  • This is great! I love how you can see how similar the live actions of real masters of martial arts and the animations in Avatar are. It’s amazing to see how kung fu masters and martial artists use their bodies to disable opponents. In Films of Fury, the filmmakers did an incredible job giving background into the culture as well as flooding me with kung fu film knowledge. It is one movie I won’t be forgetting anytime soon, bitly .com/qOQ9US.

  • 0:20 had to replay that 5 times before my craving for awesome was satisfied.

  • Does anyone know the name of the move they use at 0:20?

  • from what I know they should've totally get Jet to play the Firelord instead, but being that it's shyamalan, he porbably didn't even know who Jet is

  • man..is amazing how the avatar guy doing bagua is bad, worst that i v seam

  • @peterwing Do you practice Ba Gua yourself?

  • I know something about the Ba Gua style and i've watched the movie "One" and I never realized that Jet Li was performing Ba Gua... Interesting! :)

  • if anyone is interested have a look at my videos,

My Shifu (Mr Xiang zhneg of Beijing) master Mr Liu Jing Ru performing basic excercises and movements of bagua. And my Shifu disciple performing bagua and Xing yi.

I teach Cheng style Ba Gua in Devon Uk! and love all martial arts!

  • My faverout parts in The One are when Gabe is using Ba Gua.

  • My faverout parts in The One is when Gabe is using Ba Gua. Oh and dose anyone know were i can watch Avatar - Creating the Legend online?

  • My faverout parts in The One is when Gabe is using Ba Gua

  • i love that in avatar, they really are acurate with their movements. as this vid clearly shows....very nicely edited btw!!! :D i get excited when i know a movement that katara does...lol.

  • 0:45 is the funniest part. HAHAHA

  • now if only somebody could bend....

  • Great video editing and the flicks you are showing really pushing what Sifu Kisu said in the clip further. Damn why did they bring a Karate or Tae kwon do kid to do Aang's role.

  • These should have been the moves in the movie... this abso-freaking-lutely looks like airbending

  • @a00510511ca92 I totally agree. I havnt seen the movie and im not shure i will but judging from what ive herd they should have made it into three movies - one for each book instead of craming it all into one movie. But Ive been totally won over by Naruto and Naruto Shippuden. Its just so much more intence then Avitar and the charicters have much more depth to them

  • Lol I love it

Aang Moves his arm around in a cirlce like this

-Jet Li Flails his arms in random Direction-

  • dude the movie the last airbender had no connection to Ba Gua or the marital arts from the show

  • the one was a pretty good movie

  • the last airbender as u know is based upon the cartoon series so its basically the same but more serious! personaly i think the cartoon/original is better! :D

  • That guy who sort of looks like Obama, I remember this mini clip when they describe the styles of the four nations, that guy's name is Sifu Kisu or something like that eh?

  • I feel left out... I'm a Tae Kwon Do and Capoeira user... I've got very powerful legs. though.

  • very nice indeed! :)

  • I do a lot of airbending after eating beans.

  • @Tedsta101 shut up.

  • GREAT VIDEO!!!!!!!!!

  • awesome vid

  • you wanna learn really air bending??

  • Looks better in the anime kinda but its so ossum

  • baguazhang rocks!!

  • It's the twist, between all the joints that creates the power.

  • Aang would be nicer if the kid were asian U_U

  • @OmarAlcazar oh please not that again...i like Noah Ringer.i couldn't take Aang seriously if i could barely see his horizontal eyes.

  • @OmarAlcazar

    Er...what?

  • Haha, reminds me of Aang's fight with the bully in The Headband. |Db

  • I would really want to learn martial arts, especially BaGua, anyone know some tips?

  • @Kayleighdh

Best to do is try a few around your area. I've tried about half a dozen styles. I have now settled on Eskrima, Filipino martial arts. It may take some time before you find one that suits your personality and body type.

  • @mad8london247 thank you so much for this! I'll try out all the martial arts I can find and then settle down...

  • that is realy cool, but what about water, earth and fire bending ?

  • @MultiCrazymonkey Water bending is Tai Chi, Earth bending is Hung Gar and Fire bending is Nothern Shaolin Kung Fu...

  • This was a great idea! Jet Li's form is a great example. Congratulations!

You should link the original video though!

  • This is so amazing!

