  • I had never heard played on guitar

  • Great job mate! I love how precise you play and how much feeling you put into it! I also uploaded an interpretation of this song just recently. It's in the video responces, you should check it out. Peace.

  • @PerpetualBassist Thanks! Also great job as well! I always like hearing this piece played, so much harmony going on and fun lines to play. I need to revisit this in the woodshed, thanks for the inspiration and most excellent playing!

  • The Final chord Is a WONG Maj 7????? or not??????In any case the bass tone is...horrific!!!!! (in this recording, i hope not, live) REMEMBER, his piece was played by GLENN GOULD......the " Double of GOD"

  • Great interpretation ! All rubatos and ritenutos works very well in this piece .I prefer this version than Jaco's

  • Nicely Done. You even got his tone

  • DUDE! How long have you been playing? And, how long did it take you to learn this thing?

I started learning it last week, and it's kicking my arse. I've been playing bass since 1992. I have HORRIBLE memory. I have to practice a passage a million times. Hell, there was a time a few years ago I could play "Teen Town" (at about half speed), but now I've completely forgotten it.

    This was pretty damn good.

  • you think this is a bass chromatic??i think this is a classic guitar solo...

  • amazing.. great stuff, awesome playing and great sounding bass

  • Good playing, I'm impressed. =)

  • tu es de montreal ?

tu donnes des cours ? =p

  • Incredible.

  • Amazing man!

would that happen to be a Lakland skyline series bass?

  • You play the first part above the 12th fret, I always played that part low. Looks easyer the way you do it!

    Nice played.

  • some parts sound like the bach cello suite

  • i tried playing this song.........so fucking hard. dude you are incredible.

  • What kind of bass are you playing on? fender jazz?

  • @scuba9891 It's a G&L

  • please watch my videos and leave comments;), I play some songs from Jaco like Chromatic Fantasy you can find them on my channel

  • Fanastic playing..

  • thats a great playing men ......

pastorius is a really good influence for every bass player ......

im working in this cover too

    its a really good arrangement

  • 0:10 oops ...but great finsh

  • fua very very very goooood

    i like it a lot!

  • my god!!!!

  • precisamente las fantasias se basaban en improvisaciones...

    muy bien

  • that's amazing

  • sick as fuck. but i dont like the improves.

  • you have just made me to decide to quit on playing bass!!!

  • speed is not all...

you have to get a good sound too

  • Trust me i know, i spent age at each speed level making sure my muting and fingering sounded clean.

  • aaa dude that little 'sweep' thing on 0:13 is is so well played, good feel and timing!

  • Soberbio!

  • Lots of potential. Keep practicing.

  • GREAT !! LOVE THAT TUNE.

i have been with jaco once and i ask play that for me and after listen that played from you make tears in my eyes..

thanks man ,nice what nice can be .

    thanks in deed.

  • @schimmelpenninq put up a video of you playing this at full speed and we'll see whos is better

  • YES!!! ima beginner any tips?

  • Play as much as you can, whenever you can :-)

  • As a bassist I would recommend...good finger and fretting technique, using all four left hand fingers, one fret one finger rule, practice alternating picking any way you choose, develop your own style! But MOST IMPORTANTLY try and read alot of music! Not so much to be able to read a A or a Eb but to recognize rhythms when you see them! Having good timing is the most important, if you dont have that nothing else matters! Good luck!

  • very bach sounding. sounds nice

  • EVrry nice man

  • very good. Very fast. I do not like your added picking and notes. you didint even play the last note of the song.

  • i agree. anyway not to judge very good.

  • Bach on this guitar...nice joke XD

  • it's a fender bass, seems a jazzbass to me with a precision neck...

  • Could be anything from a cheap fender rip-off to a Sadowsky. What makes you so shure of it being a Fender?

  • It's a G&L JB-2.

    Great bass's.

  • Yeah, I read that later on. I just hate in when people assume everything is a Fender...

  • Yeah, so do I. G&L's are amazing bass's which is why I wish they get the credit they deserve! :-)

  • Damn, man, I love the tone of that bass. Can't get enough.

  • G&L = <3

  • fantastic what bass do you have?

  • G&L JB2

  • It´s fantastic!!!!!!!!

  • wow,that was amazing.

