Beryl is a Compositing engine and assistant window manager for X11, which is the usual GUI control system for Linux. Basically, Beryl is a 'prettiness shim' for Linux.
I use Ubuntu with Beryl. Not too hard to set up (just a matter of installing the right drivers), and it works beautifully. And I don't need a supercomputer to run it - It runs smoothly on 512 MB of RAM, even while running multiple multimedia progs and a web browser.

For me, I say Linux/Ubuntu still aren't user-friendly enough. As relates to this, I really don't want to figure out how I'd install this (let alone KDE). And I'm really freaking sick of the terminal.
What I'm using it for now is a school essay. XP won't do crap in 10 seconds on the computer I'm using- but Linux is mindblowingly fast (or atleast not TOTAL SHIT!)

no se si los haya pero en cuanto a procesador, yo lo he hecho funcionar en PC's con pentium III a 800MHz; al menos 256 de RAM y una tarjeta de video "decente". el rendimiento se limita a las capacidades de la tarjeta gráfica y los drivers. una Nvidia mx4000 es mas que suficiente; incluso funciona con las intel mas limitadas (8xx).
se ve muy bien!!pero cuales son los requisitos de hardware para poder instalar beryl sabiendo que los de win vista son RIDÍCULAMENTE altos!!,tengo entendido que son muchisimo menos que los de vista pero cuales son exactamente!?

yes, there aren't much games, but actually there are some. Doom 3, Scorched3D, MUGEN, Frozen Bubble, etc. (don't espect halo for linux :P )

You can play most Windows games on Linux with this program called Wine look it up, it allows you to run windows programs including games.

Ubuntu: Download, burn, boot, click 'install'.
Beryl: Add/Remove Software->Check 'Beryl', click 'Apply'

installing kde:
Applications - Add-remove - kubuntu-desktop
done, now you can choose kde in the login window (bottom left)
@Fordi: it isn't quite that easy yet, but in Feisty it's: System - Preferences - DesktopEffects
In Suse Linux 10.1 and 10.2 it's:
gnome-system-manager - desktop effects.
(both compiz, but installing beryl isn't much harder)
