Bjork isn't like that but something annoys me about her music in a similar yet completely different way.

You make it sound as if there are other reasons why you think Rage are more important.
And you do know that at the end of the day "fuck you I won't do what you tell me" is going to do nothing for issues personal to people around the world?
"is going to do nothing for issues" ummm do you have a learning disability? and you call RATM fans bogans. How about you go get an education, then come back and post comments. At least the RATM fans are actually educated and can structure a sentence properly. (sorry, i know most Bjork fans can to, that is not a directly aimed at any other people)
"sweet jesus im gonna wanna kill myself after an hour of that crap before rage. if they just give rage an extra hour and sent her back to to her wailing icelandic friends. things will be much better"
Ok and that defines me as a bogan how? her music annoyed me, so im a bogan? does that mean your a bogan because rage annoy you? does that mean that anyone who doesnt like another artist is a bogan?
I never thought that Bjork shouldnt play the BDO. But she should never have played right before rage. And i was at the main stage at that time to see rage. and she didnt set the mood for rage.
Don't worry about it. I'm sure you're not actually a bogan.
But it's rather uppity of you to go to a Bjork video and post rude comments just because she annoyed you. It wasn't Bjork's fault that the festival was organized that way.
ive already explained this, i typed in BDO 2008. this video came up and i decided to listen to it, so i could make a decision for myself. I didnt like what i heard. thats my opinion. your entitled to your opinion. whatever im happy for you if you like bjork. but dont hate me because i like rage.
i dunno man, maybe because RATM actaully have something to say about this world, and their message inspires gives hope to people. Or maybe its because a guitarist like Tom Morello has skills unseen by any other guitarist in the world. I watched the bjork show and the skills ended at a dude pressing buttons on a screen and playing with his Mac Book Pro.
ok so your going to contradict your original message. 'regardless of their methods' well rages method to evoke emotion is by creating upbeat guitar riffs with politically charged lyrics. and you call rage repetitive when bjorks lyrics are 'we are the earth intruders muddy with sticks and branches we are the earth intruders a-haaa we are the earth intruders muddy with twigs and branches marching we are the earth intruders muddy with twigs and branches marching marching'
i cant see a contradiction. . . nor can i see a problem with repetition. look back through history, at hymns and work songs, the beatles, rock and roll infact is a string of repeated hooks. and there isnt a thing wrong with that. thats beside the point. all i know is the music that 'dude playing with his mac book' made makes me feel awsome, and rage against the machine makes me feel nauseus. its my opinion, i didnt enforce it and youve failed to open another point to me. good night
LOL LOL LOL! i dont have a problem with repition either but you must have forgotten what you said because you attacked rage by saying 'the repetitive, over-distorted batter of RATM' but you don't have a problem with repetition? ummm ok, im confused. and when bjork has distorted sounds coming from her speakers is that a problem for you or do you like it? maybe you should think before you say.
Yeah I'm sure "Guerilla Radio" and "Bullets on Parade" give hope to so many people around the world. I bet the majority of the people who listen to Rage Against the Machine only listen to "rock out."
And judging from Bjork's BDO audience most Rage fans are bogans anyways.
"I walk tha corner to tha rubble that used to be a library
Linin' to the mind cemetery now
What we don't know keeps tha contracts alive an movin'
They don't gotta burn tha books they just remove 'em
While arms warehouses fill as quick as tha cells" - is from Bulls On Parade, these lyrics are very powerful to me and to alot of other people. These words inspire me and the type of person i want to be. People also went to see RATM to hear their message. Your comments just prove your ignorance.
I wouldn't call them true fans anyway....just people like yourself who only know about 2 of their hits...(By the way...it's Bulls on Parade.)
And maybe the songs themselves don't don't do anything constructive but the important thing is that they are getting the message out there. They have helped expose some issues that otherwise would not get much light. I can't see a problem with that?
Great. I actually used to listen to Rage back when. I'm not saying they're a bad band, but I'm trying to say that Bjork is making music on a much higher level than Rage are.
And that you're exaggerating Rage's political impact on the world a bit. :P
Some aspects of Bjork's music are no doubt very important just as with RATM's music. I think both artists have their merits. But please explain how Bjork's music is at a higher level.
Yes, you're absolutely right. Both artists have their own merits.
But in Bjorks's case she is making music for the same reasons that someone like Charles Ives or Glenn Gould would make music-and she's a large and successful pop artist.
Bjork is quoted saying that she has a lot of respect for people like Ravel and Debussy because they "bridged the gap between more serious music and more public music, and were very true to themselves and didn't water themselves down to please anyone."
I don't think I'd ever hear Zack de la Rocha say something like that.
I'm reasonably sure RATM doesn't water themselves down. If anything, I would say they have pushed the boundaries about what the accepted modern hard rock sound is. Their hard-rock/rap/political fusion was unprecedented. Tom Morello's innovative guitar work has consistently gained him praise and recognition amongst the guitar community worldwide. Just as the composers you mentioned in your post were credited with popularising and extending on their own genres, e.g. Impressionist.
The same applies to Bjork. She has also fused so many genres to create her own popular and unique sound. Both RATM and Bjorks success is largely due to their abilities to bring something new to the musical table. I commend both of them for this however I'm still confused as to how Bjork is somehow more important on a musical level (or higher.)
A lot of people fuse genres. Beck fuses genres. But I'll reword myself:
Bjork is like a Claude Debussy, Charles Ives, Glenn Gould, Thelonious Monk etc. because not only does she represent a pure, invariable essence of music she does it an incredibley large and profound level. It is amazing and incredibley rare that some one can be like this in the modern music industry and be so successful. It's amazing that an artist like this would be playing BDO for that matter.
I'm reasonably sure that Rage aren't watered down. In fact, I think they're a great rock group. And not only is Tom Morello an innovative guitarist who isn't trying to copy 70's guitar riffs, but the bass player is pretty tight as well. How about that?