  • I love the tone.

  • Complimenti !

  • precious,,,YOU ARE SOUL LIGHT IMPRESIONANTE

  • Amazing

  • Amazing speed, articulation and sound perfectly! Great work!

  • i didnt know this was possible but...i think you're taking it a bit fast :O

  • no this is the right speed.

  • Excellent! I enjoy your videos very much. Keep up the great work. You are an inspiration.

  • I wish I could play this.... Does anyone have some good warm ups I could use so I can get used to playing like this?

  • scales, scales, scales, learn your scales and play them FAST! keep on keeping on

  • Thats amazing! im currently working on it too :)

  • Man you are killing me :) Great !

  • I learned sth from bach, still think bass is not the right instrument to play that. You played good, yet the sound is so far from a decent piano player, or cello, or harpsichord. Too difficult to play it and to express feelings through it without making it a pure exercise

  • It's probably just my playing which is lacking expression and merely a technical exercise. The reason I say this is because if Bela Fleck can make classical music expressive on a banjo then I think it can be done on any instrument. Expression aside I think this piece is great for practicing technique on the electric bass.

  • You right man!Keep it up,you are very good..

  • @lordkrandel

the beauty of bach's compositions is that they are written with the notes in mind, not the instrument. you can transpose a bach piece to any instrument and if played properly, the notes will speak for themselves.

  • @lordkrandel I don't think the bass is the WRONG instrument for playing this, it's just not normally done this way. But if you hear Jaco's playing of this, he's just brilliant.

  • @lordkrandel bass + bach = da bomb

  • sick bass.

  • i'm learning this right now, i am four measures from the end and about to work on speed, since i am only playing it at like 85 bpm, but it is a bitch to learn, and i am loving every second of it. kudos to you my friend, i believe i will play it similarly to you at my recital.

  • I tried playing this.

    I failed.

  • dude.. i hate you.

that was too good. Also I like the feel you gave it, it sounds more structured than listening to it on word of mouth.

  • Did you choose to sit with the bass in the middle of your lap or were you taught that way?

  • people who hold the bass in their lap usually first played double or upright bass. and because of that they are more comfortable holding electric bass at an angle. or he just found it more comfortable to place it in his lap for this particular piece.

  • yea its way more comfertable and it gives me more range on the fretboard

  • AmAzInG!!!!!

  • well done

  • im learning this song, OMG ITS HARD, u pulled it off perfectly, well done

  • truly awesome.

  • Great job. This has to be one of the most difficult pieces of music to play on the bass. It is not the speed but the musical jumps that are not easy on the bass. Once you get the music under your finger's, it is a rush to play due to the musical progression of the piece.

  • Let me guess. You have a Tattoo on your fingers that says: "SPEEEEED!!!"

  • Very nice playing indeed my friend.

  • how long ya been playing?

  • That was amazing

  • we are sorry

  • i wil be playin this by xmas!!lol

  • hmm play classical guitar dont you?

  • OMG, you have no right to say "Sorry the sound is abit off". That was amazing.

  • how do you get so fast ?

  • practice

  • whats this song called?

  • Chromatic Fantasy!

  • lol i know im just being one of the dicks that doesnt read anything and asks pointless questions

  • monkeymanagogoFAIL!!!!!!

  • heh

  • not improv but damn near hard to tell if you've never heard it before.

    Robert Fripp--The Bridge Between--Chromatic Fantasy

    great job resonantdoghouse!!!

  • Did you just figure this out or did you have a notation for it? If you have it written out I would love to grab a copy of it. Extremely well played well done sir.

  • Very good !

I play this song too. please watch my version and tell me what do you think!

  • Damn, that was some clean bass playing. Excellent job!

  • damn you played this cleaner than jaco.

  • I agree VulgarMongoose

  • Regardless if you made mistakes or not, that was cool as hell.

  • Oh yea my bad I forgot to ask this before, are you using a reissue of Jaco's bass?

  • No.

Jaco's ReIssue has a fretless rosewood neck, and this is a fretted(i think) Maple neck.

  • True, though Jaco's practice bass was with a fretted maple neck.

  • some of your chords were off, especially towards the end with that last one.

it is really more of a major chord.

    otherwise, very very nice job.