  • retarded...

  • Jet Li is so cool!!! Too bad he his recent movies are really making him underrated.

  • @ xxdookersxx dude if ur a martail artist thats cool

im a bo staff fighter and i know tons of mooves

maybee u can teach me ur form of training and me urs

  • i really wish this movie wasnt coming out. so many idiots are going to learn bagua now and start killing people on accident. you cant use this in a real fight its far to powerful. i REALLY have to watch my temper now, it sucks.

  • If one is learning Ba Kua for only fighting than one has missed 99 % of what the art is.......Ponder what is this "air" that we are talking about bending, or could it be something more !!!!

  • Comment removed

  • Jajaja, Jet Li is the Avatar... (plus: is so hot).

  • sorry. no. jet li is not in the last airbender

  • I do not understand what you say.

I know that Jet Li is not in the official movie "The Last Airbender" I only say that their techniques would be the perfect avatar in the real world.

  • similar elements with tai chi

  • This is awsome i never knew half of this stuff and im a martial artist. maybe its cause i am Hsing i fighter not ba gua

  • I'm learning xingyiquan too. Isn't it awesome?

  • @Daibhidh646

that's the style the evil jet li used in the same movie.

  • @capnfantasmo Hsing I

  • @AODRHINO

Hsing I is the Wade-Giles romanization of the mandarin 形意拳

the pinyin romanization is Xíng yì quán or Xing yì.

  • @Daibhidh646 The other role Jet Li plays in The One, he is doing xingyiquan. I am certified in Emei Bagua and Xingyiquan. I like how both styles compliment each other... While Bagua moves in circles, keeping your opponents on the outside, and in Hsing Yi, your going straight thru your opponents like a tank.

  • @TheLostArtOfWar1 lol although I prefur BaGua. I love your reference to Hsing Yi as moving though your oponents like a tank :D

  • @raysetiger285 I am a practitioner of both styles, and they both compliment each other.

  • @TheLostArtOfWar1 correct me if im wrong but is it just me or is xingyiquan allmost the same as wing chun?

  • @raysetiger285 If you mean same as punching and kicking then yes. But if you are referring to it on a deeper level, both styles are different. Hsing Yi is an internal martial art, along with Emei Bagua and Tai Chi.

  • @TheLostArtOfWar1 I was also refuring to the movements as well and the simultanious attack and deffence

  • @TheLostArtOfWar1 Bagua has straight-like entry techniques, but the power is then applied circularly, moving your opponent through multiple planes, making his ability to recover his balance/reorient for controlled landing more difficult. Anyone who shows you bagua SOLELY by circling around you like some deranged planet doesn't know bagua: they just dance.

  • I my self am a Pakua(aka Bagua ) fighter, Its quite true, our goal is to fight you at a circle, your at a disadvantage that way. Though that doesn't mean if you confine us to a tight corner we won't know how to fight as every one that trains in Ba Gua usually knows liner kung-fu too. We as Ba Gua practitioners learn many forms of combat and not just one ;).

  • @xxdookersxx I've been studying ba gua for 10 years. Barely scratched the surface. We learned some Hsing I at a Fall retreat. It's an awesome art also

  • @xxdookersxx

I read that traditionally the ones who learnt Bagua would also learn HsingYi.

Bagua being circular and Hsingyi created by spear fighters, being linear, complements each other.

  • @xxdookersxx

This is a good one to watch...lol

The One: Baguazhang Vs. Xingyiquan Training Scene

  • @xxdookersxx xingyi is earth bending

  • @sinistavoicez No, earthbending was Hung Kuen. It's pretty obvious

  • @sinistavoicez what is water and fire?

  • @JKT6 not all monks are like wot you know...

    anyway...I don't mind people's perceptions...

and I don't know wot it means...

wot does perceptions mean??? O,O LOL

  • Jet Li was using Ba Gau in The One? Wow I never knew that!

  • Awesome O_o!!!

    I wish I could air/water/fire/earth bend ;p

  • LOL if only air atcually came out of it lol

  • u r a fan of Li Lian Jie(Jet Li) and Avatar. wow nice~ me too~ I like Martial Arts. except Capoeira~ Capoeira people for me is bad. they r so showy.I hate them.

  • HATER!