But there was more to the Bjork quote than not watering down music.
this argument of personal preference is way more impossible to justify in music than it is in, say, film or literature because its so much more abstract. from a technical point of view, clearly bjork is more original/innovative but that doesnt necessarily mean she's better. it all comes down to taste. from a lyrical point of view, however, ive already said that i think bjork's music is more personal and sincere and therefore, to me, imposes a much more satisfying listening experiance.
the reason i say bjork is more innovative is because she's breaking barriers, changing the way instruments are used, using new techniques and equipment and using accelerated technology to come up with things that have never been done before. i wouldnt say tom morello has achieved any of that, but maybe thats just me. bjork also made an entire album featuring only vocals, and thats quite an ambitious achievement.
@kilroybop You must be thinking of a different tom morello because the one i know Broke many barriers And Changed the way instruments are used by using techniques and equipment to come up with things that had never been done before on a show to show basis........ so how can you say he has not achieved any of this when everything he has ever produced is clear evidence that he has..... gotta give credit where credits due..............
Yes, you are right. But does it all come down to personal preference? For example, if I say that John Coltrane is better Oasis, is that just my opinion?
She was right to cancel in sydney. rage against the machine fans there would have been viscous bogans. The problem is you're trapped in the D with whatever is on. Bjork is great. In melbourne one person threw something at her.
oh your sooo right. go into the pit all day, waiting for rage, then....this is the best part.....leave for bjork.....heres the smart thing of course.....think you can get back into the pit after eating for rage.
i know i like standing 150 meters away from the by far best band on the set cause i wanted a beer. cmon, i was there last year, in the pit for 9 hours. if you werent in the pit by 3, there was no chance of getting in for the rest of the day.
Who gives a shit who was before or after BJORK you guys complaining you didnt like it shouldve pissed off to get a burger and a beer whilst bjork was playing then by the time RAGE was on ur dread locks wouldve grown longer and youre armpitts wouldve stunk more of B.O by the time they hit the stage so when u moshed it wouldve added to your much wanted atmosphere....BJORK rules.
By no means have you hit the nail on the head. It would be impossible to get back into the front area before RATM started playing. therefore you lose your place.
She is just a dreadful act to put on before such a heavy band. Not to mention her terrible voice. Sounds like she even lip synced that song.
Seeing Bjork then rage would be awesome. Thats what i like about bdo. Such diversity. Bjork played back to back with soundgarden last time she played a bdo and that was awesome too. I don't remember her being booed by soundgarden fans. I was there for soundgarden but she blew me away. I'm seeing both their side shows and Syd bdo this week. I hope Syd rage fans will not be so narrow minded.
but i saw some rage fans just yelling to bjork to shut.....but you know difference people like difference music.I enjoy Bjork so much but after i was also mosh while rage playing and watch Carl cox in the end.
hope the show in Australia will going well , it's a shame to see the fans doing like that in both 2 nice countries..!!
a backpacker from Hong Kong who had been oz and nz.
am so glad i get to see her doing a show in the Sydney Opera House forecourt this week, without having to deal with RATM-only fans ruining the atmosphere. the type of RATM fans who felt the need to search for Bjork vids on Youtube just to insult her... open your minds, people, there's a lot of great music out there, and Bjork is breathtaking & loved by many.
i love Bjork and RATM - what with them and LCD Soundsystem and Arcade Fire, this week is gonna be heaven. thank-you BDO!!
for your information i didnt search her videos down i typed in 'Big Day Out 2008' and there she was. i thought i might try her out and listen to what she has to offer. and i didnt like it, was just stating that. And your damn right there is alot of good music out there. But cmon, its absolutly stupid to put an artist like Bjork right before Rage at the BDO. They could have at least put a band with similar styles to Rage.
Bjork is one of the most talented and eclectic artists to ever preform at BDO it was such a shame that the majority of people who went this year were there for RATM and only like music that fits into a certian genre. Rage was amazing - Bjork was better.
I cant beleive that you are generalising RATM fans to only liking a certain genre! Ill admit Bjork isnt for me. But i love a massive variety of music. But to RATM ARE the headline act, and the organisers should have put on an act similar to RATM to get the crowd warmed up. You don't see Bjork as the support act for RATM's sideshows. Its Anti-Flag which is a band of similar styles. If i was going to see Bjork i wouldnt expect Anti-Flag to be the support. Its common sense
What would be the point of having the same kind of bands preform at BDO? the whole point of the event is to showcase heaps of different kinds of music. I think you just reinstated the fact that the majority of RATM fans DO only like one kind of music.
It's just that the two genres are completely different. There were many other bands that they should have had in that spot, however they all played earlier in the day.
that comment just shows how ignorant you actually are. You are always generalising RATM fans. you have no idea what different styles of music i like, or any other RATM fans like. you have no idea what my personality is like and you have no idea what kind of a personality the person next to me listening to RATM has. and i am interested to know wat that 'one kind of music' is? is it cat empire? or John Butler? or Buddy Guy? or The Beatles? because i love all of those artists.
perhaps you dont like bjork, its okay. but for some people her music is extremly good. I'm a Bjork fan, but I don't like RATM, its not my style. But I respect them, so have respect to Bjork. She has her own way. Thats all. Greetings
Hey I already said I don't want to argue. I respect her too, it's just that I find her music irritating. To put her on stage right before RATM was a poor decision.
Agreed...Billy bragg was something special at the BDO also. Its a shame Rage fans booed her, but better than throwing a bottle like they did at Neil Finn at Coachella. I wonder if Zach De la Rocha, with his awesome intelligence and progressive global outlook gets pissed off that most of his fans are jock meatheads who dont understand his ideals
True I saw their show tonight which was great, but it was easy to see how much the rage fans missed his ideals from the amount of people wearing rage t shirts that were queuing up for their McDonalds after the show.