  • ... speechless

  • Bach is amazing, and with that, so is Jaco Pastorius, I'm currently working on this piece on my 4-string as part of my final year of high school. The tone you get out of your bass is awesome, unfortunately it will be a while before I get my performance to that speed. Thanks for the video, definitely will be benchmarking my own against it.

  • as a bass player i can tell you that there are hours and hours and hours and hours and hours and hours of practicing that go into this song only for a minute and a half to come out of it.

  • I know it seems unfair really. The scary thing is that it was probably an improvised peice by Bach!

  • Improvised?

    what??

  • that is

    so

    FREAKIN

    COOL!

    haha wow!!!!

  • wow! just wow!

  • full tone ..really nice

  • ear or tab?

  • Anyone who can play this song in its entirety is an amazing bass player.

    Well Done.

  • wow man thats awesome. im trying to learn that song but something tells me it wont be as good as that

  • pretty ill man

  • There's not to improve on here. This performance is a masterpiece!

  • Great great great work!!! How long have you been playin for?

  • Too long to remember, somewhere around 14 years. Thanks to everyone for all the kind comments!

  • Quand j'arriverai à sa, je serai super contente lol! It's wonderful!

  • great job

  • holy fuck!!!! Great work man, your technique and groove is sick!!

  • thanks to u (codyking36) I learn something beautiful today, thank u I love all the jaco's legacy. by the way great piece of art I'm still trying to achive the speed of chromatic fantasy. ejoy u'r life

  • Damn...

  • anyone knows what happened with the bass of pastorius, it was retrive or is still lost?

  • one was found in a pawn shop in NYC. the owner claimed it came from a student of jacos

  • too bad he told his family they could buy it for 30 grand from him.

  • He actually had two basses that he used. One hasn't been found yet, and the other one turned up, the pawn broker told his family that he'd sell it to them for 30 grand.

  • Yo they just found it. Looks different. Check out Bass Player mag. issue for april

  • i love your tone and attacks--sounds just like jaco. great job, i love playing this song

  • Mad skills.

  • what about going right with timmings and playing the correct notes?

  • that was sick!

  • congratulations

  • MISTICO!!!! O__O

  • ı tried to play it bur ı couldnt its fucking hard very fantastic job bravo

  • Great to hear Bach on bass!

  • awesome job!

  • your technique is beautiful...great job

  • you are very good it's one of the most difficult part of bass and you played very well

    congratulation

  • excelent...a very difficult masterpiece

  • has anyone noticed that in his description of this video it says "We Are Sorry".. . and it also says "We Are Sorry" right above him to his left, our right?? hmm. ..

    JC

  • VERY good! I'm learning this myself and it is very impressive that you can play it at that speed. Absolutely fabulous!

Though, if there is one thing I can put my finger on it has to be the last part with the chords. Let each note ring longer, and you didn't remember the very last chord!

Anyways, awsome! You have gained much respect from this humble bassist. :D

  • Great job!! Really tremendously great playing.

  • good shit, smoke rocks

  • Wow that was amazing!

  • If he sped up the video then in the original he must be nodding his head REALLY slowly...eejit...

  • also the notes would be higher you douche...

  • no, I can speed up audio without losing the original pitch.

  • all i can say is watch jaco's version then tell this one is sped up. Jaco played it INSANELY fast. (but as usual never ever lost the musicality.

  • what kind of bass is that

  • Sadowsky, definitely.

  • good stuff man! Bach rules

  • whenever i lose motivation for learning this piece, watching this vid makes me feel as amazed as when i first watched it. i'm up to about 30 seconds on your vid and it's taked months so far, i can totally feel how much time and concentration went into that

  • Good job !!! Bravo

  • looks like a sadowsky bass.

  • Out of couriousity, can you play "Cannibal Corpse - Frantic Disembowelment", or "Flight of the Bumble Bee"?

  • I'll work on it. I never really got into Cannibal Corpse though. I've listened to more Death, and Cynic. I really like Steve DiGiorgio' bass playing in Death and Sadus.

  • you dig it dude !

  • the end is wrong

  • please i want the tab for this. ill paypal a dollar

  • what`s bass kind of bass are you using?

  • nice job!

  • Great sound ! How long have you been playing bass?
