Cats never fail, they just switch gears when things don't go as planned. This cat was never after the bird, he was sneaking up on his resting spot. lol

The cat has Cataplexy, it cause instant fainting due to excitement. I have seen this in dogs and people. They faint if you make a sudden noise.