sweet jesus im gonna wanna kill myself after an hour of that crap before rage. if they just give rage an extra hour and sent her back to to her wailing icelandic friends. things will be much better
God damn I wish I was there, Bjork is one of the most talented musicians ever! She should definatley come back for her own gig. That would rock. Go Bjork! And cheers for putting this video up!
i thought she played well, the sound was crap from the stand though. maybe she would have been better in the boiler room, not straight before RATM, dumb move organisers, also clashing arcade fire with battles - are you crazy?
Bjork was amazing!! Although the atmosphere was really bizzare, most of the people around me just seemed awe struck, like they couldn't believe they were actually watching bjork live! the rest were probably waiting for rage though. The end was amazing though! We got a freakin' encore for chrissakes! and Declare Indepence was insanely good!!!
That's upsetting then, she's a really innovative artist that you have to pay attention to in order to truly appreciate. Her show was conceptually, visually and musically amazing.
I loved that outfit, it made all kinds of funnys for me :D but i couldnt get into the pit cus of all the rage fans lolz, Bjork was the shit :D rage was overated :( i only liked the last song they played
actually bjork isn't gay she has a husband and you know what, I'm pretty sure the guys of RATM really would be depressed to know that their alot of their fans are a whole bunch of close minded beer drinking testosterone filled jockheads
I am really sorry for you guys that many of you don't understand her music.

