Just 40 years ago, black and white couples in the US couldn't even marry. Crazy isn't it? Interracial marriage was finally legalized in 1967. The video is far from ridiculous. @jdovgy The video is clearly highlighting that same-sex marriage has fallen under the same prejudices and misunderstandings which surrounded past marriage bans. Gay couples are currently facing the same hurdles interracial and mixed-faith couples did in the past.

This message is so true, and love isnt about sexual nature either, love is blind and many forms. Love for your children, love of your friends, family, your mate, animals, etc. It is possible to truly love your spouse and not want to have sex with them because love has nothing to do with physical attraction, its how you truly feel for them. I love the video, because it brings up the points that many people are ignoring. Interracial marriage was illegal at one point in time and was considered "unnatural". But after reading some of the more agressive comments marked as "spam" I would just like to put this out there for anyone who says homosexuality is "unsafe" or "unnatural". Fruit flies, lions, elephants, dolphins, chickens, almost every primate ever, bears, bison, they all have same gendered sex. Those are only a few examples.

So deny gays the right to marry because they can't have children....What about sterile or barren couples, or people who cant naturally have kids. Or two Adults who just never had children, (Could not afford it, or decided not to) No one seems to be pressing issues on those types of couples.

Well, the governmental rights, benefits, and privileges that go along with marriage is helpful. There are over 1000 of them. Plus, being legally a family is great--in hospitals, they have visiting hours for family only, so if you aren't married to your partner and your partner is hurt or sick, they won't let you in.
Furthermore, I fail to see how YOUR views hold together our society. I cant seem to understand how allowing homosexuals the human right to marrage would cause any negative impact on our country at all. Marriage never had anything to do with the Bible. The video shows various "traditions" of how marriage should be. What this video is pointing out is the absurdity of those traditions and maybe it's time to create a new and BETTER tradition for marriage. That would be, people marrying each other because they WANT to, not because of what others tell them to do.
The problem is you can't "create a new and better tradition" because Marriage isn't something that is just made up by ppl or gov't, it's a word that describes natural occuring institution that is the foundation of all civilizations past and present. This is the only type of relationship that serves this purpose as a group and by nature, so therefore, it is proper to distigush it from any and all other types of relationships. Other types of relationships should seek other ways to be ligitimized.
So which Biblical form of marriage should we use? Polygymous Marriage (the most common in the Bible), Levirate Marriage (widow has to marry bro-in-law or other male relative), man with woman as his property, man with one or more wives plus some concumbines (Lamech, Abraham, Jacob, David, Solomon, and more), soldier and female prisoner of war, a male rapist and his victim, male slave to a female slave without her consent, and monogamous, heterosexual marriage?
Read carefully, I'm NOT arguing to follow any Biblical form of Marriage. I'm saying you DON'T need the Bible to deal with this issue at all. It's not a Biblical thing, It's a common sense thing. There are many different cultures throughout human existance that didn't have the Bible to recognize the specific type of relationship we call Marriage. It is not a "common sense" thing at all. Many heterosexuals have permanent, loving marriages without the intent (or sometimes ability) to have kids. Many cultures have accepted same-sex permanent relationships. Many cultures have had taboos against it, too. Does that make it wrong? I cited the Biblical examples only to show that even within that one work, which has an impact on three of the world's major religions, there was variety in marriage beyond what most people know about.
For a more proper analysis of certain passages in the Holy Scriptures, this method should always be employed : Contextual Interpretation. In the Old Testament, the law condemned rape and has prescribed the capital punishment against the perpetrator (Deuteronomy 22:25-27), female slaves that later became their master's wife were also protected by the law (Exodus 21:8-11,Deuteronomy 21:13-14), and God has never endorsed the practice of polygamy, but his toleration has demonstrated his patience.
Also, if marriage is a mere invention of man, then by nature , the definition of marriage could be interpreted to accommodate any perception of the institution and its relationship with morality. Rape, polygamy, beastiality (and so forth) should no longer be seen as immoral, but normal, since these things could be considered as some of the ways in which you could express your affection or passion.
However, that would preclude the notion that there are transcendent basis for morality (e.g. Imago Dei- the concept that man was created in the image of God, thus having an intrinsic value that distinguishes him from other creatures).
Just because some marriages don't have kids doesn't nullify marriages because your talking a very small fraction of marriages compared to those that do have kids, and often more the 1. The family unit is the basic building block to civilization. Marriage is the only institution that can and does naturally provide the next gen. Arguing that is counterintuitive. Therefore, marriage has, is & should be kept wholy distinct from EVERY other type of relationship. SSM should have civil unions.

