You can compare all day and all night But really they are only influences that shape the outcome whether years or decades later.
It forms the basis for music that is created in whatever time.
Unless you never listen to anything and create out of the blue -which I don't think happens-There will always be influences. Comparisons are merely acknowledgement of influences .
You cannot compare to say " so and so is better than so and so".
Not that I am the type to criticize Steve--my favorite guitarist--of simple imitation--but since you mention Crimson-esque. If kind of made me hear the Floyd-esque part at the beginning.
I'm guessing not you. Now, ask me if I care that you care. The point was I wasn't saying it to call Steve on copying anything, but to reflect on the Floyd-sounding part of it. Which kinda' goes against the "Crimsonesque" characterization.
Wow this sounds really new - although the latter half gets a little King Crimsonesque, overall, this introduces a new tonality for Steve. Really great. Can't wait to hear the studio version with Anthony Phillips joining on guitar. Heh - cool tapping at the end :)
Is that guy on Steve's left playing a Chapman Stick?

I can´t see that. I know that camel sounds like steve hackett, almost as if they´re copying him or the other way round.
