Hi there is there two different functions for the light like on/off bing one andn/ dim or side lamp i cant remember brcause usually there are only one function but in your other video of a 153 the lights changed somehow so i was wandering if all 153 can do that ill sub if u comment thanks
@reviewerashley it's basically white lights as it comes towards you and red as it goes away. There's no switch anywhere to alter this - it's fixed. The lights are realistic and do reflect how they operate in real life.
I searched 153 on Hornby's website and the East Midlands 153 didn't come up, does this mean its been discontinued? If it has that's a real shame 'cause I really wanted one.
hey, i've just got 1 of these, was very impressive, tested it as i bought the dc version, but i recommend fitting a dcc chip to it amazing how smooth it runs and pulls away so effortlessly and gently :)
grrr shame on you parents! i want this so badly but i dont hav enough money! so i asked to get it out of my bank but no... parents wouldnt let me grrrrr!
Thanks for providing free reviews of new model trains. They are very useful for deciding whether to buy one or not, especially as you film them close up.
@AtleeDeltic - free? FREE? They're not supposed to be free? You're supposed to pay me £5 for every one you watch!? lol - just joking. I wish tho hey?! haha No, I do it purely and simply because I enjoy it and I like to help other people out. If you ever have any requests or suggestions feel free to get in touch.
i love the class 153 it like one or my favorite trains but i always try to avoid getting a sprinter when your on the main line some times you have like a 150/153 or something from penzance to tauten witch it really silly but i love it when you going threw a small country line . the looe line in Cornwall is my favorite line iv been on it fantastic
In this you said: "I can't wait to get her running on the proper layout, going past trees and bridges and buildings and it would be just like the real thing!" what proper layout?
@BenTrainFan - you mean how much was it? As it might be more or less now seeing as I did look at over a year ago. I think I paid £55 or something around there.
are you going to get a class 156 because i have one in northen rail livery and she is superb she happens to be a rare settle-calsile one. these units actuly operate in my area which is widnes in cheshire.
I've just recently bought one of these for £41 in North West Trains blue with Northern Rail branding livery. Runs very smoothly and front and rear lights are brilliant on DC- so bright.
Picked up a northern rail one as found that to be in my view a great looking livery and cheap as managed to get it for £47, but got take it back as the tail lights in one direction don't work. So im gutted bout that as they are absolutely lovely DMU's like you mentioned
@InterCity82 yeah they are, well got it back from my local model shop turned out to be dirty connectors on the lighting part so happy now got it back up and running lol
@VirginTrainsRules - it's supposed to protect and insulate the DCC chip from the rest of the locomotive - but they can cause the microchips to overheat and so I don't use them. Famously. :)
I might try and buy the cheapest one of these e.g. £45 and put a vinyl sticker in First Great Western livery on it but I am 50/50 on doing it. What do you think of that idea?
i dont think that hornby packaging is safe because when i got my midland star starter set some of the couplings fell off the trucks while unpacking it!! anyway im getting a class 153 london midland :)
I just bought a Class 153 in Wessex Trains livery. However I had no chance to try it out yet, as it waits to be DCC-ed. It's my first Hornby train (impossible to get these here, in Poland) and I must say it looks perfect.
@InterCity82 I've looked and The liveries they do are Regional Railways, London Midland, Wessex Railways Black, Arriva Trains Wales, Northern, North West Trains Blue with Gold Star and East Midlands Train the one on this video
@gtacrusher123 - well think about it. It's cheaper to run a single unit than a double unit for a start. On many lines there just aren't enough passengers to warrant having a 2-car DMU and so the single car DMU was invented. It was actually invented by the GWR many decades ago, and has been revised numerous times since. But single car DMUs are propular all over the world, as they're cheap to run, easy to maintain and can carry just enough passengers on a particular non-busy route. :)
@gtacrusher123 - it's 153s (no apostrophe needed as it's just plural) ;) but they cost about £55. Some people can get them for £50 or even less but then some shops have them at £60 or above. So shop around! But I definitely recommend them! :)
Will, After HAZZASIB saying that peco track is better. is Peco track or Hornby track better? I obviously want my locos running on the best track when I get my layout started. so, Peco or Hornby :)
@HornbyExpress - to be honest I've found very little difference in performance between Hornby track and Peco track. I would say abut 60% of my track is Peco and 40% is Hornby (as most of that has come from the train sets). But Peco track is made in the UK so that's one good reason to buy it. :)
@InterCity82 okay, well there is a little model railway shop down the motorway but... isnt it just great that I live in Australia, so I have to pay alot more :L
@GeeksvilleStudios - what do you mean 'for a Hornby'? Hornby often get slated for lack of detail but that's only because they do lower end models too - no other manufacturer does. Bachmann, Heljan and ViTrains all, only bring out high end, high detail models. Hornby don't. They bring out a wide range of models, from high end detail right down to budget end no detail. But you're right, the class 153 is definitely one of their best at the moment (as of Feb 2011) and everyone should have one!
I have this one. I bought it at The Festival of British Railway Modelling at Doncaster Racecourse at the weekend. Bargain price too - only paid £40!!! Brand new, boxed as per the video clip.
@London667568 - a DMU such as this IS a carriage. But one with an engine slung underneath it. They're designed to run around perfectly happy on their own - but can be coupled to other similar units when required.