Your assuming this is a strictly legal issue, and it's not. It's about what a Marriage actually IS... not what people 'feel' like it should be, or how gov't defines it. The institution of Marriage was established prior to gov't, and therefore cannot be defined by gov't. Gov't merely recognized this institution because of it's vital role in building a stable society. SSM (as well as other relationships) simply can't serve the same function, by nature. So Marriage should properly be set apart.

I should have said redefined by the gov't. When Marriage became a legal institution, it was understood what constituted a Marriage... which has always been one man and one woman. It's only now that this definition is under attack and so should be clarified what it ment then, and now.

Families are defined by 2 kinds of links: legal ties between people who marry, and genetic ties from that union
Marriage is a contract that regulates those ties, what a dad owes his babymama and a mom owes her babydaddy. It protects all 3 parties: man, woman, and child
What gays want is for one parent to enjoy his or her parenthood "experience", while the other parent just goes away & the child is expected to affirm the wrong-sex stepparent's fantasies instead of being allowed a real mom
Your exactly right, this is an often overlooked part of this discussion. It's been well attested by sociological studies that children who are raised by their biological mother and father generally fair better in almost every aspect of life. It's because there are biological advantages that the mother and father bring to children. SSM denies children the biological needs of having their biological mom & dad, which will cause problems for them in the future. This has been shown to be true.

Of course, like practically everything in the Bible, there are mixed messages galore. You'll have "these people are different, so don't marry them, it's an abomination" followed by "and if you defeat these people go ahead and marry their women." Yeah.

I love the video, because it brings up the points that many people are ignoring. Interracial marriage was illegal at one point in time and was considered "unnatural". But after reading some of the more agressive comments marked as "spam" I would just like to put this out there for anyone who says homosexuality is "unsafe" or "unnatural". Well, the governmental rights, benefits, and privileges that go along with marriage is helpful. There are over 1000 of them. Plus, being legally a family is great--in hospitals, they have visiting hours for family only, so if you aren't married to your partner and your partner is hurt or sick, they won't let you in.

If homosexuals want a state-recognized marriage, a secular state should let them. If a religious institution doesn't want to grant a religious marriage, that's their right as well. The two ought not to interfere with each other.
One thing though---the more "traditional" view, as in the one more based in the Old Testament, is that divorce is perfectly acceptable.

The sole purpose of laws like prop 8 are not to protect marriage(whose marriage needs government protection?)but to exclude gays from equal access to all the rights and liberties afforded to every other citizen.

Tolerance moral? It is necessary in a free society. My tolerance of immoral activity does not make it moral, but it allows us as a group to coexist peacefully.

alright, well you can keep on being tolerable of the immoral activities that gays do, and gays will keep on doing them, i guess its a nice system you have going.
i like how you seem to get steamed over things that i didnt say, and that your mind had formulated itself. i never said canada was perfect, but i think since we have laws that give gays the right to marriage, it really gives a sense of actual acceptence, instead of forced tolerance.

The word is "tolerant", gays are only an indicator of the immorality of a society, and yes, if our system worked the way it was designed to, it would be a nice system.
One of the issues I must tolerate is the incredible lack of knowledge the youth of today are not getting during their "education". Please stay in school and study history until you see the patterns.

This is clever, but completely misleading and disingenious. The whole arguement has NOTHING to do with the Bible. You don't need the Bible to know that the institution of Marriage is different BY NATURE and should be kept distinctly seperate from ALL other types of relationships (not only homosexual ones) for natural & common sense reasons. This whole strawman arguement just further fogs up nonthinking peoples understanding of what this issue is really about, which is dishonest.

Marriage never had anything to do with the Bible. The video shows various "traditions" of how marriage should be. What this video is pointing out is the absurdity of those traditions and maybe it's time to create a new and BETTER tradition for marriage. That would be, people marrying each other because they WANT to, not because of what others tell them to do.

The problem is you can't "create a new and better tradition" because Marriage isn't something that is just made up by ppl or gov't, it's a word that describes natural occuring institution that is the foundation of all civilizations past and present. This is the only type of relationship that serves this purpose as a group and by nature, so therefore, it is proper to distigush it from any and all other types of relationships. Other types of relationships should seek other ways to be ligitimized.

