What an overrated and obnoxious film! Through and through. Zappa WAS right about the sixties. haha Though I suppose it's better than all the porn that country is churning out now. Let's hear it for freedom and capitalism.
Oh, and by the very end, the scenes of a war. Lots of explosions and definetely we can think that people are being hurt. And that's the society that they live in. And they are forced to conform and say they are 'happy', although they live in a society that makes war and wants them to force to be happy according to what they say it's supposed to be 'happy'.
Yeah, and by the end we see that the freedom they seeked just got the in trouble, because the greater and powerful system they lived in wanted it so. So their human necessities for attention and comfortability yelled louder, and they had to conform again. As they say: "If we're good and hard-working, we'll be happy, so let's clean it all up."
But the the chandelier falls on them... so they go back to their first state, as hurt and prisoner to the powerful system.
At 51:40, when she talks about how she was concerned that the gardener didn't notice them and she felt invisible, we can clearly see how people want to exclude who are not according to the standards of their society. Once these two girls decided to be individuals, they were excluded. But her concern shows that, although they eagerly want to be individuals, they are still human beings that miss the human interaction, and the fear of the lack of it is what forces people to conform to the system.
They tried to do everything they could, even eat non-stop, to relieve their need for freedom. But society was so reproving and strong, that their efforts to go against it would often end up to hurt them, and make them feel like nothing was ever enough.
Their robotic talk in the beginning = represents them as part of a big mass, allienated by a system, a hypocritical society.
The tree in the start = represents the tree of knowledgement of good and evil, from biblical story. These girls ate that fruit and fell, it meant they were freed from the rules of society.
Their glutton = Society reproved their freedom, so nothing they did was enough to stop their bore of that, so they could only relieve their repressed hyperactivity by eating a lot.
I have no idea how this ended up on the suggestions for the video I was watching but I am saving it for later.
