I think the only Idol winners that were actually the best suited to win in their year, were Kelly Clarkson and Carrie Underwood. Every other year, the person who won was outclassed by the others in the top 3. Ruben won when Clay should've, Taylor Hicks won over Katherine McPhee... And Melinda Doolittle had a better voice than Jordan, but Jordan was younger and "cuter" so she got the votes. It's a popularity contest, not a voice contest

i so agree with you! After Melinda lost to Jordan, I stopped watching AI. There is NO WAY that anyone can say Jordan has Melinda's range or huskiness and soul. Jordan's voice is bland and "whiny"... it doesn't have depth like Melinda's. America voted for Jordan because the voters are teenyboppers who liked Jordan's youth and trendy look and disliked Melinda's old school glamour. Plain and simple.
I'll defer from saying anything bad about Jordan because it's not her fault she won. She's a talented girl for sure. Melinda, in my opinion, is the best Idol has ever had, and this is not to knock others because there have been MANY brilliant talents on the show. Mine is simply one opinion of a woman I believe is just that good. i so agree with you! After Melinda lost to Jordan, I stopped watching AI. There is NO WAY that anyone can say Jordan has Melinda's range or huskiness and soul. Jordan's voice is bland and "whiny"... it doesn't have depth like Melinda's. America voted for Jordan because the voters are teenyboppers who liked Jordan's youth and trendy look and disliked Melinda's old school glamour. Plain and simple.

I'll defer from saying anything bad about Jordan because it's not her fault she won. She's a talented girl for sure. Melinda, in my opinion, is the best Idol has ever had, and this is not to knock others because there have been MANY brilliant talents on the show. Mine is simply one opinion of a woman I believe is just that good. The best news for her and others is that Idol is just a threshold to a door that gets opened for those who are truly talented, so it only starts here for those worthy.

@ShawDAMAN I know... that show isn't good anymore. They are lousy at picking TRUE talent. And this is not because I don't think Sparks is talented and has a nice voice, but how can anyone say that Jordin's voice was more developed and full than Melinda's? It wasnt. Melinda had a husky soulful voice and I guess it didn't appeal to the young voters who prefer younger girly voices. Those are the voices I don't like at all. Gimme a husky soulful voice anytime! Go Melinda!

@ShawDAMAN OMG!!! I did too! I was outraged! That whole season, I kept telling my family that Melinda was going to win. When she lost, my heart was crushed and I was done altogether with American Idol! The voters don't know what true talent is!!!

@cjs33139 I used to agree with your comment on Jordan's range compared to Melinda, as much as i love Melinda, i recently heard a song from Jordan and i was shocked at how well she progressed. She really is a great singer. But i still agree that Melinda was definately the winner that year. I tried to watch it again this yera but when Crystal lost to Lee Dewyze i relaized it was no longer a singing competition but a Popularity contest.

@cjs33139 me too. it's just ridiculous. i watched season 5 mostly because elliot yamin was from our hometown, but i felt he was cheated when he didn't at least make finals. he's so much better than taylor hicks. and how about chris daughtry? he came in 4th and he's amazing! and this season made me mad...why the heck did blake make the finals and she didn't?? after that season i stopped watching it.

@nerdface92 No doubt what you siad was true, but I have to say she failed to have that tone to her voice which the judges talk about when they say "You know whos singing the song whenver you sing it" meaning like they already have a defined voice people know. This is when they know they will be successful. Also I never remember her changing up a song ever. And "Woman" was her most exciting performance. That song was made way too long ago for her to have a solid fanbase buying her albums.

This season 2010 is really boring, i thought it'l be gonna be a good season but they evicted those great singers with more potential on winning this season.......... melinda big fan here!!!!

@Clobalize Are you kidding? Melinda is no where near as good as Kelly Clarkson, Jordain Sparks, Lakisha Jones, Adam Lambert, Allison Irraheta, MANDISA?! Why do people think of Melinda as an idol god. She isnt! Just cuz she has no self confidence DOESNT mean shes incredible. She was a GOOD contestant. She has gone virtually no where after idol and isnt THAT good.

@MyCommentsMatter1 a lot of the reason all of those singers were popular is because they were YOUNG and of course kelly clarkson was popular because she was the first winner. the thing with being popular is that a lot of times it's just lucky to get a number 1 hit.
i don't remember simon, paula, or randy saying anything BAD about melissa throughout the whole season, and that's why people are so amazed by her. she was almost never criticized, unlike a lot of the other people

i think that Melinda is better than Jordin, but i honestly believe that Jordin was always going to win no matter what (unfortunally). still, Melinda should be in the finals for sure, and not Blake

You do not get many amazing singers like Melinda on Idol her voice blows you away. It was very disapointing she got voted off- her talent is one in a million she should have won hands down.

I so admire Melinda and thought she should have won that year. I'm afraid that since she doesn't look like a Bionce' or a Shakira....that the opportunites for exposure may be limited for her in the music biz. None the less....I believe she is one talented lady with an outstanding vocal ability and a very sweet personality. You go Melinda!!!!