Polygymous Marriage (the most common in the Bible), Levirate Marriage (widow has to marry bro-in-law or other male relative), man with woman as his property, man with one or more wives plus some concumbines (Lamech, Abraham, Jacob, David, Solomon, and more), soldier and female prisoner of war, a male rapist and his victim, male slave to a female slave without her consent, and monogamous, heterosexual marriage?

Read carefully, I'm NOT arguing to follow any Biblical form of Marriage. I'm saying you DON'T need the Bible to deal with this issue at all. It's not a Biblical thing, It's a common sense thing. There are many different cultures throughout human existance that didn't have the Bible to recognize the specific type of relationship we call Marriage. Matter of fact, makeing SSM = Traditional Marriage also means equaiting ALL those other things you mentioned to the same level, which MAKES NO SENSE!

It is not a "common sense" thing at all. Many heterosexuals have permanent, loving marriages without the intent (or sometimes ability) to have kids. Many cultures have accepted same-sex permanent relationships. Many cultures have had taboos against it, too. Does that make it wrong? I cited the Biblical examples only to show that even within that one work, which has an impact on three of the world's major religions, there was variety in marriage beyond what most people know about.

For a more proper analysis of certain passages in the Holy Scriptures, this method should always be employed : Contextual Interpretation. In the Old Testament, the law condemned rape and has prescribed the capital punishment against the perpetrator (Deuteronomy 22:25-27), female slaves that later became their master's wife were also protected by the law (Exodus 21:8-11,Deuteronomy 21:13-14), and God has never endorsed the practice of polygamy, but his toleration has demonstrated his patience.

Also, if marriage is a mere invention of man, then by nature , the definition of marriage could be interpreted to accommodate any perception of the institution and its relationship with morality. Rape, polygamy, beastiality (and so forth) should no longer be seen as immoral, but normal, since these things could be considered as some of the ways in which you could express your affection or passion.

Just because some marriages don't have kids doesn't nullify marriages because your talking a very small fraction of marriages compared to those that do have kids, and often more the 1. The family unit is the basic building block to civilization. Marriage is the only institution that can and does naturally provide the next gen. Arguing that is counterintuitive. Therefore, marriage has, is & should be kept wholy distinct from EVERY other type of relationship. SSM should have civil unions.

So Fine, we adapt your little filtering process...So.. that would effect how many of the total amount of marriages? Ummm... A VERY SMALL PERCENTAGE. So it still wouldn't make a difference as far as the building blocks to the whole society.

Listen, it doesn't matter what kind of 'movement' is happening. The FACT is, without families.. society dies. The FACT is Marriages are what make families (generally speaking, as a group & by nature). Therefore, tallying all the exceptions to the rule does you little good, because the fact is marriages are still the building blocks to society. Think about it, Did you come from a family? What about your parents? What about their parents? That's all I'm saying. No families=No Society.

Your assuming this is a strictly legal issue, and it's not. It's about what a Marriage actually IS... not what people 'feel' like it should be, or how gov't defines it. The institution of Marriage was established prior to gov't, and therefore cannot be defined by gov't. Gov't merely recognized this institution because of it's vital role in building a stable society. SSM (as well as other relationships) simply can't serve the same function, by nature. So Marriage should properly be set apart.

I should have said redefined by the gov't. When Marriage became a legal institution, it was understood what constituted a Marriage... which has always been one man and one woman. It's only now that this definition is under attack and so should be clarified what it ment then, and now.
Your last point doesn't make sense to me, how does protecting marriage 'restrict rights' of individuals?

Families that happen within a gay relationship are manufactured that way, it doesn't/can't happen naturally...obviously.
The overwelming majority of families are built from the premise of marriage, this is a fact.
So this isn't just 'my idea' of family. I'm just stating the fact that marriages by in large are what makes families, which makes societies.

Families are defined by 2 kinds of links: legal ties between people who marry, and genetic ties from that union
Marriage is a contract that regulates those ties, what a dad owes his babymama and a mom owes her babydaddy. It protects all 3 parties: man, woman, and child
What gays want is for one parent to enjoy his or her parenthood "experience", while the other parent just goes away & the child is expected to affirm the wrong-sex stepparent's fantasies instead of being allowed a real mom

Your exactly right, this is an often overlooked part of this discussion. It's been well attested by sociological studies that children who are raised by their biological mother and father generally fair better in almost every aspect of life. It's because there are biological advantages that the mother and father bring to children. SSM denies children the biological needs of having their biological mom & dad, which will cause problems for them in the future. This has been shown to be true.