  • @xiaoli26 A true martial artist should have respect for all

whats wrong with people having fun (capoeira)

(i do capoeira, mma and wing chun, and yes i admit capoeira is not very useful in a fight but its a very joyful experince to partake in)

  • The main thing is that you yourself know that you have a style that fits and works for you.

......Damn we are far off topic.... lets see.. oh right, Jet Li

As Jet Li may have been a Wushu champion he still trained traditional Shaolin Kung Fu when younger as well as other traditional styles. If you ask me, i'd say he is one hell of a good fighter.

Rrutgerson, over and out. Greetings from SeaTrident too... bry sig, aja, haistakaa paskaa hei!

  • Looks like we have had very different experiences, Rrutgerson, hence our very different ways of looking at the same thing. We won't be able to convince each other of anything here, but I'm glad we've had a civil enough discussion.

But, yes, we're off topic. Jet Li? Great athlete with cool moves. :)

  • The same comments apply to you too, SeaTrident. We tried, but looks like we won't be able to see eye to eye on this.

One thing we can agree on though: Jet Li is a kickass athlete.

  • yeah, we tryed, thats good enough, we shared our views about the issue.

    Greetings from scandinavia!

    Go in peace

  • Fair enough :)

  • Bottom line is: What works for you may not work for others, but that does not mean they can't be as good of a fighter you are.

Though i agree with you that the wushu exhibitions and the sanda overshadows the traditional arts (practitioner of Northern Shaolin myself), but the wushu practitioners does not have to be

bad fighters 'cause of that. People may look down on your style and not worhip it as the best, but seriosly, who gives a shit?

  • This is essence of Kung Fu and is what makes it living. Shi Dejian seems to train mostly on forms and hand to hand techniques because he has chosen to do so from the start and it fits him the best. The sanda and wushu exhibition fighters does the same they do what fits them, acheiving their own real Kung Fu. Same goes for the guys in clip "The Shaolin Way of Kung Fu". Love that stuff.

  • Therefore one must choose his own

path in the way of martial arts and find what techniques will fit him the best as a person. Being like Bruce Lee with lightning kicks and punches or someone with a steel body being able to take ten punches to the face without flinching. Therefore there are not one real part of Kung Fu, there is only what is right for the indivudual. You learn the techniques from your art and from there on you develop your own personal style that fits you.

  • as

able a fighter, since akrobatics gives you other atributes needed in a fight. And you,ll be able

to do some crazy ass shit, but that's besides the point.

Ultimately it all comes down to the individuals themselves. Because of the ridiculously vast

amounts of different techniques used for increasing ones fighting ability out there you won't

even be able to dream of learning them all in one lifetime.

  • ...brace yourselves, it is going to be long...

Sure, maybe we were defending akrobatics a little too much, but only because what i've said

this far is true. Of course someone who concentrates on acrobatics and does not or seldom

train fighting techniques wont be as good in a fight as one who only trains fighting techniques

and forms. But someone who balances the two out and trains properly would be able to become....

  • .... But this could not be further from the thruth besause the Shaolin martial art incorporates everything that builds up the greatest fighter: a hard and solid body, flexibilty, acrobatics, weapon usage, fighting skills and a mounstruous amount of different techiques. Watch a documentary about them and you will understand, hopefully. Probably not if you are a brainashed karate fanboy though...

  • nice, very nice. I keep meaning to check out that movie...

    Ba Gua <3 :((

  • That movie of Jet Li is The One right?

  • HOLY CRAP!!!!! this video made me love avatar even more lol

  • I would cast Jet Li as Jeong Jeong. Him and Jackie Chan as Bumi, with Sammo Hung as Iroh. Just imagine these guys OWNING at the battle of Ba Sing Se. It would be kickass.

  • HELL YES

  • That would be freaking awesome ....

  • OMG I WAS THINKING THE SAME THING

  • @paracletelux at least than, there would be some asians in the movie

  • @paracletelux hahahhaa thats exactly what i was thinking for iroh!!!! man, the cast director got it wrong!!!

  • From wich movie is that?

  • Jet Li = The One.

  • it's Jet Li's The One

  • This is a very nice vid.. thx for posting it... air is ba gua

    water is tai chi

    earth is hun gar

    and

    fire is nothern shaolin..

  • Yeah Nothern Shaolin Kung fu,my fav xD

  • Great video.

