The reason why sales of 3D is going down is because the films they put it on either suck or dont need 3D to begin with. Furthermore post production 3D is bad and they know it, they just dont want to admit it. You dont make a black and white film and add color to it later and call it a film so stop doing the same thing with 3D and IMAX.

I want to go watch "Super 8"! I love JJ Abrams, and I love that he came out with an original film this year. No franchise, no sequels!

Why is it that lately Dreamworks hasn't been promoting their films well? Last year they didn't promote "How to Train Your Dragon" very well and it only got big because of good word of mouth. Are they hoping the same will happen with "Kung Fu Panda 2"?

I heard that "Green Lantern" wasn't very good. =(

Many surprises here, least of all that Kung Fu Panda 2 is so behind on on the figures. The first one was great and I've read great reviews about it, but 3D does suck and nothing Dreamworks say will change that. Also surprised Green Lantern is predicted for such a high opening, I'd be very surprised if it made over $30million on opening. It just doesn't seem to have a wide demographic and some of the reviews I've seen are, for want of a better word, questionable...

to be honest i didnt see alot of advertising for xmen first class. the trailers i saw where on youtube.. i saw a few trailers after the movie came out. and not many posters either, thats why it didnt make as much! and sometimes advertising is a big part! last year. SCott pilgrim vs the world came out and IT WAS AWESOME! but the box office money was weak! :(

Kung Fu Panda 2 is the strangest box office performance of the year. This movie has all the makings of a mega blockbuster, it's the sequel to a hugely popular film, it's a great movie...and even word of mouth is good. But the opening ($48 million) is SOFT. I don't get it...any explanations?

I hope 3D can go and die soon, after I saw Thor and Pirates of the Carribean in 3D, I don't feel like going for 3D anytime soon (unless it's highly recommended), I didn't miss any effects in X-Men: First Class just because i watched it in 2D atleast.

Grace, it's a shame that Super 8 didn't do better at the box office, but in my opinion it really surprised me. I thoroughly enjoyed it more than X-Men First Class.

What gets me is that some critics are comparing it to Speilberg's films from the 80's (namely E.T. and Close Encounters of the Third Kind) who happened to be the executive producer, and it does pay homage to those early-80's films.

Hangover II was a good movie.

Also i stopped seeing 3d all together.

If they force me to see a good movie by only having 3d showings. Then i will not see it.

In this episode and last week's, I've talked about how I think X-Men First Class is underperforming and that I feel ALL this summer's comic book movies have been weak at the box office so far. Super 8 did well,but I think was still a bit soft....

X-men First Class,it made less than THOR......and is just a million or two UNDER the First X-men..which came out in 2000.....in reality(cause X-MEN was released 11yrs ago) it is going poor compared to either of the 4 x-mens..IMO

IDk why panda2 did so bad..maybe cause of the 3D?....still a solid sequel in terms of quality.

thor is going well,IMO.

I just hope the 3D thing doesn't hurt HP7p2's opening,or captian americas for that matter!

Grace, IMHO you (or your writer) are/is the top expert on bix office numbers. You really put the digits in perspective, but I would like to see the percentage of production/advertising they achieved. A low-budget movie might actually beat some of the more expensive films this way, and give you a little more material.

Therefore I couldn't consistently report it - I only did with Super 8 because it was confirmed by several independent sources.

Green Lantern is really receiving a lot of bad reviews. I don't know if it's going to make the expected gross. Or, perhaps, as moviegoers did with Last Airbender, they're going pay money just to see a cinematic trainwreck. Or perhaps even to "prove those critics wrong," only to emerge and say the same thing most critics are saying.
