No wonder this version of "Joker's Wild" didn't sell to a network.
The later version---without celebrity panelists---was better-paced and more entertaining.
However, Allen Ludden did his usual fine job as emcee.
I suspect Ludden hosted the show because co-executive produced Jack Barry (who hosted a number of game shows in the 1950's) was still considered "persona non grata" by the networks thanks to his involvement in the original "Twenty-One".
Wow. And people said the rules to the 1975 version of Password were confusing. I can only imagine that Jack Barry wanted to have a celebrity oriented game show, but this doesn't work -- there's no 'flow' to the game. And I agree that Mr. Ludden just seems to be playing traffic cop. Thankfully, Jack Barry didn't give up on this game. And he DID have a winning celebrity game with Break The Bank.
The game seems like a good game but it's a bit confusing. The celebraties seem to be a bit board while asking this questions; the read them as if they are reading a shopping list, Pat in particular is doing that. Having your choice of how many questions is an innovative idea however, it's just being executed badly. I see a few flaws but I can't figure out what they are; I wish Allen gets to do more talking here since his talents are wasted. Carol and Craig are doing a good job.
Note that here, you win when you spin 3 jokers then answer a question. In the early weeks of the CBS version, you win by just spinning 3 jokers. Then then went back to the original after a couple weeks.

This may be the first game show pilot to use eggcrate lighted numbers. The second game show was ABC's "Password".

The 2nd version of "The Face Is Familiar" used an Eggcrate display as a clock in the bonus round.

I get the rules already! Pretty ironic, huh?

The only rule that made SENSE, was the rule in which you won the game on a Three Joker spin (like that in the CBS and Syndie years with Jack).

I don't understand what Allen just said. She has to answer two questions? I am sorry that this didn't sell but I understand why.

Boy, this is a big step down if Allen isn't even asking the questions. He's just playing traffic cop.