Good Night :)

Yeah I'm sure "Guerilla Radio" and "Bullets on Parade" give hope to so many people around the world. I bet the majority of the people who listen to Rage Against the Machine only listen to "rock out."
And judging from Bjork's BDO audience most Rage fans are bogans anyways.
homegirrl 4 years ago
"I walk tha corner to tha rubble that used to be a library
Linin' to the mind cemetery now
What we don't know keeps tha contracts alive an movin'
They don't gotta burn tha books they just remove 'em
While arms warehouses fill as quick as tha cells" - is from Bulls On Parade, these lyrics are very powerful to me and to alot of other people. These words inspire me and the type of person i want to be. People also went to see RATM to hear their message. Your comments just prove your ignorance.
juicyburton 4 years ago
I wouldn't call them true fans anyway....just people like yourself who only know about 2 of their hits...(By the way...it's Bulls on Parade.)
And maybe the songs themselves don't don't do anything constructive but the important thing is that they are getting the message out there. They have helped expose some issues that otherwise would not get much light. I can't see a problem with that?
djjiles 4 years ago
What the hell? Bulls on Parade? I'm sorry.
Great. I actually used to listen to Rage back when. I'm not saying they're a bad band, but I'm trying to say that Bjork is making music on a much higher level than Rage are.
And that you're exaggerating Rage's political impact on the world a bit. :P
homegirrl 4 years ago
Some aspects of Bjork's music are no doubt very important just as with RATM's music. I think both artists have their merits. But please explain how Bjork's music is at a higher level.
djjiles 4 years ago
Yes, you're absolutely right. Both artists have their own merits.
But in Bjorks's case she is making music for the same reasons that someone like Charles Ives or Glenn Gould would make music-and she's a large and successful pop artist.
Very rare in the modern music industry.
homegirrl 4 years ago
Bjork is quoted saying that she has a lot of respect for people like Ravel and Debussy because they "bridged the gap between more serious music and more public music, and were very true to themselves and didn't water themselves down to please anyone."
I don't think I'd ever hear Zack de la Rocha say something like that.
homegirrl 4 years ago
I'm reasonably sure RATM doesn't water themselves down. If anything, I would say they have pushed the boundaries about what the accepted modern hard rock sound is. Their hard-rock/rap/political fusion was unprecedented. Tom Morello's innovative guitar work has consistently gained him praise and recognition amongst the guitar community worldwide. Just as the composers you mentioned in your post were credited with popularising and extending on their own genres, e.g. Impressionist.
djjiles 4 years ago
The same applies to Bjork. She has also fused so many genres to create her own popular and unique sound. Both RATM and Bjorks success is largely due to their abilities to bring something new to the musical table. I commend both of them for this however I'm still confused as to how Bjork is somehow more important on a musical level (or higher.)
djjiles 4 years ago
A lot of people fuse genres. Beck fuses genres. But I'll reword myself:
Bjork is like a Claude Debussy, Charles Ives, Glenn Gould, Thelonious Monk etc. because not only does she represent a pure, invariable essence of music she does it an incredibley large and profound level. It is amazing and incredibley rare that some one can be like this in the modern music industry and be so successful. It's amazing that an artist like this would be playing BDO for that matter.
homegirrl 4 years ago
I'm reasonably sure that Rage aren't watered down. In fact, I think they're a great rock group. And not only is Tom Morello an innovative guitarist who isn't trying to copy 70's guitar riffs, but the bass player is pretty tight as well. How about that?
But there was more to the Bjork quote than not watering down music.
homegirrl 4 years ago
this argument of personal preference is way more impossible to justify in music than it is in, say, film or literature because its so much more abstract. from a technical point of view, clearly bjork is more original/innovative but that doesnt necessarily mean she's better. it all comes down to taste. from a lyrical point of view, however, ive already said that i think bjork's music is more personal and sincere and therefore, to me, imposes a much more satisfying listening experiance.
kilroybop 3 years ago
Clearly bjork is more innovative???? I disagree sorry. Just look at Tom Morello.
djjiles 3 years ago
the reason i say bjork is more innovative is because she's breaking barriers, changing the way instruments are used, using new techniques and equipment and using accelerated technology to come up with things that have never been done before. i wouldnt say tom morello has achieved any of that, but maybe thats just me. bjork also made an entire album featuring only vocals, and thats quite an ambitious achievement.
kilroybop 3 years ago 2
@kilroybop You must be thinking of a different tom morello because the one i know Broke many barriers And Changed the way instruments are used by using techniques and equipment to come up with things that had never been done before on a show to show basis........ so how can you say he has not achieved any of this when everything he has ever produced is clear evidence that he has..... gotta give credit where credits due..............
xclant 1 year ago
Yes, you are right. But does it all come down to personal preference? For example, if I say that John Coltrane is better Oasis, is that just my opinion?

She was right to cancel in sydney. rage against the machine fans there would have been viscous bogans. The problem is you're trapped in the D with whatever is on. Bjork is great. In melbourne one person threw something at her.