Pity the Actor they picked for Aang is into Tae Kwon Do.

Who the heck made that decision??

THey could have found someone who, at the least, knew Shaolin.

  • yeah, most of the casting for the last failbender leaves a LOT to be desired... : /

  • @mad8london247

Actually the kid they picked is IN a Tae Kwon Do club. He's a black belt in karate....apparently karate looks just like all kung fu to M Night Dumbass

  • @mad8london247 The kid actually learned Ba Gua for the film

  • @kvsyaoran727

From the film, it cried mediocrity. The best scenes are apparently in the trailers.

    won't watch the garbage.

Hope you enjoy being conned out of your money.

  • @mad8london247 [cough] download torrent [chough]

  • @mad8london247 You can always download the torrent and watch for free if the film is garbage, no need to waste the money... I sometimes watch a very good film later on in the cinema as well, so everyone wins. :) Just bad films loose money, but if not enough effort is put into it why SHOULD we pay?

  • @nabapoisu

I saw some of the outtakes. Great to see with the tune of macarena.

    Not interested enough..lol

  • yeah their good using taichi for waterbending

  • That was awesome

it was kool to see 2 ppl doin it

    5*s

  • actually only one of the people in the video was using bagua in that fight.

or i guess only one jet li(considering he's playing two roles in that movie) the other him is using a different style of wushu

  • The bad Jet Li. is using Xhingyiquan. Created by Spear Fighters originally.

Bagua is circular, whilst Xhingyi is linear.

Quiet ironic, since traditionally when you learn Bagua, you also learn Xhingyi.

  • Explains well the connection between the two even more. :P

  • The creator of the avatar is really smart to choose ba gua zhang for air bending. Nice vid =)

  • they got a martial arts expert in to choose the martial arts for each natian, i think earth bending is tai chi and toph incorporates praying mantis style into her fighting

  • earthbending is hung gar but toph uses praying mantis. waterbending is tai chi

  • earth bending also uses several styles of shaolin INCLUDING the praying mantis... one of the shaolin animals.... and everyone always forget that firebending is shaolin also, just a different region

  • AirBending=BaguaZhang, WaterBending=TaiJiQuan, EarthBending=HungGaQuan, Toph is very special and Only she uses Southern Praying Mantis (JookLum/ChowGar/Hakka) as the basis of her earthbending form, this explained as being a blind master differentiated her style from the norm. HungGar is Southern Shaolin, Related to but discernable from the Northern Shaolin of Firebending. Northern Praying mantis styles are Very different from southern and not directly related, with exception of rare mixed Styles

  • ....okay? xD

  • Aw neat!

  • we do arnis in the philippines...

  • I was wondering when I saw Avatar and thought I've seen this before in a movie I've seen and then I see this and oh yeah, Jet Li knows Ba Gua

  • he also knows the other styles in avatar, those are the basic styles, he went to school to learn all that

  • vanessawang702 Wushu is just a generic term for "martial arts". Jet Li is well versed in many styles of wushu including Bagua. In the one he is actually using Bagua as one of his styles.

  • Wasn't the creator of Bagua Zhang an eunuch?

  • so COOL!!

  • what movie is this? (jet li)

  • The One

  • i do ba gua and iv'e seen this movie, and beleive me its real

  • -.-; no duh its real, like every other martial art movies out there. jet lis a martial artist, he wouldnt make a movie with jus random punches, it wouldnt be a good movie

  • This is Ba Gua. I can tell.

  • if i'm not mistaken, wushu simply refers to martial arts. not one style in particular.

  • Jet Li has the ability to learn many styles. His original style is modern wushu. But he also knows N.Shaolin KF, all Tai Ji styles, mantis, drunken, ba gua, etc etc. basically, all chinese styles.

    Nice vid btw.

  • as a boy he was lucky to go to school 4 that. back then some schools were strict about it, so theres alot more ppl out there that went to school with him, jus didnt want to get famous

  • this movie's name is- The one - it's great

  • jet lee is fucking sick man.

i hope i get to train with him.

also someone please tell me that this is a movie that's coming out soon.

  • read description....

AANG N JET LI FOR LIFE!

