and music. This still renditioned the old gameplay of the past games and allowed a few other things as well as great music. The 3rd one if not mentioned already accounted for graphics very, very well especially for its time and was a unique game. This game strays from the 3's story standards, uses popularized ideals of today as themes for its monsters, towns, etc (many elf units) and is made by ubisoft not 3DO.

well that's only because people like you fall for commercialised games like H5... the series is getting raped just like any other game that has been succesfull in the past and is now "good" just because the previous games of the series were good... oh and, "better units?", have you seen what they have done to the Genies? They made them pillowheads named Djinns... they replaced the Naga with some kind of weird tigers on two legs... the Heroes series were always focused on mythology... H5 isn't.

HELP PLEASE!! I bought this game and installed it onto my vista laptop.
When i click on the icon it works up to the point of the main menu which also works (theres a demon in the background fighting a dude) and then when i click on something like a mission or scenario or i load game it will load and when thats finished the game minimizes, it says: This pprogram has stopped working and i have to close it!
Please, anyone who knows what to do please send me a message!

I think it is just crappy Vista. I tried it on Vista and had the same problem. The game worked fine on XP, though. Screw Bill Gates and his Vista. And screw the fact that all laptops nowadays come with Windows Vista installed.

lol well the point of the game is the same, the camps are the same, yea a different company made it but it is still heroes of might and magic, no matter who makes it, i enjoyed it, and the expansion made it alot better

but no... since 3DO focused on Mythology and Ubisoft invented their own (bizzare) creatures, i find H5 less attractive than the other ones.... i mean, what they did to some of the creatures is just bad... And some people don't love the game for the play-style, but for the mythology, the story, the way the creatures are drawn (same style since H1 to H3, and then a refreshed one in H4, but a completely new one in H5) etc...

well the bottom line is i still enjoyed it lol, i played heroes 3 before it, and i loved it i was addicted but when 5 came out i like it more graphic wise and i thought the creatures looked good i like both 3 and 5 in someways 5 better and some 3 better, like the points you showed the characters look bad and some creatures shouldve been brought back but thats what makes 3 better, 5 is good in someways, but im not that picky on some games

Heroes 4 is strategically the best and most interesting game, but sadly underdeveloped. Heroes 3 is a timeless classic, and so is Heroes 2, though H2 was probably the ugliest looking. Heroes 1 was ridiculously unbalanced but cute nonetheless. Heroes 5 is just like H3, only it looks like Warcraft 3

Warcraft 3, Dakedoom? Heroes 5 does not look like Warcraft 3... It looks just like any other graphicly over-stuffed game created in the past year or two. And the gameplay is not nearly like H3... H3 has creatures pulled out of mythology, while H5 has new, completely fictional creatures, or really stupidly remodeled old ones (example. genie = jinn)...
It's because 3DO sold to Ubisoft, and the series are ruined now...

The best part of Heroes is Heroes III , but i like also Heroes 4 because it shows what's happening after the big boom when the two swords met. Heroes V is something that ruined the whole "Heroes" idea.

Heroes of Might and Magic 3 is hands down the best of them all, like you said it's not quite as intense or graphically advanced, but it sure is the most defining version in the series.
If youve only played Heroes V, don't completely base your judgment of the series off of it. Play some of the earlier ones and you'll find you enjoy them even more.

and personallity i think it is probably the best strategy game ive ever played

although i am a straight A student
it test my ability of strategy and logic to the limit and beyond
yes all the other ones are just as good
but hopefully if they continued the trilogy than we can say more but rite now im thinking there all just as good
