Vilas should by rights have been awarded the No.1 ranking for 1977 . He won two of the four Grand Slam singles tournaments and 16 of the 31 Association of Tennis Professionals tournaments he entered. His playing record for 1977 was 145 wins against 15 losses (ATP win-loss record was 13015), with Vilas winning 72 of his last 73 ATP matches that year.
Perhaps it makes you appreciate just how hard it is to beat guys like nadal and Federer when they make it look slow since they are so even against each other.
agregai, tahnk you so much for this marvelous tape. At the time of this Foreswt Hills final my brother and my cousin from Argentina, both tennis players, were among the lucky ones who were able to be there.
You've made my day with such cherished memories. I am from Argentina and I live in California.
Vilas was fine! People talk about Nadal but Vilas is built like a mack truck....these men played together, stroked together, showered together and rubbed their pulsating muscles together! Enquiring minds want to know!
Connors lost bad....HA!!

vilas had a pretty good serve considering that probably they couldnt get a lot of speed from that rackets
ppanteon 3 years ago
Wow they were hitting the ball with some pretty decent pace, even for that time!
SunshineBuddha 3 years ago
For the rackets they used, yes, they have good pace on the ball.

Today they use NO racquts, but clubbers,
Imagine leaded gloves allowed in boxing.
A sham that these so called "racqutes" r not banned...