I would have poked him in the eye if I saw someone throw something at Bjork.

this is why the rage fans were so impaitent. god know, i was so impaitent for muse, sitting through jet
muvvy3136 4 years ago
oh your sooo right. go into the pit all day, waiting for rage, then....this is the best part.....leave for bjork.....heres the smart thing of course.....think you can get back into the pit after eating for rage.
i know i like standing 150 meters away from the by far best band on the set cause i wanted a beer. cmon, i was there last year, in the pit for 9 hours. if you werent in the pit by 3, there was no chance of getting in for the rest of the day.
muvvy3136 4 years ago
I was pretty close to where you were standing. She was fantastic

Who gives a shit who was before or after BJORK you guys complaining you didnt like it shouldve pissed off to get a burger and a beer whilst bjork was playing then by the time RAGE was on ur dread locks wouldve grown longer and youre armpitts wouldve stunk more of B.O by the time they hit the stage so when u moshed it wouldve added to your much wanted atmosphere....BJORK rules.

you hit the nail on the head bro. cheers
davywavy133 4 years ago

I hope Syd rage fans will not be so narrow minded.

am so glad i get to see her doing a show in the Sydney Opera House forecourt this week, without having to deal with RATM-only fans ruining the atmosphere. the type of RATM fans who felt the need to search for Bjork vids on Youtube just to insult her... open your minds, people, there's a lot of great music out there, and Bjork is breathtaking & loved by many.
i love Bjork and RATM - what with them and LCD Soundsystem and Arcade Fire, this week is gonna be heaven. thank-you BDO!!
enterspacecapsule 4 years ago 10
for your information i didnt search her videos down i typed in 'Big Day Out 2008' and there she was. i thought i might try her out and listen to what she has to offer. and i didnt like it, was just stating that. And your damn right there is alot of good music out there. But cmon, its absolutly stupid to put an artist like Bjork right before Rage at the BDO. They could have at least put a band with similar styles to Rage.
juicyburton 4 years ago
True, not saying i hate Bjork but just imagine the Rage fans dissing her ...
LouieAlsaidi 4 years ago
Bjork is one of the most talented and eclectic artists to ever preform at BDO it was such a shame that the majority of people who went this year were there for RATM and only like music that fits into a certian genre. Rage was amazing - Bjork was better.
akselectah 4 years ago 7
I cant beleive that you are generalising RATM fans to only liking a certain genre! Ill admit Bjork isnt for me. But i love a massive variety of music. But to RATM ARE the headline act, and the organisers should have put on an act similar to RATM to get the crowd warmed up. You don't see Bjork as the support act for RATM's sideshows. Its Anti-Flag which is a band of similar styles. If i was going to see Bjork i wouldnt expect Anti-Flag to be the support. Its common sense
juicyburton 4 years ago 2
What would be the point of having the same kind of bands preform at BDO? the whole point of the event is to showcase heaps of different kinds of music. I think you just reinstated the fact that the majority of RATM fans DO only like one kind of music.
salmonfishking6 4 years ago
I'm hardly saying that...
It's just that the two genres are completely different. There were many other bands that they should have had in that spot, however they all played earlier in the day.
djjiles 4 years ago
that comment just shows how ignorant you actually are. You are always generalising RATM fans. you have no idea what different styles of music i like, or any other RATM fans like. you have no idea what my personality is like and you have no idea what kind of a personality the person next to me listening to RATM has. and i am interested to know wat that 'one kind of music' is? is it cat empire? or John Butler? or Buddy Guy? or The Beatles? because i love all of those artists.
juicyburton 4 years ago
geez no need to get so defensive. I
salmonfishking6 4 years ago
geez, no need to post comments when you have no idea what your actually talking about
juicyburton 4 years ago
perhaps you dont like bjork, its okay. but for some people her music is extremly good. I'm a Bjork fan, but I don't like RATM, its not my style. But I respect them, so have respect to Bjork. She has her own way. Thats all. Greetings
RuedigaSocke 3 years ago 2
Hey I already said I don't want to argue. I respect her too, it's just that I find her music irritating. To put her on stage right before RATM was a poor decision.
djjiles 3 years ago
ok, sorry, i don't ant to argue, too
RuedigaSocke 3 years ago
Agreed...Billy bragg was something special at the BDO also. Its a shame Rage fans booed her, but better than throwing a bottle like they did at Neil Finn at Coachella. I wonder if Zach De la Rocha, with his awesome intelligence and progressive global outlook gets pissed off that most of his fans are jock meatheads who dont understand his ideals
jjcrossbatdrive 4 years ago 2
True I saw their show tonight which was great, but it was easy to see how much the rage fans missed his ideals from the amount of people wearing rage t shirts that were queuing up for their McDonalds after the show.
