He has no relationships, a girlfriend etc. He has to keep his life a secret from everyone. And he travels a lot...a hit man will watch you for days before killing you.
they want to see where you go and what you do..so then they can plan the perfect hit.
This is one of those "sacrifices" he had to make for his chosen profession. The first time I saw this, by the end of the scene I was thinking "What the fuck!?!?".
No other movie star except Charles Baby could have wanted the role, much less played it. This particular scene was considered too weird, strange and whacky by all the McQueen/Brando/ Eastwood/Mitchum types. Perhaps Lee Marvin or Charles Coburn could've tried pulling it off, but only Bronson was THE star born to act and do it successfully in one of the most underrated action thriller films of the 70's. I hear they're doing a remake. What a colossal mistake. If it works, why try fixing it?
@fabinharaujo Actually, he said try and think of something like it for next time (the letter she "wrote to him".). I just hope for his sake that he did see her before his trip to Italy :-).
There will be a screening of "The Mechanic" in LA CA @ The Silent Movie Theater (611 N Fairfax Ave. LA Ca 90036) on 3-21-08 @ 10:30 pm. Admission is $10.00 C U There...
This is a fantastic film. The psychology of Bronson's character is stunning, but I'm sure most people miss that--as an action film alone it's good enough.

I agree very overlooked movie. I first saw this as a kid and it's one of my favorites. CB is one of my favorite all time actors.

@dalmain77 True that I was young when I saw this glued to the t.v. I remember this gal slit her wrists and is lying on the bed.