  • yeah i have to agree with sweetazn208 cause jet li does look a bit more like zuko, and i think #1 he would fit that role much better and #2 that he would look wicked with a scar like zuko's

  • Jet Li is the ultimate Airbender, not only does he use Bagua in this scene but his evil counterpart is using hsing yi the other style that was the base for airbending.

  • hey i love that movie! saw it last week! =D

and avatar rocks too!! great ending!

  • Meh, i dont' see a lot of similarities between Jet Li's fighting scenes and the style of Ba Gua to be honest. He spins a couple of times but as it's stated "constantly moving in a circle". Jet Li just sort of..traces a circle if you know where i'm coming from.

  • circle walking idiot

  • Walking idiot circle

  • I hope you're gonna do more Jet Li/Avatar clips.

  • Wicked editing, man! Jet Li's wicked! I think he should be in the Avatar movie that N. Night Shylaman's making. He fits that genre perfectly

  • WOW!! He is amazing. Anyone else think he should play adult Aang????

Or at least be in the movie??

    eh, I'm a dork...

  • As an Airbending monk sure, as Aang no, Jet Li wouldn't play a role like Aang. It doesn't fit his holywood image.

  • Yeah, I kinda knew that was impossible...

But someone of his talent would make an excellent Airbending Monk or another character in the story....

  • i think if there was a avatar movie he would play aang's teacher ...

  • lol actually i c more of a zuko! but ang wud be kool too cuz he doesn't look bad balled haha

  • cool.

  • suiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii(beautiful)

  • awesome!!

  • Where does this guy live?

  • Wow, Jet Li rocks! ^.^

  • the commentator reminds me of obama

  • Excelent ^^

  • good shit

  • I'm glad someone else realizes Jet li is the Avatar. He's done Bagua, Tai Chi (Twin Warriors or Tai Chi Master), he's done lots of northern kung fu styles in most of his films, and I'm sure he's done something like hung gar or 7 star praying mantis.

  • its amazing he learns the styles so fastly

    for movie use..

he such a kung fu genius

  • He doesn't learn styles fast. he learns the aesthetics and forms of the styles fast. All kung fu share the same core fundamentals and basics, that is why his wushu training allows him to emulate them.

  • More correctly, he does everything as if it were a wushu routine. From his form in The One and Tai Chi Master, I would hazard that he has absolutely zero Xingyi, Bagua, and Taiji.

A Toyota Corolla engine encased in a Formula one shell is not a real F1 racer. But people who don't know cars probably wouldn't be able to tell the difference.

This is not to say Jet Li's not a highly talented individual though. He'd likely do very well in real martial arts if he actually practised them.

  • You're an idiot, go read about Jet Li's history. "very well in real martial arts if he actually practised them" He devoted his life to martial arts you ignorant punk.

  • I know very well who he is. No need to get uppity, old chap. You and I just have different definitions of "martial arts".

  • you're just ignorant, young boy. You should show more respect.

  • *shrug*

Well, whatever floats your boat. Don't let me get in the way of your hero-worship.

  • what exactly do you define as "real martial arts."? Jet Li was a wushu champion as a child and has spent his life dedicated to martial arts. The fact you're saying what he's doing is fake is ignorant. So asnwer my question.

  • Wow, this really bothers you, doesn't it? Well, I'll do my best to answer you, but I guarantee you will not like my answer.

Wushu is a performance (dance) form created by the Chinese government in the 50's. While it is superficially like the traditional fighting styles it has drawn from, Wushu dancers do not practise the conditioning and antagonistic exercises needed for their skills to work in combat.

  • Furthermore, Wushu has more and more deviated from its source arts and nowadays violates many basic principles of stance and movement. Training in Wushu might actually make you a worse fighter than not training in anything.

On the other hand, Wushu people - especially highly talented ones like Jet Li - are superbly conditioned acrobats. The stuff they do I won't even dare to try. It's possible that their athleticism would make up for their lack of combat skills in a pinch.

  • It's possible that Jet Li has been doing real martial arts all this while and I am just ignorant. However, if he has been a pure Wushu guy all his life, then he's a great acrobat but no fighter. Or at least he would be a much better fighter if he had spent his time doing conditioning and sparring instead.

I personally think he's an awesome athlete and I love his shows. That does not mean, however, that I must mistake his Wushu for real pugilistic skill.

  • nice going, i enjoyed this argument, although it seemed pretty one sided lol
